I am writing this review after several unhappy visits to this shop. This has to stop!! I am very disappointed. We have known Dennis, the owner, since he first started in the 80s. He was a good honest mechanic at that point in time, however it seems over time money has changed the operations of this shop. We brought our Taurus here because our other mechanic was unable to work on it due to summer vacations and we needed the vehicle by a certain date, so we went to Gutheriesville Tire and Service. We were told we needed brakes for inspection. No problem since we knew we needed the brakes because they were squeaking and making a grinding noise. We also were leaving for vacation in a few days to NC so we wanted to be safe. Well, not even two months later, $900, and less than 1000 miles, the brakes were grinding again. This was at the end of June. Well, last week we had to take the car to our regular mechanic and we needed brakes again. Why after 4 months did we need brakes again. The warning I am going to give others who use this shop is to ask to see things prior to approval if possible but at the very least, ask for your parts back when you pick up the vehicle. I would go into more detail with other cars but really there is no need. I will not return to this location. Please be aware and ask to see things and for your parts back. It is the law that shops keep your parts for atleast 24 hours.

With one poor review, I had a bit of concern about purchasing tires. I stopped in person and talked to George who gave me a very professional review of the tires available for my truck. I made an appointment a couple of days later by phone. I arrived a bit early and George had everything ready. There is a nice spot to sit and read the current paper and other literature. A bit later the owner Dennis came out and took me back to show me a seal leak on my rear and to show me that I would need new rear brakes for state inspection. At no point did anyone try to hard sell me. I was treated like family. The owners wife Renee also came out to talk a bit and thank me for my business. George can be a bit entertaining so the time passed quickly. All in all an outstanding experience and I intend to do all my tire business with these folks going forward.

Today was the first time I tried Guthriesville Tire & Service and I was really pleased with my experience. I had installed three snow tires on my car and needed to have the fourth mounted. Based on the July 2008 review I called ahead and confirmed that the shop could squeeze me in. Once the work was finished the mechanic gave me some tips on the proper torque to use and even took a minute to show me how to install those cheap plastic hub caps without cracking them (I had already cracked a couple of them on my own). I would definitely go there again.

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!! The owner made an appointment with me to put on 4 new tires, at 4:30 PM. I showed up on time, and he said "I should have called you back. I cant fit you in". I told him that I left work early and drove like a maniac to get there and he said, "Sorry, I cant be open more than 12 hours, and if I take you, I wont be able to close until 6:30 or 7:00., How about tomorrow?". I said "No, Ill go somewhere else to buy tires", and then he said "Well you dont have to be an A**Hole about it!"

Ive had three or four cars serviced here over the past 7 years or so. Absolutely no complaints. Sure, its cheaper to fix it yourself and parts are not cheap for an import vehicle (are they for any car these days?), but service and communication has always been very good.
