I showed up to my appointment with Dean and was told he was sick that day. I took it in stride, but left both my number and the email addresses Id received my confirmation through and said that I was kind of disappointed to have not heard anything until Id walked in the door. "Boy," I said to the walk-in guy. "I know this isnt on you or anything, but thats a frustrating bummer to have set aside the time and to just get left hanging. Could you ask Dean to get ahold of me when he gets in?" The not-Dean guy was bizarrely defensive at my very basic, low-key request: "I dont know what you want ME to do about it!" It was so weird and out the blue that I couldnt tell if he was kidding. Um... huh? I... just want you to pass along the info, please and thanks, have a nice day. Nothing for a couple days. Stopped back in, Dean says that, "Hey, people get sick, and I have a life, yknow" — no basic, normal acknowledgment of the dropped appointment, or of my asking him to be in touch when he got back in. I cant say Ive ever seen this before, even with the most successful of businesses, and I guess Ill have to keep looking for a regular place.

As a long time patron of Schmittys Sports Barbers, I was reluctant to try The Barber Mug. My regular barber at Schmittys had taken ill. Since Im the type that likes structure, a change like this took a bit of self convincing. Now theres nothing bad I could say about Schmittys, theyre a bunch of nice guys that cut hair well. But (everybody has a big but)... Man, was I worried about nothing. Kerry stepped right up to the plate and has always given me exactly what I ask for every time I venture into The Mug (except once). They always greets me by name which I find quite refreshing, mainly because I only recall telling them my name once. For the last 3 years it was "the usual", a #3 on the sides and in back with a hippie like #5 on top... Lately Ive been trying to grow out the top, having the sides and back still at my notorious #3 and blended into the ragtop. Theres been the occasion when Kerry is not in and Troy (I think), the owner steps right in not missing a beat. These guys rock! Youre missing out if you dont try them.

My fiance Steven and I just moved here in September and we are still getting use to the neighborhood of West 7th. He has gotten his haircut done before for military elsewhere abd I thought they didnt do so well as what i saw you guys do to him. They did an amazing job for him. He looked really handsome and they gave him a clean shaven. They communicated with him like he was a friend or a brother and I really liked that. I also liked how they were respectful to me and made sure I was comfortable since Im more quiet than my fiance. I enjoyed being there for sure, with great prices, great barbers, and a great atmosphere. You guys are his go to for his hair and I love it. Great job guys !

Let me preface this by saying: They do not typically cut ladies hair there but my boyfriend gets his cuts there (which are always on point) so he does mine as well now because I have short hair. Jeremy is the best. He is thorough and efficient while being personable. Hot lather neck shaves to clean up...cant beat it. Simple, no frills, they dont try to push "product" and other services down your throat. I cant say enough good things about this shop.

The only place to get a barber cut in Saint Paul. Great atmosphere with a strong neighborhood connection. Walk ins are welcome, Josh will get to ya, Dean takes cuts by appointment. Straight Razor to clean up the back of your neck with some hot lather. Thats the haircut a man deserves!

In 15 years of living in the Twin Cities, its been a challenge for me to find someone who will cut my hair the way I want it... The entire crew here, do just that! If youre in the area, give them a try. Highly recommended!
