Ive been visiting the YMCA here on a trial membership basis for the past week. Very nice facility. Absolutely useless receptionists at the front desk. I initially called to inquire about membership fees. That was the last concrete piece of information I got by telephone. After that initial phone call, every piece of information that I received had to be asked for directly. Volunteering additional information was apparently not a priority. On my first personal visit to the Y, I went on my own to swim. Upon signing in and letting the receptionist know that I was new there, I had to ask where the locker room was. I had to ask how to get to the pool. Once in the pool area, I had to ask which lanes I could use. The lifeguard was the friendliest person I ran into there. I then inquired about swimming for children. I was told that the cost and the days and frequency of practice would not be determined until the child tried out for swimming. I then inquired about soccer and was told that Id missed enrollment. No other mention of other sports or activities available for kids. No notice of when the next registration for any activity might be. No additional useful selling points were given. I then went to complete a cardio-weight workout and brought my son with me to get a taste of the Kidz Club (childcare area). When we arrived, I had to ask what needed to be done to have him sign into the childcare center. The receptionist merely pointed me in the direction of the room and said he would go in there while I worked out. When we entered the room, there were no other adults, but two other children. There was a clipboard that I signed him in on, and there was a cup full of numbered tags. I wasnt sure if I was supposed to wear the tag or he was supposed to wear the tag. I had to go back out and ask, and I was told the tags were optional. So.....Im going to continue to go, but I would definitely gig them for poor customer service. The facility is beautiful. There is tons of room for the cardio machines and you have a great view of the pool. The locker room is great and the amenities are more than enough. I just wish someone were more forthcoming with information.

I joined the YMCA because I needed to start swimming for exercise due to a foot injury that precluded me from doing weight-bearing exercise. Well, unless you are a child in swim lessons, a teen in the local public schools swim team, a retired person, self- or unemployed, or a stay-at-home parent, lap lanes are only available to you between the convenient hours of 5:30-7:15 a.m., or 7:15-8:45 p.m. I am none of those special demographics, so I cannot find a convenient time to swim. I have paid for the Y for the last month, three months after I joined. Unless they change their policy about reserving a lap lane for working people with children, I wont be going back. Its a nice facility, but if you cant get what you came for, why bother?

So much you can do here from calasses, to cardio machines, to swimming. They have a kids zone for parents to put children so they can work out.
