If the stylist I had a 9am appointment with this morning was my employee, she would be fired. When a client, especially a new client, books an appointment with you, it would be expected that you are at work and ready to work at the agreed upon time. Not sauntering into work 5 minutes after the appointment time with an arm full of stuff and looking angry at the world. With my first point of contact with the receptionist I was lied to. I was told that she would let my stylist know I was there and she would be right with me. She then left the desk and returned, as if she was letting this person know. Only 10 minutes later when I questioned the wait did she inform me that the person was not there. As I sat waiting I began evaluating the salon. 1. Having clients with their hair being colored sitting in the waiting area is extremely unprofessional. When my hair is all crazy I dont want to be sitting in the general public area in my unattractive robe. 2. Having employees hang out at the front desk chatting away is also very unprofessional. There were 4 people with nothing to do but kill time. That says you have no cliental and now I understand why. 3. Walking through tons of product shelves upon entering says "we will be pushing products on you heavily after your appointment." I felt like I had walked into a Sallys Beauty Store. Very tacky and not at all what I was expecting. I walked out. I dont have 15 minutes to allow someone to get to work, take care of putting their arm full of stuff away and get prepared to cut my hair. Coupled with the angry demeanor, no way she was touching my hair.

When I moved to Nashville from New York a few years ago Id started going to a different stylist here and after being disappointed twice by her not understanding what kind of cut Id wanted, I tried Emily on the recommendation of a friend. Long story short, Ive been getting my haircut by Emily since, I only go back to Emily. She is incredibly skilled and has an extensive resume yet SO down to earth and has ZERO pretentiousness. It IS possible to get a great cut in a warm and comfortable atmosphere and not have to settle for questionable talent. Emily will give you what you are looking for, provide you with advice if you dont know what you want, or give you the same look over and over again without sounding bored and leave you as pleased as you were on your first visit. I love the the hands on attention you get from start to finish. Emily is worth EVERY penny (and for this level of talent, it’s not that many pennies).

Emily is honestly terrible. I went to her based on the great reviews written here, but in retrospect I think these reviews may be left by either friends or relatives. She has absolutely no idea what she is doing when it comes to curly hair. I asked for a trim and she took it upon herself to razor my ends leaving them scraggly and thin. She put a lot of product in my hair and styled it so I didnt realize the full extent of the terrible haircut until I washed it out the next day. No amount of product or straightening and fix the choppy, uneven layers (there are pieces in the bottom that are longer than others). I cant remember the last time I had such a bad haircut for $50. I would not go back to her. Elan overall is a nice salon (the lady who used to cut my hair there apparently left), but I would not trust these reviews about Emily.

Julia is Awesome! I went yesterday to Elan for highlights and a cut. I was alittle nervous because the color was way more blonde than I had ever had before. I showed Julia the pictures of the color and hair cut I wanted. The cut is beautiful and I am totally in love with my highlights. She explained everything to me about the color, stripped out the color I had put in my hair, took her time (was there for over 3 hours) and gave me the exact cut I wanted. She even showed me how to fix my bangs that are growing out. The salon also has been redone and it looks so nice! It was very relaxing. It was an overall wonderful experience from the receptionists to the stylist. I cant wait to come back to get more highlights! Thank you Julia for giving me the best hair ever!!!!!

Caitlin does an astounding job with mens haircuts. Ill be honest Im usually hungover from the night before when I arrive, I can barely keep up a conversation, let alone communicate the type of haircut Im wanting. With Caitlin, its NEVER been a problem. She possesses a unique sense of intuition when it comes to us guys. Ive been to several different people both in Chicago and Nashville throughout the years, but can wholeheartedly say I will never go to anyone else. In fact, every close friend of mine now goes to her exclusively. Not only do you get a great haircut, but youre welcomed with an great attitude and hilarious banter. The staff at Elan is also top-notch with friendly service and an exceptional undercurrent.

Ive had my share of bad haircuts/colors, but Mark worked with me to come up with the right style/color, was NOT pushy, listened to be, and was as nice as can be! I have dyed brown hair and needed to go back to a dark color but still wanted some dimension....i hate how highlights would be so high maintenance. To keep it low maintenance, he suggested we leave some of my hair alone and use that as "highlights." it turned out wonderfully! it was subtle enough for my professional needs, and made my hair look great! The cut was wonderful and he took the time to fine tune it and add some great texture. An absolute sweetheart to boot, and I will DEFINITELY be going back :D

Very disappointing haircut by Suzanne who was supposed to be a senior hairstylist there. I went seeing all the good reviews and it looked like a nice place but my haircut did not turn out very well. I only realized later that all the good reviews about this place are few years back. Most of the recent reviews are bad. I informed when I was making an appointment that I have very long hair, in spite of informing them, my hair stylist was booked only for an hour and after that there was another customer waiting in the line. So she ended up doing my hair cut in a hurry. I never expected this out of this place and for what they have charged me!!!

I had my hair highlighted there. The girl that did the highlights seemed fine. However, she told an assistant to leave me under the dryer for 10 min. 25 min later they took the dryer off to shampoo me, and didnt mention that a significant portion of my hair fried off. I had a halo of one inch hair stubs around my head. I found out later that they also burned off so much of my friends hair that she had to get extensions. When she cried and asked them how it could be fixed, they said they would charge her for that session and then again to fix it. Beware.
