We had our Christmas party here for the first time on a friday night from 8 to 12. I decided to park on the side street instead of valet so i wouldnt have to wait for my car when leaving. The valet practically knocked me over when i was walking on the sidewalk so he could run back to the front of the venue to get more cars not to mention they race the cars to the back to park them! Glad i didnt use it. Now its about 830 or 840 and a few of us are at the bar waiting for the bartender for about 5 or 10 minutes. Then they decided to rearrange the bars move them to the other side of the room then back to the original place again. Smh. Now the salads are already at each place setting but if u dont sit down in a timely fashion like around 845 and if u get there after 9 the servers take up the salad from the empty seat so by the time i finalized my seating I didnt have any salad and neither did the late comers around 915. The food was just ok they served u 2 little baby potatoes, the pasta was very very al dente, could have used some fried zucchini like the Staaten, guess i should have had more pasta.. When they served cake and forget about coffee if u are on the dance floor, i asked the server why did he take everyones cake back, he replied "we all were dancing and it was sitting there for 20 minutes and that he did me a favor by taking it because it was sugar". Dont know why this place was.picked for $70 because i felt they didnt want us there. I will suggest the Staaten again for next year for 5 or 10 less theu give more!!

I attended the staten island democrat dinner last night at the excelsior grand and was flawed by the attention to detail. starting with the valet parking all the way through dessert, not one detail was missed. upon entering i was impressed with the exterior landscaping, lighting & huge glass atriums. the lobby is equally impressive with its marble flooring, high ceilings and exquisite decor. what mostly impressed me was the excellent service & delicious food. 600 guests were in attendance and the service was seamless. the excelsior executed perfectly what would appear to be a challenging task to serve 600 guests. the evening started with passed hors doeuvres and open bar. the first course of the sit down dinner was penne in a tasty marinara sauce with a hint of cream & prosciutto. the garden salad was as fresh as can be and my end cut of prime rib was cooked perfectly & was delicious. kudos to the campitiello family for providing great food & service consistently for over 4 decades.

You must definitely order the Steak. By far the best steak Ive ever had at a catering hall. Also, the burger sliders during cocktail hour are the BOMB.
