The Summary: Rick put me off multiple times, didn’t communicate delays, is unreliable, and for a job I expected to start within a few weeks, is now 5 months out and I have not heard from him at all in the past 2 months. If you want reliability and integrity, look elsewhere. Detailed story: In August of 2015, I emailed Rick, inquiring about a job fixing our porches. Rick responded quickly about coming to do an estimate. He met me at the house within a day and said he could take care of the porches for around $5,000, and that he’d get me an estimate soon. He said he was about two weeks out and that he’d send over something in writing within a few days. He was kind and reassuring and I was excited to work with him because of his attitude and price. We shook hands and he thanked me for the business. He also said that he would have an electrician call me about some other work I had mentioned that needed to get done. That night he emailed me to tell me he left a message with his electrician and to expect to hear from him. He seemed to be a proactive communicator, and I thought I had won the lottery, finding a local guy for a good price. Two weeks went by; three weeks; after the fourth week with no written quote, email, or call, I emailed him: 9/17: “Rick, Whats the calendar for these porches? Its now been a month since you came over. Im going to need some idea of timing and an outline of the job if youre still interested.” He responded quickly: “Yes still interested. About a week.” Well one week went by, two weeks, three weeks. I was giving him time and the benefit of the doubt until the fourth week and on 10/16 I emailed him and expressed my discontent with the way he does business and told him that we were all set with his services. He replied right away (he’s good at replying to emails), apologizing, saying he was overbooked and that in 26 years in the business he’s learned he can’t make everyone happy. We had a back and forth that ended with him asking if I had anyone else booked yet. He said he wanted to come out and do the job. I talked it over with my wife and we agreed to give him a chance. He came out and met me on 10/20 and with my wife on 10/27 to solidify plans. Again, he was reassuring and confident and explained he was a couple weeks out with a job that had stopped paying him and he could start soon. He gave me a start date of 11/4. On 11/3 I checked in with him to make sure he was on schedule, and he replied “Need the week where Im at but Tuesday (11/10) I should be there.” The following weekend, like a broken record, I asked him if he was still on for Tuesday and he replied that he was farther behind than he expected to be. He did not give me a new date. This was the last time we communicated. No email, no call, zero communication since. Oh and the electrician never called either. It is now January 13th, 2016. 5 months after I expected him to start. Although he always responded to my check-ins and inquiries, he always put me off a few more weeks and never once called me to tell me he was further out. He never met any of his start times. I have since heard similar stories of dissatisfaction from other customers, but I will not share hearsay here, only my story. Rick unfortunately gets thrown into the never-to-use Rolodex of contractors who overbook and are unreliable. I know nothing of his actual work. But if you are looking for reliability, timeliness, and integrity, I would look elsewhere.

Rick is very talented. He is one of the few contractors who can take a burned down house and resurrect it or renovate a home that seems beyond repair. Ive seen homes that were destroyed by fire rebuilt by Rick to being better than they were new. Rick recently renovated my 1952 Colonial. I wanted some very challenging renovations, like raising the low ceiling in the stairway for more headroom, moving the guest bathroom to a better location, and a dream kitchen that looks even better than the one I picked on Houzz. Rick also came up with creative ideas like getting a large 8 foot window for the kitchen to view the stream out back. He saved over $1000 on the window at Big Jims Discount, but no one can tell by looking at it..

First of all, taking our old crooked bathroom and making anything out of it was a great challenge. Rick and his team (he pulls in great people where needed) were more than up for it! We are absolutely thrilled with the work he did. The effort required a lot of improvising (old house renovations) which they managed in stride. Lots of help making the most of the available space. All done while keeping within our budget. We got a whole lot more than we ever planned; the before and after is pretty astonishing. Thank you Rick and Company for making this happen for us!

If you want first class service and someone who you can trust, this guy is it. Ricks no-nonsense/everything upfront business style was such a pleasure to deal with. He is a perfectionist and will not settle with anything until you are pleased. True businessman and I would highly recommend to all. Very reasonably priced. Thank you Rick. Mark & Anne Seltzer

I have had the pleasure to know and work professionally with Rick Bagley for many years. He has always been responsive, on time, professional, and knowledgeable. Ricks workmanship is everything you would expect from a master carpenter. As business owner who runs renovation / restoration projects, Im always at ease when Rick is on my job sites.
