Our family rented Fairbrother Lodge in Lake Placid during the Ironman week. We went several weeks before the check out the house and make sure it was suitable for up to 25 people as advertised. There were several deficiencies we pointed out to the agent. On arrival the house had only been partially cleaned, there were not enough towels or silverware, various lights were not working, the hot tub was moldy and had not been cleaned, etc. We called Merrill when there were issues but this got tiresome. We were there to enjoy ourselves, not manage their property. Given that the rental is over $12,000 for Ironman week one would suppose that it would be in pristine condition. We wrote quite a nice and long letter that has been basically ignored. Merrill has a bit of a monopoly in Lake Placid. So if you want to rent a property (probably not Fairbrother Lodge) then make sure you do a thorough walk through WITH THEM on arrival and get everything sorted out immediately. Would look for a property with a different agent next year.

The team at Merrill Thomas and specifically Brooks Reynolds have just guided us through an emotional parting from our beautiful Gull Pond camp.
