My son attended this Day Care/Preschool almost a year ago to date. I feel the need to post my review due to the fact that my son still recalls the negative experiences which he endured while attending this school. I am not sure if things have changed with Silver Spoons since but I wanted to share my experience and opinion. Very good Riverdale location. Excellent enrichment programs for the children but dont be fooled. The Director, Ms. Brujan, is an educated and qualified childhood educator; however, she did not run the program and was rarely on the premises. The assistant director Mrs. Edmonson, was nurturing, caring and taught during the day but was in and out of the facility throughout the day. In my opinion, there were not enough “qualified” staff members in the facility to tend to the childrens needs. There was no structure during play time, very limited space in the facility for the children to interact; kids were often left to fend for themselves since they werent supervised properly. My child was often bullied and would regularly come home with bite marks that staff members were not aware of due to lack of supervision. In the end, my child reported that staff members Ms. Tavarez and Ms. Santana were physically abusive as a means of discipline. They all denied accusations. The director of the program tried to cover up and was caught in lies. She was also unprofessional and vindictive since I reported them to ACS regarding my childs claim. In closing, I regret that my son was ever enrolled in this facility. It bothers me that I trusted this establishment with my baby. Children who are that young are not always going to tell you what goes on, they usually lash out and misbehave as a form of communication. I hope that this review is helpful. It definitely would’ve prevented me from enrolling my son to begin with.

This is my daughters first year at Silver Spoons and the school year hasnt ended but I feel inclined to give them a review for such a great job thus far. PROS: 1. LEARNING: - My 3 year old daughter has learned so much! It’s quite amazing! She’s already writing her name, knows all her shapes/numbers and the list goes on and on. - They do parent/teacher sessions twice a year where you monitor your child’s progress and set goals. I have an older child and this has never happened at other daycares. - Kids get Homework each week. My daughter LOVES doing her homework, she feels like a big kid. 2.EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: - Outdoor playground. - Themed events/parties every month. This year the kids did a show where they performed for the parents. It was adorable! - Piano lessons - Trips 3. COST: - Very reasonable rate especially for the location and what you get. - Foods included in the rate! - They don’t charge you if you go on vacation or child is sick for a week. - I like that when I called they told me the price upfront. I had a migraine talking to other places that would refuse to give me their rate unless I took a tour. Really?!! What’s the mystery? 4. Staff: - The staff is great. They potty trained my daughter which I truly appreciated. - There’s 2 classes, one for the older kids and one for the younger ones. There’s a main teacher in each class (who I believe are the owners) and then 2 assistant per class. Everyone is very nice and accommodating! Cons: I don’t have any but some things you may want to know: - They open at 8am and as of this review I don’t think they offer early drop-offs (But it’s worth asking as things can change). - They close for part of August. Not a huge problem if you schedule vacation during this time. Overall Silver Spoons is a really great daycare and I would highly recommend to others!!!

I sometimes wonder why people write comments like this. If you check your records correctly, you can see that day cares take at least 10 - 12 months to reopen after violations. Meticulous records, parent letters, community support, and an excellent profile led to a VERY QUICK reopening of the day care. Reopenings do not happen out of chance. I am sure "Mark" knows that. I am real estate agent and my child is enrolled at Silver Spoons. Perhaps, the problem here is that individuals like "Mark" have not been exposed to authentic teaching. If you know anything about early childhood instructional pedagogy, you can see that Silver Spoons addresses differentiated instruction for monolingual, bilingual, and special education children. That is why I and other parents waited patiently for it to reopen. He is now gaining the academic and social knowledge that he was deprived of this summer. Perhaps Mark is also deprived of tender, love, and care. If Mark were a child, I would tell his parents to enroll him in the Silver Spoons Day Care. But since he or she is not, then Ill just pray that his or her children receive the same great education that my child receives. But thank you for letting me know how intense you feel about not being able to register your child in the day care. It makes me feel great, that my child is.

I am a first grade teacher for the Department of Education and my daughter attends Silver Spoons daycare. As a mom, I used to worry about all the things that I have to teach my child. Kindergarten is not what is used to be. But at Silver Spoons I don’t have to worry anymore. Many of the strategies and standards that I have learned in my career are implemented at Silver Spoons. It is an incredible relief to know that I can team up with Mrs. Edmondson and help my child improve her speech and learn the fundamentals… and I do not mean ABC’s and coloring. I mean actual reading, arts and crafts, plays, science, and about the community. My daughter is really learning at Silver Spoons. She receives instruction that is geared to her development and age appropriate homework that makes her feel successful. They even have parent teacher conferences to help set academic goals for all the children. It has been such a great experience that I wish I had known about Silver Spoons when I was enrolling my 6 year old son in day care years ago. Ultimately, I did a great thing for my daughter enrolling her at Silver Spoons.

My daughter has attended Silver Spoons daycare from age of 2-4 (present). I am so grateful for this day care!!! I am a professional working full-time in the Kingsbridge community and I can go to work everyday with peace of mind knowing that my daughter is getting a stimulating, caring, and consistent environment at Silver Spoons. Silver Spoons provides hands-on activities including trips, egg hatching projects, and plays. The teachers test my daughters skills and learning style and accommodate her lessons. I am confident that my daughter will be ahead of all of her classmates when she attends Kindergarten next year. For the two months that Silver Spoons was closed for unlawful reasons I placed my daughter in another well known day care in Riverdale and it could not compare to Silver Spoons. The day I heard that Silver Spoons had reopened I put my daughter back into Silver Spoons and cared less about loosing my monthly payment at the other school. Silver Spoons day care is a blessing and by having my daughter there I feel like I "struck gold." -Deanna Collins
