I have been a customer of Pulse Beauty Academy for many years, before I started working for The School. From a customer standpoint, be prepared to be patient! The students are working hard under the instruction and supervision of licensed cosmetologists. Therefore, the work can possibly take longer than expected, or the Future Professional may seem meek or unsure. Trust me, if you are patient with them, you will end up with something that you LOVE! If your hair doesnt turn out exactly like a photograph, please be understanding that these are students! It may be that you were their very first guest, or their very first highlight/balayage/ombre. They are giving this their best effort, and insulting them does nothing for their education. If you are able to politely communicate that your hair didnt turn out exactly as you please, they are ALWAYS more than willing to redo your hair to make it right. Pulse is a school, and everything is viewed as a learning experience! We dont punish the Future Professionals if a mistake is made, we show them how to correct the mistake exactly how a salon professional would! Its clearly so much easier to write a poor review than to have a conversation with an employee regarding your experience, which is commonplace yet disappointing. Our student body graduates within 10-15 months, so the odds that youll get the same student twice (without requesting them) is pretty small. We have clients who have been coming here since we opened our doors and are totally awesome and understand the process of getting your hair done at an educational facility, and for that we are always grateful. From an employee standpoint, Pulse is an amazing place to be! Our Future Professionals work so hard to complete the 1,250 hour curriculum. They are in the classroom, and then work on our clinic classroom. They are learning how to do so many different things in an always changing industry. I am proud to be a part of their time spent here at Pulse, however small that may be. So many of our graduates have gone on to do amazing things in this industry, and they have proven that a Cosmetology license doesnt mean that your only option is to work behind the chair in a salon. There are so many opportunities awarded to Cosmetology professionals and Pulse grads really go above and beyond!

The price is cheap, given that your hair is cut by students , rather than by actual professionals. That is the exact reason I went in to get my hair cut. Im a student myself, and cantt afford to go to salons to get my hair done. The atmosphere is definitely more casual and enjoyable, and my hair turned out just as nice as if I had gone to a salon. But it isnt what I asked for. I want my hair cut very short with longer bangs so I could spike them up a bit. A "guys cut" if you will. But, apparently, because I was visibly female, I was not allowed to get this cut. The student I had was understanding, but inexperienced and actually made comments about the difference between a "lesbian haircut" and a "good hair cut", in reference to the comment I made about my mothers old rule of "hair must be longer than your chin" and my roommates comments of "you look like a lesbian". This kind of commentary is judgmental and rude. Then, when the teacher came over to okay the student before she started, I tried explaining to her what I wanted done, because the student didnt seem to understand. The teacher then told me that I should get it longer, that way I can style it. Being somewhat meek in person, I decided to just let it go and try to convince the student to cut it shorter. Then the other teacher came over and cut it a bit shorter, but it took convincing from me. I received several odd looks and my attempt to explain that "I dont care if it can be styled, I just want it short, like a guys!" was met with a half finished sentence basically telling me "No." I left with a slightly shorter-than-normal, gloried pixie cut when I wanted a "guys cut" for lack of a better word. I did not want a "girly" version of the hairstyle, I didnt care about style. I made it clear what I wanted, and they refused to cut it that way simply because they didnt believe that I, a visually female person (when in reality I am non-binary in gender, and actually a lesbian so-thanks for those comments), should have the hairstyle I wanted. I realize this may just be a personnel issue, but if this is the kind of atmosphere Pulse teachers enforce, then Im not going back.

Pulse Beauty Academy is a cosmetology school that provide the education required for a student to obtain a license to become a salon professional. People from the general public are invited to come in and have their hair done by our students at deeply discounted prices; this is how our students are able to practice the technical part of their education while they are in school. Sadly, some people harshly judge our students on how long their service took or how their hair didnt turn out exactly like the picture they brought in and choose to rate their experience by comparing a student to a salon professional who has been doing hair for years. Pulse Beauty Academy is a nationally recognized, award-winning school with a ever expanding community of successful graduates with careers in film, fashion, salon ownership, makeup artistry, education, and more. The Future Professionals enrolled in our program are ambitious, hard-working, creative risk takers who pour their hearts and souls into what they do every day with guests who follow them after they graduate to the salons where they work. We are proud of the work they do and always cognizant of the fact that they are students, learning, in a school. Though our goal as a school is to provide an exceptional educational experience for our Future Professionals and our guests every day, John F. Kennedy once said, "You cant please all of the people all of the time." And nowhere is this clearer than on any review page.

I had the best experience when I attend school back in 2013, and graduated in 2014. The staff were so helpful and understanding when I had a family emergency. The learning leaders were always helpful, ready to answer questions, and were there every step of the way when it came to clients! The school was filled with such positive energy and I graduated feeling confident in my career! Pulse sets you up to succeed in your career, making sure you are ready and confident for State Boards. After Graduation the schools Facebook page helped me find many salons in the area to work at as well. Shortly after graduating I had the privilege of coming back to work at the service desk area for a couple of months until I landed a job at a salon. After 2 years of being in a Salon Im so glad that I went to the right school. To this day I am a hair stylist and makeup artist for a salon in New Holland and I am also back working at the school!

I have come here to get my hair done 10+ times and most times have been really great and the results have been exactly what I wanted. During my most recent visit, I went for a partial highlight. The girl who did my hair seemed like she had no idea what she was doing and my highlights turned out terrible!! I had three chunky 1/4 inch highlights on each side of my head when usually I get thin pieces that blend well. I didnt say anything like that in the beginning because I just assumed that every student was being taught to do it that way. My mistake. Instead I looked like a zebra with all the stripes on my head. Even the instructor thought it was okay. Highly disappointed and not going back again. But I guess thats what you get for going to people who arent professionals yet.
