USPS is one of those institutions that I think really contributes to making the U.S. a great nation, certainly much more so than its for profit counterparts. Any country can have big business, but the functionality and charm of the postal service--an institution that exists not to make money, but solely to provide a service to the public--that is a something that I very much appreciate. I agree with another reviewers comments about the staff. The USPS staff tend to be such genuinely kind folks. Its clear that they enjoy their jobs and getting to be a part of an institution that I hope will be around for a long time to come. Another great thing that I learned recently is that the USPS has programs to check in on the elderly as they make routine deliveries (called the Carrier Alert Program). It makes sense that they could provide this service since they pass by the places anyway, but it just made me thankful that this sort of program exists. Can you imagine FedEx autonomously implementing such a program? You would have to wring the neck of the CEO to get them to implement a service for the sole purpose of furthering the common good.

The people who work there are quite honestly the nicest, most down to earth people I have ever met. Its worth driving further just to send something from the Devon US Post Office.
