I was a member here for 10 years. No more!! I went in a couple of days ago and presented by membership card, which I have on a key ring app, like I always do. The General Manager, Mark York (short, overweight, bald guy) reached over the check in girl and took my phone. He scanned the ID # and asked me for my photo ID. I asked him why, nobody has ever asked me for an ID in 10 years. He said because there was no photo associated with my membership. Funny, youd think they would catch that sooner than 10 years into my membership. I told him to go ahead and take a photo. He said he still needs an ID. So, I gave him my drivers license. He asked for me to come to the back room with him. I said absolutely not!! He had my Photo ID, he had my phone with membership info, I just wanted to go in and work out. I cannot for the life of me understand why that wasnt sufficient, especially after going there for 10 years without a hitch. Obviously, Mark York was on a power trip. He told me to leave. Unbelievable!!! I gave my membership ID, I gave a photo ID, my dues are paid. Im being asked to leave?? I asked him to give me my phone and Drivers License back. He gave me my phone and held onto my ID. For a second time I asked Mark York for my Drivers License. He held my ID back so I couldnt reach it. The third time I yelled give me my ID back, and took it from him. Now Im angry, but in complete control of my emotions. Mark York told me I could either leave Voluntarily or Involuntarily. I have too much at stake to get into it with the staff at S & H, so I left, but got their customer service info first. What a waste of time!! I spoke with two people in Customer service, and honestly, they couldnt care less that one of their employees physically threatened a 10 year member. One of the reps actually said I would get a same day call back after he (Andy Stromberg) had investigated this matter and spoken to Mark York. Unsurprising to me, I never got such a call back. This gym used to be really good, but it is now dying a slow death. Theyve recently done a number of renovations to make the gym seem nice, but its not and thats mainly due to the way it is run. The bathrooms are awful and usually in dire need of cleaning/maintenance. The steam room, sauna, and hot tub are usually out of service. The cardio machines are bunched up within 6-10 inches of each other. Most are aging, worn out, or completely out of service (forget about getting on one that has a working audio unit or tv!). The few usable machines in the weight room are always occupied. For example, they now have one incline bench (that you will never get to use) and 6+ cable peck-deck machines (that no one ever uses). They constantly rent out their basketball courts for tournaments. So, you can expect to have a lot of non members in your gym interrupting your workout. And entire sections of the gym will be closed at various times for classes. Its really annoying. In summary, this is a big gym that seems nice at first, but thats just not the case. I would tolerate it due to its location, but there are other gyms in this price range and even less expensive that are way better. IMO, Stay away. Once they get your money, they wont give a darn about you. As for me, I already joined another gym. Despite having a membership through the first week of May, I wont be going back to Sport & Health.

Despite some negative reviews here, I have had a great experience with Tysons Sport & Health. I did, however, originally go to the club with the intention of joining-- so I wanted to "get the sales pitch." Tysons Sport & Health is fantastic! I have been a member for about 1-2 years and have taken advantage of their personal training sessions from the start. I was starting an exercise routine after surgery. Having previously been a competitive swimmer, but having not been able to exercise in a few years, I knew that enlisting the help of knowledgeable people couldnt hurt. **Needless to say, the trainers here are great. They work with you no matter where your starting point may be or where your end goals will take you. They keep the workouts interesting, challenging, and most of all keep you motivated to reach YOUR specific goals.** I have lost ~70lbs in the last year and am getting stronger every week. I couldnt have gotten this far on my own, thats for sure! If personal training isnt your thing, they have plenty of group exercise classes and other small group programs to suit your needs, including swimming. If you rather come in and listen to your iPod and workout without being disturbed, you can do that too : ) The club is kept clean by a hard-working cleaning crew. From cleaning the locker rooms to wiping down machines, they are always visible and hard at work. Not to mention, there are always clean towels provided and they are currently installing brand new lockers, which will be a nice upgrade (despite having to bring your own lock (unless you rent a locker)). When the inevitable happens and a machine does break, there is a sign on it with an expected resolution date, which is usually within the next few days. The staff at Tysons Sport & Health is very helpful and friendly. Its the little things that really set this club apart. Parking could be better-- $1/visit during the week, free on weekends. It doesnt sound like much, but its on top of a pricy membership fee,and if you go a few times during the week, well you get the idea.

After calling to inquire about he price I was told I would need to come in to discuss their plan and get a price. I told the female sales rep that I had been through the strong-arm sales pitch in the past and was to busy to shop health clubs in person but needed to know if they were in my budget before I visited. After 20 mins of run around talk I was assured there would be no pressure. To get her off the phone I said I might come in one evening after work the next week. On Monday evening I got a call from her asking me where I was that I had missed our appointment. I told her I didnt make an appointment and she pushed me to come in that evening to take advantage of a deal that was only available that day. I told her this was exactly the tactic I wanted to avoid and that I would not be coming in at all. The next three days I day a call from a guy that claimed to be her boss and he stated she was out on training "she sure gets trained alot" but he understood I had been speaking with her about joining. When I said "no" he said really, very sarcastically. In truth I had not been speaking with her about joining I had been telling her I wanted a price over the phone. I asked him to not call me back. The next two evenings I continued to get calls from him and ignored them on my phone. The sad part is I work in the building they share a parking lot with and it would have be so very easy for me. In my experience the experience you have with the membership staff is only the beginning of the overall experience you will after joining. DON"T BE SUCKED IN!
