Online Public Storage claims a $1 first month special. When I called this was true, then they advised there was a $24 + taxes processing. Ok still a good deal. So I requested the unit. They mentioned on the phone that I would need to provide my own lock. Easy enough, I had several. When I arrived to sign the papers however, I was told I need a special kind of lock. One that could not be cut with bolt cutters. They of course, offered to sell me one fro $20. I am certain I could have got a cheaper price elsewhere, but the time and expense of the drive would have cancelled any savings. A bit aggravating as it should be MY responsibility to safe guard my belonging, not theirs! And why could I not have been told that over the phone? A bit disgruntled at the underhanded manner in which this was done to snag a bit more money from unknowing customers. Then I was informed about insurance. It is a requirement for renting. It is only insurance on my belongings in the unit. And the minimum purchase is $5000 of coverage for $11 per month. Again, isnt it my responsibility to ensure my goods are adequately protected with a suitable lock and insurance, IF WARRANTED? Why wasnt this communicated over the phone? Really disgruntled at this point, but recognizing the delay and added time and cost of researching other storage providers, I accepted the cost. But, now I am convinced Public Storage has taken this approach just to screw their customers out of a little more money. I am only renting for 1 month now, so they wont be making money on me. Ill get the first month at 50% and then find another provider. Even if that provider has the same renting requirements, I will at least know that up front. Wont be staying with Public Storage. Wont recommend Public Storage. Wont be doing business with Public Storage again. Public Storage: You want my business and recommendation again. Refund me my lock purchase and let me use my own and refund my insurance. Quit trying to quitely screw your customers.

Just wanted to share the horrible experience Ive had with Public Storage on Gallatin Rd. Ive been renting a "climate controlled" unit from them since April. I wanted ground floor because I have a bad back and cannot carry heavy stuff up and down the stairs. I was told climate control units were only upstairs, but that they have an elevator. Every time I have been there this summer, the "climate control" section has been hotter than outdoors, even during the hottest days when we were in triple digit temps!!! Im usually there in the evenings after their office closes, so had called each time and left messages about it, but never got any replies. Yet, they still deducted the monthly rent every month like clock work. Then, at the beginning of this month, I got an email advising that they were raising their rates effective Sep 1. So, today, I went to clean out my unit and AGAIN it was hotter than blazes in the unit. And, they had the elevator turned off, so I had to haul all of my stuff down the stairs. When I went into the office to close out my account, I told the woman all of my issues and she said nothing, no apologies, no explanations, nothing. When I asked her to explain about the unit always being hot when I purposely paid extra for a climate controlled unit, she said that climate control didnt mean air conditioned, it just means they keep it above or below a certain temperature. When I asked what that temperature was, she again didnt answer. That is completely unacceptable. So, if youre considering storage facilities, do not use this place. And, if you are storing stuff there in a "climate control" unit and have temperature sensitive items in it, you should check on them, because they basically are charging extra for NOTHING! Id give them an absolute ZERO star rating!

Misty was very friendly and helpful. She went above and beyond. I have since had two other encounters with a very rude man and a woman named Lisa or Leslie...these two have the worst customer service ever. They dont care about customers or hardships. I completely understand a rule is a rule but they need to have tact when telling a customer that everyone due date is the first even though customer gets disability check on the 18th...rule rude to say well you will always have a late fee! Also the rate going up should have given better notification. Sending a letter to my old address that did not get forwarded me isnt good enough when they want their money they call and email...then the chick tells well I can print it for you but you not receiving it changes nothing it still went up was real unprofessional! I am getting a uhaul and changing companies ASAP even if it cost more I would gladly pay for good customer service. 2 stars go to Misty when I first signed up in march these other folks cs is horrible!

I showed up with 7 other people in the morning, and after waiting 45mins after the store was to open we all left and had to come back. I had two men that I hired to help me unload the truck "on the clock" and the store front was not even open! After we all waited for them, we all just left. After calling the office around noon I was told that they had a district meeting.... What company plans a district meeting knowing that the office is suppose to open @ 9:30am? Sounds a little fishy to me. I still rented the storage unit, because of the good price. And when I finally met the lady in the office later that day she was extremely nice and to be honest is the reason they saved my business.

Staff are friendly and efficient and willing to assist where they can, however, the gate to the storage units is perpetually out of order, standing wide open for anyone to enter. We had a problem with roof leakage too but the ladies in the office had it fixed in no time. We were also given a rude awakening when even before our six month rental we were told there would be an increase in the monthly rate, making the unit more expensive than their competitors. After we complained the rate has been dropped to the original price.

Be careful with the "first month $1" promotion." If you get a 5x5 unit you HAVE to buy the special tumbler lock that is manufactured by "public storage" for these units. It is the CHEAPEST lock i have ever seen, I can pick it in 3 seconds or less. The kicker is .. it cost $18... yes $18 for a toy lock. Very disappointing and I dont feel all that secure there. Can not put any other lock on these units and can not buy a better lock anywhere else.

We searched several storage businesses and found Public Storage to be the lowest price. Our contact, Nadia, was very thorough, professional and the most personable person we spoke to throughout our search. She actually made the entire experience a most pleasant one. We felt like wed known her for a long time within a few minutes of meeting her. I would highly recommend this particular Public Storage facility at this time.
