***DO READ**** I usually never write reviews but this place deserves it. Cancelled my membership here. The manager at this place Dom or Tom whatever his name is bald white guy is the rudest and most arrogant person Ive ever seen. Last week the weather was warm so I was riding my motorcycle to the gym. Since their lockers are not big enough to fit a helmet I asked him if it was okay to leave the helmet with them at the front desk and his words were if you are going to bring your motorcycle here everyday Im not going to hold your helmet for you, if you bring it occasionally thats fine, we are not here to cater you. I told him if the lockers would fit a helmet I wouldnt have asked you to keep it here and he says go find a solution, maybe you could just keep it in the locker room somewhere. My question is what if a person doesnt have car and only has a motorcycle? What if someone steals the helmet if I leave it outside? Are you going to buy me a new helmet? Next I told him its not my fault your lockers dont fit a helmet so you give me a solution and he goes dont bring your motorcycle here. I told him maybe Ill have to cancel my membership then and he goes okay thats fine if you want to cancel your membership over this. Wow Great customer service there buddy. Then I told him okay Ill talk to the owner of this gym and I went to the locker room. NOW ALL OF THIS WASNT ENOUGH FOR HIM. HERE COMES MORE NOW THIS GUY WHO IS THE MANAGER OF THE GYM. LOL MANAGER???? FOR REAL??? HE COMES INTO THE LOCKER ROOM WHILE I WAS GETTING READY TO GO HIT THE WEIGHT AND THREATENS ME SAYING HEY MAN IF YOU WANT TO MEET OUTSIDE WE CAN DO IT. I TOLD HIM LOOK IM NOT HERE TO FIGHT ANYBODY AND HE SAYS NO WE HAVE A PROBLEM NOW. YOU WANT TO TAKE THIS OUTSIDE. I WAS LIKE NOPE I DONT WANT TO FIGHT. AND THEN I TOLD HIM WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO BE A DICK FOR A HELMET AND HE ALMOST CAME CLOSE TO HIT ME THERE AND SAYS YOU BETTER WATCH OUT NOW. ALL THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE COMPLETELY NO MATTER WHAT. NO APOLOGIES AFTER ALL THIS EITHER FROM HIM. I DONT KNOW WHAT WAS HE SO MAD ABOUT. I DONT KNOW IF HE HATES MOTORCYCLES OR IF HES A RACIST OR HE DOESNT LIKE HIS JOB AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. ANYWAY NEVER GOING BACK TO THAT GYM AGAIN. NOT ONLY DID I FEEL INSULTED BUT WAS ALSO THREATENED. NOT PAYING MY HARD-EARNED MONEY FOR THAT KIND OF A CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ALL THE BS. THREATENING YOUR CUSTOMER TAKES IT TO WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL OF POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I joined here about 6 months ago (after belonging to a smaller gym right down the road) and this was the best decision I ever made. Besides the fact that its only $23/month (after taxes) this place has great hours (5am-11pm weekdays and 7am-7pm weekends), a TON of free weights, machines, and cardio equipment (all with personal TVs) and a cardio theater if you want to watch the "movie of the day" on a big screen. Im an early morning gym goer so there is never an issue with it being too crowded. The few times I have gone on the weekends, I noticed it does get really crowded, but I think all gyms are going to be like that. The only negative (and I dont blame Retro for this) is that there is some type of odor that hits you in the face as soon as you walk in. I think the building used to be some kind of factory before Retro took over the space. I dont know exactly what was made there, but whatever it was it has seeped into the walls and cant go away. After a few minutes though, I dont even notice it. None the less, its not a deal breaker for me because everything else about the facility is great. But you will notice it the first time you walk in. Overall, I love this gym and am really happy I decided to switch to Retro.

The owner (or someone) filters only on positive reviews on YELP so I figured I would post here. I went in one day because my husband goes there on one of his off days. The girl who opens let one member in but locks the door on everyone else. I was half way out of my car figuring she would let everyone in and was locked out like some sort of criminal. Found out later (evident by them kissing while she is WORKING) that they are evidently dating. Call me crazy but this isnt high school...you can live without your boyfriend being there. Tried to order a shake after my workout but her bf would not move out of the way so I left and just went home without. Bottom line, go to the one in Piscataway if you dont want to deal with high school antics.

I was told this facility was going to be open the first week of December when I pre-registered in November. TWO months later, its STILL not open. Ive called several times only to constantly be told, "Its the contractor. Were going to be open in the next two weeks"...but it never opens. I regret leaving the LA Fitness across town. Its $30/mo as opposed to $20 w/Retro, but at least you can go to the freaking place and work out. If I could have given no stars, I would have.

Great Gym. I live 5 mins away and used to go to LA fitness across town. Retro is a billion times better. The staff is much nicer and the staff is meticulous on making sure any mess is cleaned very quickly. Gym tends to be busy between 5:30-8 PM, but what gym isnt. Considering that no one can truly every be 100% satisfied, I would rate my satisfaction at 95+%. I dont work at Retro nor do I have any financial gains from this comment. I truly just enjoy this gym.

I had called up this plce and they told me my renewal is in march and then when i called up in feb, they say its already renewed and to cancel the same , i have to give 60 days notice.. This is pathetic... they do everything to get you enrolled and when u want to go out they do cheap stuff like this... Cant believe it.. please anyone taking membership BEWARE !! havent used this gym in the last 1 yr but i dont like this way...

Absolutely fed up with this gym. Tried calling them to cancel, the phone goes to being disconnected. There customer service is also horrible, they are nasty, and don't even try bringing a guest, even if they are your family member they will shun you away.

There is this terrible smell that you get as soon as you walk in that is just horrible. There are few front desk staff that are really good but there are couple of them that are super rude. But the exercise equipment is really good and trainers are awesome

This is the better Retro and Ive been to them all from woodbridge to matawan.Its newer and bigger..only downside is its next to a spice factory so the smell lingers on your clothes but at least it doesnt smell bad UPDATE: spice smell is gone!
