My family joined Lifetime when we moved to Plymouth, MN and I was 13 years old and we always had a great experience there. The workers were friendly, the gym was kept clean, and always up-to-date with latest equipment, classes, etc. Naturally, when I relocated to NJ and began looking for a gym to join, I looked up the nearest Lifetime location. I came to the Florham Park location and inquired about student options, as I am a full time college student at the moment. An employee referred me to the student membership option. Little did I know, this employee was going to either quit or be fired soon, so I was quietly misled about the terms of the student membership and provided with several perks (free alpha class pass, free lesson with a personal trainer), which I ended up taking, unsuspectingly. I came several times throughout the next twenty something days to take advantage of these perks and on my third visit, I was informed I was not able to come once a week under my membership (as I had been initially misinformed). I was quite humiliated, but that was the least of the problem. I was called by the general manager of the location, who politely apologized for the misinformation of their now, former employee. I said that was fine, but asked for a refund of my two month charges (mind you, I had only been a member for twenty something days at that point; not even a full month) and the 90-day challenge fee, which the trainer coerced me into participating in. I was told the refund for the challenge would be provided, but was given a pending no for the two months of charges and was promised a follow up call the next day with the final verdict. Not only was the call not returned, but when I left several voice mails to this manager over the course of a week, my calls were never returned. I ended up calling again and requested to speak to another manager, who basically relayed information from the first manager handling this, back to me. I was told that a follow up call was, in fact, never promised and that my charges would for sure not be refunded. Besides the fact that I was charged for the fees under false membership terms, I was returned with terrible customer service and no consideration of reimbursement for a mistake (intentional or not) their former employee had made causing me to have to bite the bullet. This experience definitely is leaving me with the opposite experience I initially had with Lifetime and I will second guess ever joining again when I graduate college and have the resources to join a gym on a full membership (at least this location for sure!). A wrong was done on their part and was not recompensed; very unprofessional.

***1/31/2016 Update*** This gym has almost become unbearable since the start of the new year. I understand that at this time of year, everyones resolution is to lose weight, get fit, blah, blah, blah...so one would think that a high-end facility like Lifetime would be ready for the influx of members right? Nope, not the case. Locker rooms are over-run with unlocked lockers full of peoples stuff. Olympic racks are being used for extended periods of time during peak-hour. Is there any rule about this? Trainers hogging Olympic racks during peak hours. I had one instance where a trainer was doing stretching exercises with a client in front of a Olympic rack, and he stated that he was using it. 15 minutes later, he is still performing stretching exercises! Unacceptable in my opinion. These experiences remind me of my time LA Fitness, only with a $100 price tag attached to it, in comparison to LA Fitnesss $20 monthly membership fee. At this point, Im paying 4x the amount for an outdoor pool thats open 6 months out of the year. This is a wonderful facility, but not without its flaws. I can go on forever on the pros and cons of this facility, but I will just add a few bullet points to help convey my thoughts: - My girlfriend and I came from LA Fitness in Clifton, and LA Fitness in West Orange, so the quality and cleanliness of Life Time is a huge step above both. Locker room is clean, clean towels are always available. - Not as many "bros" working out grunting and making a spectacle of themselves as they work out, and thats awesome. - Outdoor pool is a great plus. It gets packed on weekends and you have families taking up spots that they arent even sitting at. - People still leave towels on the gym floor. They leave machines and benches drenched in sweat without cleaning it. This may be a reflection on the human race as a whole, not on the gym. - Personal trainers sometimes train their clients using circuit training. That is great, but not great during peak hours and they are having the clients use a bench for 1 workout, then having them use dumbbells on the other side of the floor, with 5 minute rest intervals in between. Really? - Have not experienced the Cafe or Spa, so I cannot comment on either of those. - The Olympic lifting area is missing some some equipment that would make the lives of deadlifters much easier, but thats just my opinion. Aside from minor inconveniences, this is a great gym. You get what you pay for.

been going to this gym for last 6 years with my wife and my kid. everything has pros and cons so here we go PROS i travel for work so i can use any lifetime near my working location staff is friendly, i mostly work with DION in customer service or amy, they are great. you get what you pay for, u wont see irritating people there. tons of classes if u need do this on saturday, do your workout , go sit in steam room or jacuzzi then shower, drink a shake, go to rock climbing and then take a yoga class. or swim. you could literally spend a whole day there. cons but all manageable. gym is packed from 5 to 7 that is prime time, all the classes are mostly at that time i mostly go around 7 pm so i can easily workout, if u are planning to do alot of circuit training i recommend early morning or any time after 7:00 pm summer time outside is packed hard to find chair, well i mostly stay in the water so doesnt bother me. day care is only 2 hours for kid. so if my wife goes to gym with our son i cannot take him there again the same day. day care closes at 8:00 pm so it gives me only 1 hour to work out, stretching, use foam roller etc,, everything else costs on top of gym membership like smoothies and drinks.your towels and stuff are free. i go to alot of different gym and they all have the same 30 days cancellation policy for notice. but lifetime is nice enough, just give doctors notice and they will cxl it or hold it right that day. la fitness sucks big time, i had first tried it, shitty gym shitty equipment and very unfriendly staff. if u need a day pass just talk to any manager and they can give u a few days pass. i think they have a week pass on their website. if u feel immitated by people who are in good shape , dont be, you have to start some where and everybody is nice enough to help you out. just ask. it is a life style not just a 6 week diet..

Good: Lifetime is truly a state of the art facility. I have a knee injury and can only use low impact cardio equipment. At most gyms, this means the same elliptical with periods of biking to change it up. However, Lifetime has four different kinds of ellipticals, alone. They have a lot of equipment and it is well-maintained with something never being out of use for more than 24 hours. At other gyms, something would break and it would take a month before someone came to fix it. I do not have children yet, but Lifetime also has infant care in its child center and experienced child care staff. I went to one gym and their child care center required that you or a third party stay with the child. Huh? So, basically, there is no child care. The facility has always been clean, but I go in the morning and they have an overnight cleaning staff. Bad: Some of the trainers can be rude. If you are using a piece of equipment they want, they will not so nicely ask you to give it to them. It feels like being stuck-up on the street corner. Ugly: It is expensive with memberships being $100 per adult. And, whereas the Y has individual or family (couple or couple with kids qualifies) memberships, Lifetime has individual, couple and family with prices for individual and couple memberships being about $100 pp. On weekends and in the summer, the gym and pool is a zoo. My husband and I do not have kids. During the summer, most families in the area sign-up so they and their kids can use the pool. It is a complete mad house with 100s of kids and parents and the parents friends.
