The end product (kitchen and hardwood floors) has transformed our townhouse. We love the way our new kitchen is laid out and our main reasons for remodeling were addressed (old kitchen did not provide enough counter space, had poor lighting, came with inelegant finishes). Positives: * The KB&F process was outlined on their website - you get a ballpark estimate, home consultation and a proposed layout/detailed price all without having to put money down. * Their three lines of cabinetry are all custom made, so should the layout need to change due to unforeseen issues (i.e. walls that cannot have a pass through, soffits that dont make sense to remove) it is not a huge impact to cost/pain to redesign. * You dont have to use their preferred vendors for appliances, counter material or tile, but KB&F and their contractors have good relationships with them and the savings/discounts get passed on to you if you choose to work with their vendors. * KB&F invoicing was clear and payment was a breeze. Post-dated checks were due when we picked up our accessories and we didnt have to worry about that aspect during construction. Negatives: * During the second designer and contractor visit, we were told there would be holes poked in our walls. The first appointment was missed due to a scheduling mishap, so we had shifted our schedules around unnecessarily. Ultimately glad that this step was done because it determined our original design was no longer an option, but these werent holes so much as giant saw marks through multiple walls (living room and dining room) and large rectangles punched out of our soffits (held in place with blue painters tape) for months at a time while we finalized choosing the finishes. * We didnt get a final design showing our final selections for appliances, countertop or tile; so when it came time to decide the placement of outlets with the contractor we didnt think about how the outlet panels might disrupt our accent tile. * Communication wasnt the best between the designer, the contractor and us. Once we got to the tear-out stage our point of contact switched from the designer to the contractor, but it sounded like the designer and contractor were speaking daily. No one was speaking daily to us and with our busy schedules it was hard to understand what was needed at what point--late one night we had to make a decision on lighting, a couple Saturdays workers showed up unexpectedly, we had a few snow days but no one alerted us to whether or not theyd be coming. The way KB&F has structured their business can save you money if youre willing and able to stay on top of communication with all the various parties involved. The final result is fantastic, which offsets the negatives we endured during the project, and we will enjoy our townhouse all the more.

The designer we worked with was absolutely incredible with the design program and creating exactly what we wanted. And everything was incredibly organized during the planning phase, from where we went to pick out tile, to who we paid and when--our hands were held throughout the process, which was nice, because it decreased the amount of work on us. We ended up with the most gorgeous, spa-like bathroom. There were a couple of negative points though that were really frustrating during the process though: --There was a lot of miscommunication or non-communication between the designer, the contractor, and us. For example, we ended up with a different floor pattern than what we had decided and what was on the print-outs from the designer; luckily for us, it was beautiful anyway. There were lots of times when the contractor didnt give us timing updates or notice of problems or roadblocks, and it seemed like the designer wasnt made aware of that either. We were constantly confused as to whether to go to the contractor or designer to resolve issues along the way. It all came to a head at several points when we were either worried the bathroom was taking the wrong direction (which we were luckily able to fix in time) or when there were roadblocks we werent informed of that led to an exponential increase in the completion time and the need for us to continue to figure out alternatives for showering. --The designer was a bit pushy in the initial phases when he disagreed with something I had envisioned. In the end, he is highly trained and very good at what he does and Im sure the bathroom he had in his mind would have been beautiful. I had to be a bit vocal with my ideas, to make it unique and not so cookie-cutter. In the end, we ended up with a beautiful bathroom and I couldnt be happier. I wouldnt turn anyone away from K&B--I just think I would do some more homework next time to compare more options before turning to them again.

Working with Kitchen and Bath Factory (K&BF) was a positive and successful experience for us. We are pleased with the final result of our master bathroom renovation. The bathroom looks exactly like what we had in mind and works well. David Doughton helped refine our original design and his recommended contractor masterly executed the project. Chris Kupczak heads a crew that demonstrated to be skillful, knowledgeable and attentive to detail, always ready to make sure things were done right. Crew members were considerate and pleasant. We appreciate both David and the crews responsiveness and suggestions. We like the quality of the workmanship, as well as of the vanity, mirrors, fixtures and shower doors that David found for us. If you ask me what could have gone better? Perhaps no interference of holidays and inclement weather so that the execution would have gone faster (we lost about 20 days) and less involvement on my part during the construction. A piece of advice (independent of who you work with): This kind of projects requires the owner to take multiple decisions. There is no way around it--either the owner gets involved in making those decisions at the design stage or he/she may expect to be more involved in decision-making during the construction. Also, to minimize the managing process of assuring that materials arrive on time, it may be easier if more decisions are taken beforehand at the design stage. However, this is a trade-off because it helps to assess options on the spot. It may help to have a check list to monitor what materials need to be ordered first (and by whom) as early as possible and in what order. In sum, I highly recommend Kitchen and Bath Factory. We are happy with our new beautiful and functional bathroom! Customer in Arlington 3/11

I had read all the reviews of Kitchen & Bath Factory and was very skeptical. How can a company be this good. But they are! We had a wonderful experience working with the team and now have a splendid new kitchen, replacing a dilapidated formica mess with a stunning cherry/stainless/granite showcase with wonderful functional features as well. (Microwave drawer-- genius.) We had done a lot of research and talked to a number of kitchen designers and had some sample plans drawn up that were useless and impractical. KBFs approach was brilliant-- the designer (David) AND contractor (Val de Mar) both came out the house for a preliminary visit, evaluating both the design and the feasibility of executing the design. David was able to show us immediately on his computer what he had in mind-- it was clever and really used the small space to its best advantage. Val de Mar was a smart contractor-- solution oriented, a good listener and co-creator. His team were responsible, reliable, immaculate (cleaned up daily after their work) and kept to the schedule and their work was high quality. David, Anne and Bob were all great resources in selecting cabinets, accessories and finishes and did not try to "sell up" but really worked closely with us to figure out what was the best fit for our needs and best value. The appliance, countertop and tile vendors they sent us to were all great partners in this effort and their pricing was competitive. And best of all they, and the cabinet builders, all met their delivery dates. KBF really has a great win-win business model. We look forward to doing more projects with them.
