The gym itself is OK. It has its pros and its cons just like any other place. There have been both improvements and detriments to the gym itself since Onelife bought out Jungles and took over. The improvements include more cardio equipment, more crossfit stuff (not really into that but its there), more classes, better equipment in most case and more types of equipment (e.g., Glute Ham Ram, Sleds, heavier DBs, bumper plates, etc.). That being said - the gym removed several key pieces of equipment and never replaced them. For having spent supposedly $2 million in renovations they removed the following items and never replaced them (and they have been open for over a year): (1) Standing Calf Raise - literally the only gym ever that doesnt have one, (2) Donkey Calf Raise, (3) Seated Military Press - again, literally the only gym that doesnt have one, (4) T Bar Row, (5) Open Power Rack - you cant put the pins on the outside so be prepared to do everything from the inside... which means if you are tall you cant do OHPs, (6) Hacksquat, etc. I just dont understand the logic to keep some of the equipment, but important equipment like that were removed and never replaced. Management is sneaky, they will give deals to who they see fit. My girlfriend signed up with NO enrollment fee (they waived hers) and gets charged $30 per month. I get charged $40 per month and inquired about getting my rate to match hers, since you know I brought them more business. And they wanted an enrollment fee and a yearly contract. Also, they are inconsistent. I was yelled at for having a gym bag with me at all times while I workout. I mean, most of us use belts, straps, dip belts, carry books, chalk, drinks, etc. so I would have that stuff with me in a bag. I was yelled at and told that bags cannot be on the gym floor because they are a hazard. Really? A hazard? I wont put my bag in the locker room though because twice since they have taken over locks have been cut off and items have been stolen. Back to my point, they are inconsistent because to this very day, I still see people who carry around bags. They arent hazards. What is a hazard is when people leave heavy weights on equipment and you guys dont care about that. Do you think its fair when a 90 pound girl has to unload a leg press that has like 10 45s on it? Lastly, there ARE hidden charges. I was charged $25 on January 25 of this year. I called to inquire about it and was told it is a "maintenance" fee. I asked what it was used for and they said to buy new equipment and maintain the club. LOL. Isnt that what our MONTHLY fees are supposed to be for? Been going to gyms for the better part of 6 years now. I been to Golds, Fitness First, Jungles, etc. and never once was I ever charged a maintenance fee. So be careful.. I was never told about a maintenance fee and I dont even have a contract with them, yet they took money without asking or informing me.

Im not much of a gym person. I prefer running outdoors, tennis, and zumba. I had a 24 Hour Fitness gym membership for less than a year. However, at the end of this week (once my 5 day free pass runs out), I will be signing up for this gym. Apparently this Onelife Fitness is replacing the previous Jungle Gym, which was notoriously awful. I went for a tour at the end of last week and things have definitely improved. It has undergone $2 million in renovations so everything is brand spankin new and clean. Theres an area for cardio, a basketball court, circuit training area with free weights, a spinning room, a private training area, and a Group X/barre room for classes - and thats just the first floor! On the second level, theres an Onelife cinema cardio room (watch movies while you workout!), a turf training area, and another Group X room for classes and/or personal training. There are saunas in the locker rooms too. The majority of cardio machines are treadmills and ellipticals. I saw a few Stairmasters too. Theres a dedicated room for spinning and they have classes there too. Good amount of free weights and resistance/core equipment. Theres a variety of classes you can take - barre, yoga, zumba, pilates, bodypump, karate, bootcamp, etc. Membership is considerably cheaper compared to some of the other gyms in the area. Either $29.99/month with a $149 enrollment fee for the first person and $50 for a second person, or $39.99/month with a $50 enrollment fee for the first person and $0 for the second. And if you happen to be an employee of the Patent & Trademark Office, you get a sizeable deduction in your enrollment fee. I was paying $55 a month for my 24 Hour Fitness membership. Included in membership are two free personal training sessions and travel benefits with over 3,000 IHRSA passport facilities. For now, there isnt a pool but in talking to one of the Onelife staff members, they are planning to buy the space next to theirs with the intention to expand and build a pool. Theyre also looking to make the gym 24 hours if the demand is high. I think if they choose to do both, it would really be a game changer in the world of DC area gyms.

The Alexandria OneLife is a nice fitness center. I like the direction the renovations are going as far as the layout and the facilities that are advertised to be offered. Its within walking distance to home and you cant beat the monthly rate they gave me. The majority of the staff are young and nice. However, a couple trainers could use a little bit more professionalism on the floor but it could just be me and my military background. Also prior to the renovations that are currently ongoing there used to be ample amounts of leg equipment to use that are necessary to build serious size and strength, Hack Squat and lying leg Curl to name a few. As a competitive bodybuilder those are two of my favorite staple machines for lower body symmetry and you can always find leg machines available since most of the so called hardcore lifters hardly work legs. Those have been removed and replaced with the new Hoist equipment which hasnt really replaced the hack squat nor the lying leg curl. This new equipment seems to be catered to the weekend warrior that enjoys a relaxing work out while simulating an amusement park ride. Most if not all the lower body Hoist machines move your entire body during each rep. This personaly creates a sensation of instability and throws off my concentration. Furthur more there is less weight on the machines than the ones that were replaced. I maybe old school but dont get me wrong Im all for the advancement in technology when dealing in the health and fitness industry but "if it aint broke dont fix it". Unfortunately I think Onelife Fitness threw the baby out with the bathwater on this one. I guess Ill have to adapt and overcome. - Ultimate Natural

I used to go to Golds Gym before moving to this area. There is a clear difference between the two. I like how clean and well maintained the equipment is at OneLife. There never seems to be a shortage of employees who adhere to the needs of the gym. Ive been going to OneLife for almost 2 months now and maybe only once have I experienced a shortage of paper towel (easily went to another dispenser that was full). Although small, a big difference maker are the fans in the locker room. No matter what, it will always be humid, however, the floors arent always wet like they would be at Golds. All the employees are friendly and are always in good appearance. All this being said, the reason for the four stars rather than five is the amount of equipment there is. I notice that there is plenty of cardio equipment but I dont think there are enough dumbbells, ez-grip barbells, or decline benches. I may be too picky or too routine oriented however I never go during peak hours because I always find myself having to switch up my routine due to the lack of weights. If there was another rack of weight from 5lbs to 60lbs dumbbells and possibly another rack of ez-grip barbells (upstairs?) I would think this gym would triumph over Golds in ever aspect. Other than that, Im extremely happy with my experience day in and day out and I feel my monthly rate is perfect for what the gym offers.
