How is the movie room useless? That seems like an opinion not a fact. My friends and I go in there every night- you get to knock out an hour of cardio while watching a fairly new movie. Some people enjoy working out in peace in comparison to a loud, bright, open room. Ive never had an issue with it being too crowded to get on any equipment. I was a member at WOW in Middletown for about 5 years and that was a nightmare- hidden fees, too crowded to find an elliptical, not enough weight machines, ect. Ive actually been very pleased with the quality of this gym. The staff is friendly for the most part and didnt give me a hard time when my card was stolen- they let me workout until I could get to my "home store" to pay off my balance. The ONLY complaint I have is that there are not enough group classes. Infact the gym is not big enough for a work out room which is a disappointment. If you are looking for a gym with a class schedule- this is not the gym for you. But for some cheap dues with no hidden fees, this is the perfect match !

Not sure how people can complain about the lack of machines, theres plenty of machines, and lots of free weights. Its a little crowded back where the free weights are, but its certainly doable back there. I like the mix of people in the place, and you dont seem to have small packs of people hanging out. Ive found the staff to be cordial. Although they do list it as 24 hours, they do have summer hours for sat/sun, which I understand since there would be like 3 people in there on a sunday after 7pm. Ive never found it too crowded, and Ive been getting there on weekdays between 5-7; middletown has a lot of people in it now, and the rest of the gyms in the area arent competitive price wise.

Kind of small, few classes offered. I lived up in Kenilworth for a while, the facility there was larger, offered spin, aerobic etc. Classes. This isnt bad but if they moved to larger facility it would be so much better. As far as cleanliness goes, not bad, but not good either. Locker rooms oders, the cup holders on equipment are dirty at times. Treadmills need to be updated, the TV controllers are falling apart. Staff is friendly and willing to help, except for the occasional muscle head at the counter whod rather chat with his buddies than ring up your water. Giving this place another year, after that will look for better facility and definitely spread the word.

I signed up for a membership -- and have never made the time to add it to my routine, so Ive been there a grand total of ONE TIME in a year (my bad!). But, the owner was present when I visited, took a real interest and pride in showing me the facility, and did what you would expect an owner to do. It was "clean-enough, modern-enough", and I liked the hours which were (may still be) "open all the time, day and night" on weekdays, extended on weekends, and on paper at least, that works best for me. Even during peak periods, it didnt look so busy that you couldnt get a parking space, or would have to wait too long to access the equipment. Could be a lot worse.

Ive been to this gym one time and loved it. Im mad I dont live closer because its much nicer than a lot of other Retros. People in other reviews are complaining? Try going to other Retro fitness gyms and youll learn to appreciate the Middletown one. Seriously, you pay $20 and expect a big state of the art gym? Go to hell with your stupid $20 and go sign up at a $60+ / month gym. Oh u dont want to because youre cheap? Then shut up . You get what you pay for and a lot of other Retro customers get less bang for their buck than you whiny middletown people do

Its tiny, there is always too many people in the free weights section at any reasonable hour of the day. When something breaks, specifically sanitary items like toilets or hand towel dispenser...it takes them weeks to repair. The variety of strength machines was recently reduced drastically because they made room for some stupid gigantic crossfit cage which no one barely uses. There is no steam room, no tanning or decent classes here. If all you care about is cardio or basic classic bodybuilding strength training then this place is for you!

The staff lies to you about your membership - they tell you its only for a year then they have you initial an automatic renewal area - canceling the membership is a huge pain, and dealing with the company that charges you is even worse. Be prepared to cancel at least 3 months before you plan on leaving the gym for good. Plus the gym machines are usually packed if you go after work, so you dont even get what you pay for half the time.

Buyer BEWARE!!! In August 2014 my wife signed my daughter up for the year. My daughter was busy with high school and work so she couldnt find time to go and quit in March. We were told it was a 1 year contract. We honored the contract and paid until August and then they add a Maintenance fee on the last payment in August... (When I call about the payment being bigger I get "Its in the contract...") Buyer BEWARE!!!

NOT OPEN 24 HRS LIKE THEY CLAIM!!!!!! ONLY REASON I JOINED AND CLOSED BY 6 ON SUNDAY!!!!!???? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?? STAFF ALSO NOT THAT NICE AND THERE IS NOT ENOUGH OPEN SPACE TO WORK OUT. THEY WASTED A TON OF SPACE WITH A "MOVIE ROOM" WHICH IS COMPLETLY USELESS..

Horrible gym, you cannot get your workouts done because it is too crowded. Whenever u head over to a new machine, there always has to be someone on it. I highly do not recommend this gym
