The only reason Im giving this place 3 stars is because my father had a positive experience here, and the guy who cut my hair didnt screw it up. That being said, I wouldnt go back and pay $30 for another haircut. Thats pretty pricey for a basic mens cut, but I had a $10 gift card and from the description online it sounded like a cool, old school barber shop with a modern twist. Plus, I heard they do "whiskey Fridays", so I was psyched to try it out. Unfortunately, I didnt experience any of that. I rushed over from work on Friday and walked in just in time for my appointment. I was the only client there at the time, so I was taken right to the barber chair (no mention/offer of whiskey). The barber asked what I wanted and I told him to leave the length on the top, just clean it up, and a 2 fade on the sides. Pretty basic. He says okay, and starts cutting. About 5 minutes go by and were still just sitting there in silence, and all of the 4 people working there just kind of give off the vibe that they dont want to be there. To try and start up some conversation, I say "This is a cool little spot you guys got here". Barber responds, "Yeah thanks. First time here?" ..."Yeah first time. My dad came here and liked it so i figured Id try it out". ...then just silence again. Now I dont know what "old school" barber shops youd walk into and just sit in silence. Any old school barber shop Ive ever gone in, its a little more lively. You talk sports, you talk family, you joke around, you feel welcome. I didnt really get that, and I kind of just felt like these guys wanted to get me in and out so they could go home. Adding to that, I was sitting in the barber chair for all of about 15 minutes and the guy goes to clean up my neck. He didnt even pull down the neck of my shirt to get the little bit of hair sitting below my neck line. I had to do it in the mirror when I got home. I got up when it was all done, and I didnt even bother asking about the whiskey, because honestly, I didnt feel like sitting around with a bunch of strangers who seemingly didnt care for me being there. I dont even know why I tipped the guy. Bottom line, if I didnt have the $10 gift card and had to pay the full amount, I wouldnt have been happy. Maybe I just came in at the end of a bad day or maybe I expected too much, but in my opinion, if youre going to charge above average prices for your services, you should provide above average service. I get that its a more affluent section of town, but for perspective, I usually go to an old dude right over in Ambler and get that same exact hair cut for $20. Like I said, I was given a decent hair cut, but there was nothing else worth noting, so I will probably not be returning. Gimmicks might get people in the door, but its doing the little things right that get them to come back.

My overall experience with Duke Barber Company located in Chestnut Hill was below average. First, I submitted an online appointment for a full service haircut, but did not receive any confirmation. I needed up called and made an appointment instead. Offering an online appointment service is great, but not following up with a customer disappointed me. Second, the barber, Sean or Shawn, did not have much of barber. He cut my hair no better than my barber who only charges me $20 for a full service haircut - 30 mins. Sean spent total of 15 minutes to cut my hair. During that 15 minutes he cut my hair, he asked the receptionist to pick up some beers and double park to unload beers. On top of that, he took two personal calls and of course he had to stop cutting my hair. I paid $32 for a average or rather lousy hair cut from someone who does not seem to care about his customer. The entire service I receive at Duke Barber Company was lousy compare to the money spent. I wanted to check out the barber shop and experience. Any barber can cut hair. The reason I go barber is because of the experience and the service. This place wanna have a character, but it just does not have it. The online appointment does not seem to work or they dont check it, Sean, the barber, is simply a lousy barber or rather arrogant individual. Oh, they tried to be somewhat trendy by selling some cigars out of a jar for $15 a stick.

While visiting PA 3 weeks ago, we convinced our 15 years old soon to get a haircut, so we stopped at this place based on website reviews. Someone inexperienced was assigned to my son. This person didnt even know how to handle his curly hair. It took her 2 hours to finish with the help of 2 others experienced barbers . After all, not satisfied with the results at all. On top of wasting 2 hours of our time and a sloppy haircut, they charged me $33.00 for a haircut I usually pay $15 in NJ. I dont mind inexperience because we all get there, but you cant waste peoples time like that. The experienced barbers should have taken over after the first hour...and the worse, my son was completely unhappy with the results. The hair cut style he picked did not look the same as the pictured we showed them at the beginning. Very frustrating and disappointing experience!

I moved to the area a year ago and continued to see my old barber which was way out of my way because Im always afraid of switching barbers when I find a good one. Theyve made this a very easy decision. The staff is very friendly, very professional, and of course the quality of the cut and beard care I received was fantastic. They are admittedly more expensive than my previous barber but theyre also definitively better. I will have no problem continuing to go there and make this my new barber of choice. Keep doing what youre doing and Ill keep coming back. Would definitely recommend.

Walked in with an overgrown beard/mustache, looking for subtle alterations. The results exceeded my expectations. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonable prices. Ask for Henry.

I went in looking for a haircut and beard trim. I was very happy with the service and value. Plus my wife loved how my beard was shaped. Ask for Larry.

Not a barber shop as you need an appointment (yet they do not answer the phone) and they charge salon prices. Go somewhere else.

I like the old-fashioned decorations. But the barbers dont sweep the floor between cuts, so the place is messy.
