Not the best, but not the worst LA Fitness I have visited - and I have been to LA Fitness centers all over the country, from several in California, to Texas and Virginia. The main complaint I have had at several of these centers (including this particular one) is the odor of the places in general, and the odor of the mens locker room, specifically. The remedy - Replace the carpeting (the biggest odor retainer) with a non-odor absorbing surface material and then adhere to a frequent and thorough cleaning schedule. Also - redouble efforts to keep the grout from getting moldy in the showers, or better yet, replace the tile with antimicrobial, composite plastic enclosures that are easier to keep clean and odor free. The odor-free LA Fitness centers I have been to have taking these steps. Finally, regarding the SAUNA - How about enforcing (or at least posting) appropriate sanitary and politeness policies. Typically (and internationally) you bathe before entering a sauna, wear a towel or swimsuit, and carry nothing into the sauna that might disturb other sauna users. But not at LA Fitness. More often than not people who have been working out (or are getting ready to) come into the sauna unwashed, fully clothed and wearing outdoor shoes, with their personal music devices bleeding sound into the otherwise quiet space that the sauna is meant to be. At one LA Fitness in San Diego, I stepped on a sheetrock screw (and picked up three more off the floor) as I was leaving the sauna. Obviously, someone straight off the street came into the sauna in their work clothes. LA Fitness could do better.

Pros: You can talk then it off the $100 initiation fee by simply asking. Cons: Cleanliness: Gym lacks sterile wipes. They expect you to use the crummy hand towels from the dispenser, get them wet at the water fountain, and then put the foamy hand soap on it. The wipes are the cheapest on the market. This leads to very unclean equipment. I dont understand why they dont have alcohol wipes ready to use, or spray bottles with cloth towels to wipe equipment with. I go in the morning and IMO the staff cleans up well over night, so visable dirt(etc) is not present. Weights: There is almost no floor space for free weight movements. The rooms are jam packed with all kinds of benchs, equipment and the like. There needs to be a ~15x15 foot area to work free weights. Very disappointed. They also do not have free bars. All bars belong to a bench or machine. If you take a bar to just lift with, you disable the machine you took it off of. Dumbbells galore, zero kettle bells. Very few medicine balls and they arent even heavy. The heaviest medicine ball I could find was 10 lbs. I personally have yet to have an issue with a staff member as other reviews stated. I wouldnt even bother with the app. Galaxy S4, app is completely disfunctional.

BEWARE!!!! I Joined LA fitness in May 2016 signed a 12 month contract for personal training. MY Contract should have ended May 1, 2017...RIGHT?!!! WRONG... La Fitness Continues to CHARGE MY CARD AFTER I REPEATEDLY ASKED ON 4 OCCASIONS TO STOP CHARGING ME. Verbally they said I would no longer be charged after I shared with them that my contact ended May 1 2016. I called head office .They informed me that I was informed incorrectly by Staff Members...they are now saying after my contract ended & I HAD FULFILLED BY CONTACT I was supposed to SEND a CERTIFIED LETTER STATING to the CORPORATE OFFICE STATING I NO LONGER WANTED TRAINING & wished to cancel SERIOUSLY?!!?!! THE CONTACT ENDED... BEWARE there is fine print they HIDE that explains such. LA FITNESS SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED AND ASHAMED FOR SUCH UNETHICAL PRACTICES. IM IN BUSINESS MYSELF. I BELIEVE IN UPFRONT AND HONEST BUSINESS. I HAVE YET TO FIND ONE HONEST PERSON WHO WILL SPEAK ON BEHALF OF LA FITNESS TO HELP ME FIX THIS ISSUE. I DID INFORM MY BANK...SAD TO SAY, MY BANK SAID THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH LA FITNESS AND THEIR HORRIBLE BUSINESS OPERATIONS. BE WARE!!!! When you cancel have them sign a note confirming your verbal communication. #DisgustedPastGymMember

Its cleaner than most 24 Hour gyms where I used to go, but not by much. There are a decent number of machines and most work. If you go around 4:30 to 6ish though, be prepared to wait for everything. Locker rooms could be cleaner, they usually smell pretty funky. Yeah, its gym, but Lifetime locker rooms are cleaner and smell a lot better. The pool is okay and they have a hot tub and dry steam room. I wish they had a wet steam room. The management needs to enforce everyone carrying a sweat towel to wipe machines after they are done. Some of them get so slimy I wont even use MY towel to wipe them off. That is a manners issue, poor day to day management, and lack of proper introduction for new members. They have wifi, but you have to listen to a commercial first, and it is not always easy to connect for some reason. Non-existent guest policy so too bad if you have friends in from out of town. My SOI quit and went back to Lifetime even though she has to drive a long way. Ill stay for now because it is a convenient location (main reason) and the price is okay for what you get vs elsewhere. The place has potential.

This place is intimidating. Seems meant more for big buff guys then an overweight woman starting out. i.e. me. The man that helped me sign up was very nice, and so was the trainer I got for my intro health assessment. Until he found out I wasnt even remotely interested in further sessions. He wouldnt answer more questions I had and was overly pushy about that extra $55 a week for the 1 on 1 session with him. The equipment is outdated and rusted, except for the personal training equipment. Of course. It smells, and of course any gym smells, but I believe the people working out here dont clean the equipment after they use it. Pros: they have a pool, which is the whole reason i signed up here. And the people that swim seem like a totally different crowd than the ones using machines. I also like the mini lockers you can use for just your keys and wallet, and the locker room itself is very nice. They also have a juice bar, but i havent tried it yet.

This place business practices are so deceptive and full of lies; recently I join to a training program sessions with big differences between verbal offers and contract offers, the contract is full of limitations and no way to escape of them once you sign it. This location never print signed paper contracts at the location neither send the contracts by email. They allowed join people with a personal trainer without mentioning the contract limitations on front, like ending the period of the training program, remaining classes, and appointments with master or regular trainers. Their business practices are focus on “not to say or advice the client at all”, only they focus on “please paid you dues”. The store manager does not care about your questions or concerns and THERE IS NOT HELP AT ALL. “IT IS WHAT IT IS AND NOTHING TO DO” AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS NOT EXISTANCE ON THIS CORPORATION AT ALL.

I decided to to cancel my membership. After calling the store to ask how to cancel the membership. They said I had to come in when the operations manager, Kristen, was working, and she was out until the following Monday (a week away). She was completely rude and unprofessional. I did contact corporate after that experience, and they apologized on her behalf. Her behavior reflects on LA Fitness as a company, and she should have just said "thank you for your business, we are sorry to see you go and if you decide to come back..." Instead, Kristen used this as a reason to be abusive to customers. No excuse. She should not be an operations manager, seriously. I was not angry when walking into the store, but I was furious when I left. Even though corporate was great, I doubt I will ever give LA Fitness another dime.
