Warning - your take out order will never be ready on time. Prepare to wait, and wait, and wait. First, their online ordering system is broken and has been for years. The system says your order will be ready by X time. But it is never even close. It is always takes a minimum of 30 minutes extra to get your order. I have brought this to Café Rio’s attention many times, but they have taken no action to fix it. How hard is it to build a program that gives an accurate pickup time? Because of that, I started going to their competitor – which I used to view as a copycat but now view as a quicker, friendlier, alternative. Because of a gift card, I reluctantly gave Café Rio a try again. I ordered 1.5 hours ahead of time, thinking that there was no possible way they couldn’t have it ready in that time. Stupid me. I showed up, was told it wasn’t ready, stood around waiting with angry looking customers (there is almost nowhere to wait for your order, which is a problem when ten other customers are waiting too), and watched the time tick away. Finally, have 30 minutes of waiting (now 2 hours from the time I ordered), I politely asked the woman to check on my order. I watched as she went through all the orders in the take-out section. It was obvious that she couldn’t even find my order! She asked me for my receipt. I bit my lip and counted to ten – I could not believe I had waited 30 minutes (two hours total) in the store and they weren’t even working on my order. I requested a refund and no one even apologized. So I asked for a manager. I politely explained everything and she kept interrupting with “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” Clearly, she did not want to even hear the story. I kept my cool and politely said Café Rio had lost a customer. Her response? “I’m sorry.” My 12 year old commented on the way out that the manager didn’t even care. If it was that obvious to a 12 year old, the manager isn’t doing her job. A company that cared about its customers would have tried to make it right. I wasn’t looking for a handout. I was looking for a promise that she would at least try and address the problem for future customers. She didn’t even take the time to understand it, so how can she make it better going forward? The answer? She can’t and she doesn’t care in the slightest. The place is packed and has been for a long time. The company thinks it will be like that forever. But, when you treat customers like its employees treated me, it is only a matter of time before they go to its competitor down the street. I have and will from now on. Save your Saturday evening. Your time is much better spent doing something other than standing in Café Rio’s crowded pick-up area. Go somewhere that wants your business. You can get the same or better food a few minutes down the road.

Dear Cafe Rio, today I am giving you this 3 star review. I regularly do not review business establishments nor do I give them negative reviews because thats not my vibe. Today however, has changed my outlook on reviews. The first star I give you because the order was ready on time. The second star you received because the food tasted good. The third star was earned because your cashier boy on the other line fixed my issues promptly and I am happy with the resolution. I do need to get this off of my mind though because it is weighing heavy. We ordered 11 childrens quesadillas, a house chicken salad with extra dressing and pico on the side. We spent a fair amount of time deciding on the chicken vs the pork, and whether the extra dressing was worth the cost. We ultimately decided that yes, yes it was. You can imagine our disappointment when the salad arrived at our designation without the extra house dressing. We proceeded to unbag the rest of our order with excitement, only to find that the pico we wanted on the side was missing. Ouch. When you are the caretaker of the multiple children eating the 11 childrens quesadillas, you want your pico. This is a fact. The final reason I am writing this review today is because there were not one, not two, but three limes on our salad. Three limes puts me above my two lime threshold by one lime, exactaly. So cafe rio, I appreciate you and your quick fresh food and polite associates who readily fix problems with customers without a second thought, however the disappointment was consuming when you lifted each lettuce leaf not knowing what would be underneath. Is it another lime? Probably. It probably is another lime.

I am in the customer service industry, and I hardly ever complain. But I went to this Cafe Rio last Saturday, and the customer service here is AWFUL! I called in my food for pick-up, and they said my food would be ready in 30 minutes. So, I showed up almost exactly thirty minutes later. I continued to wait in the pick-up line for 30 minutes once I arrived. I then was told that the wait for my food would be another 15 minutes once I paid. I then waited another 30 minutes. I had my six month old baby with me who was getting hungry, and I expected that I would be in and out of the restaurant (because that is how pick-up is supposed to work), and I told the cashier that I either needed my food or my money back. What was the most frustrating thing was that the regular line for food had cycled multiple times, and people coming in standing in the express line, right next to the pick-up line, were getting their food so quickly. People that just showed up and ordered in the express line were getting their food. When I asked for my money back they put me in the front of their queue and I got my food. I felt bad for the five people that had been in front of me in the pick-up line that still hadnt gotten their food one I left. There were other customers who had seen how long we had been waiting, and were telling the customer service person our food should be free. They customer service people were rude, and chuckled when I wanted my money back because of how long I had been waiting. I will never come to this Cafe Rio again. I think I am going to start going to Costa Vida from now on.

I am about to end a long standing love/hate relationship with this restaurant. A few months ago I stopped paying for soft drinks because it isnt until after I have a cup in hand that I am able to assess the fountain. It seems as though Cafe Rio could benefit from creating a new job position; one that sits and monitors the C02 and syrup bags exclusively. I cannot count the times the Vanilla Coke has dispensed only the purest of pure, crystalline, flat water. This puts a bad taste in my mouth before Ive even had a chance to taste the food. I quit alerting the cashier long ago as the response is too often, "Oh." But heres my real issue: A week or so ago I waited in line and ordered six meals to take home (I never call in as the order is never done on time). Were a family of chicken lovers so I was disappointed to hear that after waiting 20 minutes in line, the restaurant wouldnt have chicken for the rest of the day. A little disgruntled I opted for pork and made my way home. You can imagine my distaste when my family unwraps their dinner to find that more than half is missing from each tin - not an exaggeration. Apparently this restaurant was running low on a few ingredients and decided rather than closing for the night, they would ration everyones meal and yet still charge full price. How lovely. Your customers are not responsible for your restaurants oversight.
