Fitness Factory is an affordable gym, tucked away in ritzy Shadyside, with a unique approach to personal fitness. Ive been to many gyms in the past, and no other gym has made me feel so personally motivated to better myself. From the moment you step through through those double doors, you think "this is the place I want to be." From the music choice to the wide array of equipment to the helpful and engaging staff members, this place is unmatched. The facility is spotless. It is very rare that you should find a stray spill or sweat stain, and the staff is receptive to comments about broken equipment. Mike understands that while it costs money to get yourself in great shape, you dont need to go broke doing it. The prices may be on par with big gyms like LAF or Equinox, but he makes it easy for you to maintain membership. Hes established payment plans that make paying-off long-term memberships seem like a simple feat. While I dont have an after-hours pass -- which requires an easy, one-time payment of $50 per membership charge -- I imagine that those working in serving or hospitality industries find it invaluable. Other gyms arent so lenient; it is clear that Mike takes immense pride in his business and is eager to share it with the community. Mike makes a point to offer his members an experience that makes "going to the gym" feel less like a mechanic act. At the front desk, there is a variety of nutritional and performance supplements -- with an array of brands, mind you; its great to see that he doesnt stick to just one -- that help you improve every aspect of your physical fitness, regardless of the season. Not only that, he goes out of his way to move around and introduce new equipment so working out is more of an organic process. I find myself constantly thinking on my feet, which has immensely benefitted my routine. The variety of the equipment he offers, which ranges between cardio machines, both low and heavy free weights, lifting machines, kettlebells, and *several* squat racks is nothing short of impressive. Also, the music, DEAR GOD, the music. Amazing. Despite this gym first appearing high-end or exclusive, Mike has done his homework! Hes created an aptly-named FITNESS FACTORY that is all-inclusive AND affordable. I imagine myself staying here for a long time.

Having previously worked for the LA Fitness brand, I know how difficult it is to keep a gym clean and well maintained. Mike and his team do just that- rarely do you find stray equipment, spills, or messes on the lifting floor. The cardio machines are well looked after and always clean thanks to the abundance of disinfectant spray and towels around the gym. New equipment pops up at random intervals and just proves that Mike takes pride in his business, but also cares about the members comments, requests, and well-being. Membership prices per month are on par with other big box gyms in the area, but if you can drop the cash to pay for an extended period of time (6 mons, 1 yr, or 2 yrs), the savings really add up. They also are willing to work out a payment plan on these larger amounts to help fit your budget. There is a 24hr option which, working in the hotel and restaurant industry, was a life saver. I never had to worry about not getting a workout in and could use the late night access to burn off work stress before I went home. The staff is very personable, friendly for the most part, and the other members this gym draws are also very kind. Its not often at LA Fitness or Urban Active that fellow members come up and offer a spot on a lift out of the blue. Everyone is very respectful of one another and always asks about whos using equipment (except for a few, who will ultimately run into issues down the road Im sure). All in all, anyone who has asked me about Fitness Factory has received two thumbs up from me and a high recommendation. Anyone looking for a solid, locally owned option to burn calories and get in shape should check this gym out.

I really like working out at the Fitness Factory. Why? To start they have a great balance and variety of cardio machines, weight machines and free weights. So whatever your goals are they have the equipment for you. Another reason I like going there is because its in a nice neighborhood with a younger demographic. On warm nights its pretty active as there are nice restaurants nearby so it adds a positive vibe. One of the biggest positives about this gym is the 24/7 access pass. It costs only about $35 a year and you can literally go whenever you want; middle of the night, on holidays or whatever. Really helpful if you have a hectic schedule. The clientele of the gym tends to be on the younger side, 20-30 range. Which is nice and kinda motivates you to keep at it. The staff is pretty cool. When I first started there they allowed me to pay my membership over a three month span, which was really cool of them. I believe its a family run business and you can feel that...much different than the Ballys of the world. They keep the gym very clean and updated too. Theres plenty of big screens to watch while you running etc. So, Ive been working out there for a year now and plan on renewing my membership. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get or stay in shape in a nice neighborhood and good environment.

I started FF in October of 2014, despite moving from Fox chapel to greentree I still go 5 to 6 days a week, for the reasons following. FF offers a real gym experience no fluff with Bs classes, the do have personal training available and the trainers Ive seen are really great and involved in their clients. There is something for everyone here , tons of cardio and lots of real iron. You will see some of the fittest people in pgh here and for good reason.. real gyms = real results. I found no one here really has an ego, you can approach alot of people and ask questions if you are unsure of what to do. This gym attracts people who exercise because of passion and not for an IG pic. The owner Mike is a nice guy, he took time to introduce himself to me and shake my hand. He works for your business and treats his staff well. The decor is older but thats the charm, and I beg you to find a cleaner gym the staff is always cleaning when the front counter isnt busy. Ive enjoyed my time here and will continue my membership for years to come.

My wife and I moved to Pittsburgh a couple months ago. We were looking for a gym that was close and had enough cardio equipment so we would not have to wait during peak times. We were pleasantly surprised to find this gym right across the street from our place. I cant say enough of how pleased we are with our decision to join here. The monthly rate (when buying a whole year) is very reasonable, the gym/equipment is extremely well maintained and very clean, the staff is always willing to answer questions, we never have issues getting on the machines we want to use, and the overall vibe of the gym is great. This is a neighborhood gym and you can tell that many of the members know each other from the greetings exchanged, the spots that are offered, etc. On top of that, you can buy 24/7 access, which was a huge selling point for us. Overall, we are very happy with our decision to join. Thanks Fitness Factory.
