I found myself laughing out loud while reading the other reviews written here so far because they are fairly accurate in expressing my thoughts and experiences with this facility. Due to my work travel, I have had the opportunity to visit many other LAF locations throughout the country, as well as being a member at many local gyms throughout the Philly region prior to my move to this area and joining the Collegeville facility. Thus, my comments below are based on much experience with other clubs. So let me begin with the staff and management of LAF in Collegeville; In one word: BRUTAL!! Never in all of my visits to any other clubs...LAF or otherwise...have I experienced such a useless group of desk personnel, trainers and managers in particular. Once they receive your money, you may as well be dead to them. Not one member I asked could tell me who the manager is or even point him/her out. And these are members who go almost every day! With a few exceptions, I am rarely greeted on my way in or out of the club, mainly because the front desk personnel are too busy texting on their cell phones or surfing the internet. The trainers (and I use that term loosely), are constantly throwing the football around w/ one another, texting, or hitting on the female members, and are rarely seem on the floor unless they happen to be "training" somebody. And they sure as heck do not enforce any of the gym rules such as putting your equip/weights away when you are finished, cleaning up your sweat from the machines or any other gym etiquette. In all of the years I have been working out, and in all of the gyms I have visited, Ive never seen experienced a staff as poor as this one. Of course, I do not go to a gym for the staff so if that was my only issue, I would be able to overlook and tolerate. Unfortunately that is only the beginning of the issues here. In addition, as others have expressed, the equipment is constantly out of order or in need of some TLC. The cardio equipment in particular, where there constantly seems to be 4 or 5 treadmills out of order at any given time. And the wait time to fix them lasts weeks!! With so many LAFs in the region, this should be a no-brainer to get these machines back on line in 24*48 hrs. But its the same ole lame excuses time after time. Hell...they have your money already so what do they care??!! In addition, the locker rooms...esp the toilet areas...are disgusting! Hell...Im a guy so you would think that I have a bit more tolerance for things like that but this is beyond anything I can even accept. It smell worse than an out house! And the paper towel dispensers are constantly empty and the trash cans are always over flowing. And the sink areas.....dont get me started. Ive seen cleaner in rest stop areas off of major highways. To me, much of this stems from the fact that the place is simply too crowded. There seems to be no limit on the number of members they accept here and they just keep piling the people in. So how can they keep gaining members when the place is so bad you ask? Well, mainly bec they were the only game in town for a long time. That is changing lately however so we will see what happens. I know quite a few members who have now joined Retro Fitness as a secondary gym and are planning to drop their LAF membership shortly. Fortunately for me I moved a couple of months ago so now no longer need to rely on this place. In fact, after seeing how my new gym operates, I see even more clearly how poor the LAF in Collegeville really is. Good riddance!!!!

Ive been a member here for eight months and I really love the atmosphere and energy of the place. It really motivates me to work out and push myself! I also really love that classes are included in the membership and the ones that Ive taken have been really great! Martha especially is an awesome instructor who really gets you doing a great workout and has lots of variety to keep you interested. The hours are really great and lets me be flexible with my schedule. Theyre open early and stay open a lot later than most places. I took a star away because of two things. One: I wish they enforced a rule about people cleaning machines and mats after using them. Like with a cleaning wipe. My boyfriend and I are the only ones Ive ever seen do this and sometimes when we do the mats are really dirty. Ew. And two: Theyre a little overly pushy about selling personal training. If you have a strong backbone then good. My boyfriend and I definitely are the types to not be pushed around or coerced into buying things. But if not, itll be hard for you and itll make you feel uncomfortable. It got to the point where I literally had to tell the guy to stop trying and that he was wasting his time. But other than those two things the gym is really great. Better than most! And wonderful price for what you get access to.

A couple weeks ago while waiting for the gym to open - they were late again - I said to no one in particular in the gathering group, "They dont care if they open on time". Someone else said, "They dont care." That comment met with much agreement and was right on the mark. From the broken machines, general lack of maintenance, and staff with attitude, this place is a mess. One reason gets me there - its close to home. If you have a choice - go somewhere else. Its been a couple of years since I posted my review, and the gym continues to decline. On 11-22-13 I again waited in the morning and left about 5:30 when no one came to unlock the door. I heard later from the manager they opened at 6:30, an hour and a half late! I also received a lecture about it being reasonable to open late once in a while. So instead of a workout, I get attitude. At least I was promised a $30 refund for the month, so thats better than nothing and proves it pays to complain. Its still close to home, though dirtier and with more broken equipment and long repair times.

The map location shown by Google is actually their pre-sale location. The actual club is located in the Providence Town shopping center (on Route 29 with Wegmans, Best Buy, Home Goods, etc..). The club opened late in 2009 and was great when it was brand new. Over a year later, the equipment is fine (thats the important part). But with regards to the locker facilities, its already starting to get a run down feeling. The bathrooms are always out of paper towells and soap. The actual sink and vanities are beat up. The cardio deck is always running out of towells and cleaner to wipe down the machines which is a royal pain. It seems to me that the majority of the people that work there just dont care. For example, the cardio deck is out of towells and there are at least 3 or 4 "sales" people sitting at their computers screwing around on the internet. Even if you complain to the front desk they say they will get someone right on it and they never do.
