In my 21 years of life, I have never had a good haircut, until I went to Ambushed Salon. I live all the way in California and I will never go anywhere else other than Ambushed to get my hair cut. I have extremely thick, dense and frizzy hair. I had let it grow long, even though the majority of it was dead beyond repair, because I thought the weight would help. Ive always wanted a short cut, but every hair dresser Ive ever been to has not had experience with my hair type. If you have hair like mine you know what I mean; you walk in and your hair dresser is like OMG you have so much hair. All of a sudden the whole salon is surrounding your chair, oohing and awing at your massive frizzy mess of hair. Typically they ruin it by going in with thinning scissors and cutting out chunks, or leaving uneven layers all over the place. I usually come out looking like a chopped up triangle and then just spending the time afterwards straightening it so I dont look like a circus freak. When I sat in Amys chair, my life changed. As she started cutting off the inches of dead hair, at least 4 or more inches in some places, my hair stared taking a shape I literally had never seen before. At one point I started crying, I never thought I would see my hair take any sort of curly form, yet there it was.. curls. Not frizz. CURLS. I love my cut so much! For the first time in my life, I have the layers that I want. If you have curly hair, or if your daughter has curly hair, PLEASE this is the place to go. For the first time in my life I can let my hair air dry. AIR DRY! Im so happy, this salon has changed my life. No longer will I have to spend up to four hours fixing my hair. I highly recommend. Its amazing what a good cut from the right stylist can do for you and your hair.

I went to this salon hoping to get a color and shape for my hair. I called the salon and asked if they were able to work with African american hair types and textures i was assured they were trained in all curly hair. so i made an appointment, when i got there i once again asked they stylist if she was comfortable with my hair texture and curls, once again i got a yes. so i showed her a picture and asked if she could do that style she said yes so i let her begin after a few minutes of cutting i reached up to feel my hair to discover i did not have any she had cut my hair completly off from the nape of my neck to the crown of my head. i was devastated and in shock my hair was gone what was left was an uneven stringy mess. when i gasped she had the nerve to ask me isnt this what you wanted (noooooooooo that is not what the picture looks like is it) is all i wanted to scream! i so not understand how she got that out of the picture i showed her. now i am left to look a hot mess and i am sooo embarressed to go out in public i get laughed at and my coworker stare and laugh at me i even heard a few comments when they thought i could not. all i can do is cry i cry the first thing in the morning when i reach p to touch my head and there is nothing there and everytime i look in the mirror. i cant even stand anyone to look at me rightnow. i feel sooo ugly. all i can do now is cut it off even and wait for it to grow back my only option is a boy cut because that is how low she cut it. go at your own risk.

What I will tell you is how great my hair cut was. Because at the end of the day, thats all that really matters. Especially for a curly-haired girl who has never had a good haircut in her whole life. For years, Ive been begging salons to cut my hair a certain way (volume on top with very thin yet long layers at the bottom). I always walked out of the salon with a flat crown and huge bushy thick layers at the bottom. Pretty much the opposite of what I ask...Until I met Amy. I went to the owner of the salon because I knew I could be direct with her and shes the one who cares most about the reputation of her salon. She LISTENED to me. She INFORMED me of what shed do. And then she EDUCATED me about curly hair through the entire process. And shes super nice to top it all off. BONUS: Amy also knows how to style curly hair! 100% of my appointments prior to visiting Ambushed, I would walk out of the salon and go straight home, wash my hair, and style it the way I normally do. Because most salons would give me a frizzball style because they couldnt find the right products or diffuse properly. For the first time in my life (at 27!!) I walked straight out of the salon and felt like a million bucks.

Ive been going to this salon for years and Im so happy I found Amy! Im multi racial with 3b and 3c hair and growing up my hair was frowned upon. It took me years to actually wear it curly, Ive always experienced horrible horrible haircuts along the way and stylists at other salons always made judgmental comments about how I have black girl hair and how my hair was course, while in fact my hair is extremely fine in texture... Showing they had no idea how to CUT CURLY HAIR!! Amy showed me how to embrace my hair and has supported me through my hair journey! Ive never left a hair salon so happy. Thank you Amy for being such an amazing person and helping people love the hair theyre born with. Coming here is worth any penny, you can trust your hair in the hands of every stylist here. After getting trims every three months my hair has been successfully growing longer and maintaining its health. Also another bonus they use sulfate/paraben free products!! Come to this salon!!

I heard about Ambushed from my colleague and had the best cut there! I felt so great when I left! Ive always had wavy and fine hair that tends to fall pretty limp, but there were always a few curls hiding that encouraged me to keep trying. Sarah did a great job on my cut and my hair is the curliest Ive ever had! She was very attentive and listened carefully about what I wanted to achieve, and did a great job telling me what she was doing (or asking to do) and why. After my appointment, I went from a 2B/2C curl type to more of a 2C/3A. The location in the Short North was also convenient/trendy and the salon was full of natural light and chic decoration. I will most definitely be going back again, and telling any curlies I know!

love Love LOVE!!!! FINALLY!!!! A stylist(s) who "gets" my hair and believes me! Im 45 years old and have been so disheartened by most salons, to the point where I just started cutting my own hair to avoid the tears I would invariably spill on the way home from some horrible experience with a stylist who thought they would teach me how to make my hair look good. Ambushed Salon sooooo understood everything! From how to cut it, how to dry it and introduced me to some fabulous products. Im so thankful I accidentally drove by here one day! Ill never go anywhere else!!
