I wrote this while my soul was being destroyed attending Aveda Dallas. I just now decided to let people know as they threatened my license and financial contribution for exposing our collective opinions of their charade they call a prestigious school. They promise you education. You will be trapped into the worst unpaid, disrespectful, heartless and snobby job youve ever held. You will be surprised how much more time youll be spending to "raise them money" than getting the education youve already paid about $13,000 for. I would suggest ogle if you just want to make sure you pass the state board. Or Paul Mitchell if you want to earn an education to be proud of. Attending Aveda feels like forcefully being reverted into a kindergartener entrapped in a concentration camp. Wendi (Aveda Educator)- "When you signed up for Aveda- you signed up for a retail job and just didnt know it." Today, I realized I am not alone in feeling Aveda smothering the light out of my soul. I lifelessly stood there... As if each second ticking on the clock are sharp knives harshly puncturing my skin. I glanced over to see my colleague filling a pitcher of water as a zombie in an academy award winning film. Her brain was so currently Aveda fried she searched not for a glimmer of hope to return. We consume large amounts of water throughout the day knowing it will heal our bodies. While our main intention is to cherish a few seconds in the tiny stalls of heaven escaping their so called "human interaction". This limited moment of bliss is rejuvenating by awkward deep breaths of relaxation before returning to our masters of destruction. We collect ourselves in groups to muster up the motivation to gather all of our strength to drag our feet to maneuver down the hall following instructions of the mundane sounds of our "superiors" barking at us like inmates to begin our day. We focus on giving the very best to our guests. We know its not their fault. They only come in from the high class illusion of the waterfalls and stones stuck on the wall. We conceal or bitter hearts and surrender to our professional robotic auto pilots to get us through the day. We quickly pace our tired trembling legs the long way around the dreaded maze of Aveda Institute while trembling at the possible humiliation to come from the peons who self righteously believe they are Avedas heroes- whom unfortunately have possessed no self esteem or intellectual ability to communicate sincerely. Their short man syndrome barks AT us, unknowingly damaging their own goals. Attitude and gratitude are the simplest solutions of success- yet theyre not tall enough to see it or smart enough to grab a stool to effortlessly vanish the unnecessary complexity of their incompetencies and failures. At times I feel alone in my volatile devastation. I am unsure if it makes me feel better or worse to know Im not. My back hurts so bad Im finally finished counting down the minutes... Counting down the seconds to leave the building at eagerly deteriorates my lifes purpose. Excitedly in motion to push the doors to break free I passed by a girl dropping her bag. Bobby pens and hairclips scattered all over the floor. She immediately clinched her entire body to immediately look straight up to the ceiling in complete defeat. Its another normal day, you can only laugh, things are so bad. She began to smile as her jaw began to quiver. For bending down to the floor, to gather another one of her daily mistakes- was the last straw her fragile heart could sever. This is a very expensive deception into the gateway of hell.... Welcoming you through the chilling double doors of Aveda.

I was a cosmetology student at Aveda Institute Dallas, I must say that my experience was wonderful. I was taught by truly passionate instructors who helped me through every step of the way. There is only one instructor that is unprofessional, unruly, and just mean. However, I will not rate my whole experience poorly because of one instructor. The management at Aveda Institute truly cares for the students and that they are successful upon leaving the institute. Jenn, the director of the institute has just been a blessing in my life. She has such a big heart and is perfect for her job (dealing with hundreds of girls)! Joe (the education director) is very passionate about what he does and is constantly looking for ways to better our education. Jamaica (the retail manager) is wonderful as well as passionate about our products, and teaches us everything we need to know to be able to educate our guests on the products, and make honest recommendations. They could not have chosen anyone better for the management. The year that I was a student there I learned more than expected, and was able to exercise what I learned on clients that came in. I rarely had any issues with any clients. The main complaint that I heard about the students is our time management, which is not going to be on par with regular salons. We are LEARNING new techniques for each client because no ones hair is the same. Towards the middle of our year, we go on salon tours, which was great because I am now employed at one of the most successful, as well as the trusted Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders Aveda salon with help of Jenn, our director who wrote me a wonderful recommendation letter. I would say that your experience is what you make it, if you work hard, and stay passionate about the beauty industry you will be successful at the institute. Some days are harder than others, but keep your eyes on the prize. If I could go back, I would not choose any other school. I met wonderful people, and was able get a solid educational foundation which will never stop growing as this industry is always changing. I am so truly grateful to Aveda Institute. Thank you so very much to everyone who was apart of my education.

I had family in town so my mother graciously scheduled facials and a shampoo blow dry for all 4 of us. I went with the Dual Exfoliation Peel and my mother did the 30 min Tulasara™ Facial Treatment. I CALLED Saturday the morning of to confirm all of our appointments. I was told yes everything is good for all four. An hour or so before we get to the school for our 3pm appointments they call my mom trying to cancel my appointment because my girl didnt show up so they asked to cancel and reschedule. My mother was disappointed because 1. I had called to confirm that morning, and 2. this was something special to her. They moved things around and changed my moms 60 min facial to a 30 min, gave me her lady, and gave her someone else. When we get to the school we check in, have some tea everything was back on track. After all of our services (my mom paid for) My mom came to me disappointed that her facial was HORRIBLE AND LESS THAN THE 30 MINS (time wise) THAT SHE PAID FOR. I asked her if she told the instructor when she signed her off and asked for feedback for the student. She said she was never greeted, received a skin analysis, or got signed on/off by an instructor. Im in cosmetology school (not aveda) and we HAVE to have an instructor speak to our guest, check in to make sure they are ok, sign off and insure they are satisfied with their service. In this case the student got away without doing any of the above. My mom is a very sweet woman and this was her first facial. She paid for all of our services, graciously gave up her lady and an extra 30 mins so that I could get my facial done that day. My lady Melanie was fabulous and I want the same for my mom. I would appreciate if someone would contact me to work something out for her. This is a school and this could be a great learning opportunity for the student and upcoming professional. I called the number listed online and I was told someone would contact my mother however, no one from Aveda has reached out. If you are going for a facial Melanie is on point! I rebooked for April. She followed all the steps, filled out the chart of products used, and did great work. Shes 5 stars across the board.
