First I would like to start off asking if anyone has a customer service number to call for LA Fitness overall not just specifically this one in the Andorra shopping center, because I feel as if they will not deal with my issues the way they should be dealt with. A friend of mine is a member here and put my name on a list to be called and have sign up for a low fee. When she was told about this she swore that they said it was $20 a month. So I thought that was a great idea and decided to go in and speak to a sales person. While there they werent sure why she may have been told $20 but were still willing to tell me all the other deals that they had. Two in particular were: pay up front for a year for $20 a month and another one (which I needed to keep between him and I, which I can only imagine how many people he said that to that day) was pay for 2 months $29.99 and get one month free. After the third month Id have to go back to him and they "would see what they could do." After being a little ticked off that I wasnt getting what I was initially told I was not interested in signing up anymore so I went on my way. My Fiance and I talked about our finances and thought it would be ok to sign up even doing the pay for a year straight up front. So I went in today with the thoughts of paying $240 for a full year. When I got there they went through the deals again (same guy), and when I mentioned about the year he asked me to wait for another guy to come and talk to. When I repeated the information about the full year deal he said "what friend told you that?" I said "no friend told me that, you told me that." He then had the nerve to tell me that he would have never said anything like that to anyone. At that point I had enough and just thought to myself I needed to talk to someone in the LA Fitness coporate world so they could reevaulate their employees. I told my friend that I wish that conversations like these could be recorded because why would I come in there making something up like the paying one full year for $240. In the end I joined paying $29.99 a month. I had no walk through of the gym, no overview of what classes were offered, no idea they had a basketball court until I went on the website as I was looking for a number to call. O and I think I may have saw a smoothie bar or snack area, but who knows because he didnt tell me anything. Since I joined my friends account is she being charged for me or does it come off of whatever card I gave them to pay my first/last/initiation fee? All these questions that should have been answered without me asking. I hope to have a good experience while I am at the gym when I start going tomorrow.

Short story - their outrageous hassles for canceling the membership made signing up with them not worth it. I had a month-to-month membership that I wasnt using, partly because every time I went, one of the trainers would obnoxiously come up to me and others during our workout to pressure us to sign up for a session. So eventually I decided to cancel my membership. It was Kafkaesque. I called the gym to cancel. They gave me two options: come in person to pick up a form that I would then have to snail mail, or get the form online. So I created an account and as soon as I logged into it, the menu option for canceling a membership disappeared. The only contact phone number on the website is back to the local gym, who said I had to come in for the form. The 800-number I got from correspondence gave me an option for member services that didnt work. The local gym couldnt give me any other phone number. Once there, I talked to the manager, Ted, and let him hear on speaker phone that the member services option didnt connect to anything. He dialed a number which let me talk to a woman who wouldnt tell me what number to call to talk to member services in case I needed it in the future. First she told me I had to mail in the form; I said that wouldnt work since I wanted to cancel my membership immediately. Then she told me that doing it over the phone would take 5 days to process, and since it was the 23rd and the next billing was the 28th, I would have to pay the next months fee; I told her I would notify my credit card company to reject any charges. Several times she would say "yes" or "OK" not in response to me. Then finally she said I should talk to Brian, who was at the other end of the reception desk. It turned out that she had been having a simultaneous conversation with him while he was listening in on our phone call! Creepy! So I walked around the desk and Brian cancelled my membership, effective immediately, easy as pie. Im disgusted with the whole outfit. And the gym? There are no towels, the classes were often overfilled, and I often had to wait for equipment.

Since 2008 or 2009 (Ive joined, cancelled, & rejoined so many times since 2004 I cant remember) all you have to do is click that you want to cancel, print & mail out the form to confirm your online selection and thats it. You get 30 days from the date youve cancelled to continue using the gym and then youre account is closed. As for the gym, its okay. I cant think of any gym (and Ive joined and cancelled with MANY) that I go to and go, "Yes, Halleluyah, the gym!"... I make sure NOT to go during prime/rush time. Gym is clean. Im into weights, plenty of variety and minimal to no wait time. Classes fill up, just dont be a procrastinator and then whine that you couldnt get in.. come earlier or do something else. The cardio equipment/area is my least favorite. But then, I hate cardio equipment. Atmosphere of the club is not very sociable. People come, work out, they leave. The staff are very polite but I wouldnt classify them as "friendly"... professional. Uh, what else? ... plenty of parking (except prime time hours).. even then, you will get a spot, but youll have to walk (which, if you are going to the gym, not sure why this would be a deal breaker). Shares a huge plaza with Acme, Applebees, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and several other spots. I like it. No complaints. Pool is small... REALLY small... but I usually only swim on Sundays so hasnt been an issue. But something to note. As for the theft mentioned in the previous review, that sucks. I would be so upset. I use those mini lockers myself. .. still, I wouldnt expect the gym to be able to do anything about that, but I would demand they check and fix any broken lockers so it doesnt happen to anyone else.

I just joined this gym yesterday after looking at a few of the gyms in the area, and although this gym was the most expensive (Ill be spending $560 a year instead of less than $200 at Superfit), I think its worth it. PROS: 1. Its VERY well lit, and cheery inside. I think its important that you feel uplifted when you work out, and light is very important in that equation. 2. The machines are in great condition, and there are many. 3. The classes are also numerous and varied. I just took an Aqua Fit class, which I really enjoyed, and the Latin Impact class is also fun. 4. The people who come here are of varying types and weights. Not everyone is a hard body, which is nice if youre not one, too. There are old and young, fat and skinny. Its a good feeling, especially if you have gym-insecurity. And the people who work here are super nice. CONS: 1. It is expensive, but i guess you do get what you pay for. Like I said, I looked around at the other gyms in the vicinity, and this was the gym that offered the most, and had the nicest facilities. 2. Parking isnt perfect: this is in a shopping center, next to an Acme store. Sometimes, you do have to go early, if youre taking a class, in case you cant get parking right away. The after-work crowd is the greatest. Anything before 4 should be fine. 3. The free 1 hour with a trainer was a bit of a joke. My trainer wanted to show me how to do sit ups. Im sorry, but Im not paying close to $600 to do something I can just do at home, thanks.
