We found Butlers Unique Catering on The Knot right about the time I was ready to give up and head to Vegas. We had always intended on a small wedding, but I wanted it to be classy. I did not want to pay the prices of a 150+ person wedding. Came across Todd Butler and we were sold from the first meeting. The Brownstone, which Todd and his business partner just purchased a year ago, was such a unique venue and it had all of the charm of downtown Richmond that we were looking for. In our first discussion, Todd had presented a very classic menu and, in touring the facility with him, we could so clearly see the ambiance and character that made Todd buy this place to start with. Todd made the planning of the entire event super simple and no stress with the "one stop" approach from everything needed for the ceremony to the clean up at the end of the reception. Fast forward to the service itself and Todds staff was phenomenal! We were touch and go all day about rain with the ceremony scheduled to be held on the patio. It looked like we were in the clear so the guests were seated. Just as the wedding party was about to line up, the sky opened up on us. In less than 15 minutes the staff had the entire alter moved to the ballroom in the basement (yes, there is a ballroom in the basement! Who knew?!?!?) and the ceremony went beautifully. Such a well orchestrated crew had everyone back upstairs for appetizers and coctails while we took pictures, and then back downstairs for the reception and dinner. And the food was amazing!!! Everyone raved on and on about the salad, the tenderloin medallions, the pecan crusted chicken, and the crab ball appetizers. And from rain comes rainbows, which combined with Franklin street, we had a great backdrop for some great pictures. All in all, I could not imagine my day going any other way or at any other place. Summed up: Perfection and it was due in large part to Todd, his staff, and that fabulous building!

I recently booked my wedding here at this venue and to say I am highly disappointed is just the beginning. Everything started off great and everyone was helpful but as soon as I put my deposit down is when everything changed. The caterer for this venue is the absolute worst. He is rude and disorganized. I waited over 2 months for him to get back to me with our contract. When I finally did receive the contract it was wrong and it took him another 3 weeks to correct it. When I had questions about my venue (i.e if it rains on my day is there a backup area at the venue where I can take pictures) the caterer proceeds to tell me that he doesnt know because it has never rained on the day of a wedding. I find that very hard to believe that it has never once rained on a day for a scheduled wedding. When I reached out the actual venue to speak with them about the bad experience they kept referring me back to the caterer. Why would you refer me back to the person I am having the most issues with. I am so displeased with this venue. It is such beautiful venue but the customer service here is AWFUL. I just want my wedding day to be special and with this place I am nothing but stressed. When someone is spending over 12K for their wedding you just want everything right and for the caterer to at least be professional and send over the right information. I would not recommend this place to anyone. You are better off going down to the courthouse because this place will make you feel that way.
