A little pricey, the place is a cash cow, at $13 a person and a lot full of vehicles and about 70-200 people there, thats a lot of cash, I personally wish the price was lower. The food is amazing, most of the time, other times, the chicken and ham is a bit dry but hey it happens. They play off as if the place is entirely Amish, but clearly untrue, I know some of the employees there, at work, they wear their Amish attire, outside of work, they are everyday people. A uniform will fool no one. It isnt necessarily Amish home cooking, but the food is excellent, price is a bit high. Their gift shop has great things, but again the prices there are extremely high. The staff is pretty good I would say, for what the waiters/waitresses make, they could pay a bit more attention to each table. The place is always crowded, that is a down fall, but who can blame them, the place is great. As for the traffic they cause on R42, man, I can tell you how many times I want to ram those slow turners off the road with my 5.7L V8.. but again, cant blame them, the place is fantastic. Please lower the price a bit though. I am sure the revenue would increase incredibly if the locals (as myself) knew I could eat their more often.

I enjoy visiting the bakery, I havent eaten a meal here in a while. My concerns with the bakery is consistency with product, especially the creme filled long johns. I can understand availability since that is hard to predict. They can, however, control product quality and consistency. My last trip I bought two caramel long johns. It was ridiculous , they had hardly any creme, in fact the ends of the donuts had no creme at all. Then I visited them today and it looked like some had plenty, others hardly any creme. One more thing that sometimes is bothersome, some of the ladies who are at the counter get "perturbed" when I want to pick a particular item in the case. Mostly they act as though they cant hear me. It seems like some of the younger workers have fun with it....they greet me as that guy, but always in a playful way. The older ones seem to have the biggest issue with me choosing the product that I am paying for. I think sometimes they forget that , I am making a purchase, shouldnt I get the pastry I want?

Was in the bakery Tuesday 11/24/2015, picked up Dutch apple pie, bread pudding, 2 pumpkin pies, and 2 banana cream pies, and a pumpkin roll 63.00+ I spent. Gave one of the banana cream pies to the neighbors, and kept one for myself, this evening I cut into the Banana pie, and was surprised to find it not only had banana cream, but peanut butter too!!!!! Called the neighbors to see what they had, they too found peanut butter in theirs????? This is not the first time we have anticipated banana cream only to get something other!!! What gives??? And the banana cream is not as abundant as it once was, and there are no longer actual pieces of banana in there. Say the pie measures 3 top to bottom of that you get 1/4" crust, 1/2" banana cream, and the remaining 3-1/4" is whipped cream!!! Very sad what has become of Der Dutchman

We make an annual visit here for my grandmas birthday. The buffet is a good way to taste lots of their dishes for a price thats about the average of their entrees. The fried chicken here is stellar. Its the one time each year that I even eat fried chicken. The pot roast is also really good. Dont expect much of the salad bar. The iceberg lettuce is shredded so it ends up practically pulverised and very wet. I skip that part. Vegetarians and vegans beware that the plant-based choices are very limited. Theres a token veg burger on the menu and the bun is noted as not vegan, but otherwise, your choices are slim. Overall, the food is good for a country style family restaurant and theyre very accommodating to groups.

Im not sure how authentic Der Dutchman is, but you can get a ton of hearty, tasty, comfort food for a very reasonable price. Like most people I tend to go for the buffet. They have a huge salad bar thats kept clean and fresh. The hot food section usually includes 3 or 4 meats, fried chicken always being one of them. They always have mashed potatoes, corn, noodles, stuffing and usually a couple other sides. Even though they have bread pudding on the buffet its still hard not to order from dessert menu. I know youre going to be full when you leave, but it is so worth your time to stop by the bakery. Everything Ive ever had there has been wonderful, but the maple long johns are crazy good.

A unique place to eat in a small town outside of Columbus/Hillard area. A full bakery and resturant makes for excellent bread and deserts. We only ordered the buffet and everything was solid food. Fresh bread and rolls served at the table are a major plus. We enjoyed our experience and would recommend to anyone wanting a family style dinner. If you only make it in for the bakery, they have a full selection of pies, cakes, donuts, cupcakes, and bread of all types. However if your wanting something specific make sure you call and order as once its gone its gone for the day.

11:10 am on a Saturday cool they have a breakfast buffet. Yet they will not be filling it your welcome to clean the scraps up though. Ok well I will just order off the breakfast menu... Uhhh no you wont. Just sad a big "family" restaurant like this cant figure out how to cook breakfast past 11am on a Saturday with army of people they have working there (even McDonalds can handle that now). I will never step foot in the door, or even mention the lack luster service that I received today, not worth my time as obviously I wasnt worth theres.

The food is delicious and always very satisfying but even more than that the people are absolutely lovely and seem genuinely happy to be serving you/assisting you. How often do you encounter that? The ride out to Plain City is gorgeous as well. This is a day trip that you can take with your family and/or friends and create some lovely memories. Please do not forget to go to the gift shop! Even if you are not looking to make a purchase it is lots of fun to browse:)

As someone on a ketogenic diet, its incredibly hard to find something to eat thats not heavy on carbs, even on the buffet. If you are not restricted by a low carb diet, its very tasty comfort food, and their desert items are delicious. Their doughnuts are huge and delicious, although I found the cream filling a little too heavy on the fat-to-sugar ratio. It could stand to be a little sweeter. Good, but inferior to Little Doughnut Factory in Hilliard.

This place was way more than what I expected. Only got some donuts from the bakery but Ive heard great things about the restaurant. The doughnuts here are one of the best if not the best I have ever tried. The cream filling is just the right amount of sweetness so that you dont feel like you are eating pure sugar. Theyre huge though, enough to split one between too people... not a bad thing considering they cost the same as your regular doughnut shop.
