I absolutely love the Imago Hair Salon! This is the only hair Salon I will go to as long as I am in the Richmond, VA. area. I could never find a hair salon that could properly handle my hair. I have huge bowtticelli type curls, and every hairstylist who has ever cut my hair cut it wet, and I didnt like that because my hair springs up so much my hair would always come out shorter than I wanted. So one day as I was watching Youtube, and I heard about the DevaChan Salon in NY, and the product, and loved it. I liked how their style of cutting hair is cutting it dry first so you can see what it looks like in its natural state, than after they wash it they go back to clip anything you want shorter. After doing research on them I looked for a places in Richmond that would do the same thing, and learned that Imago did, and all there stylist did training at the DevaChan salon! So of course I was like I have to go! My experience there this past May of 2012 was amazing. Everyone in there that day was so nice! I booked online for a Curly Girl cut with Shea after I read her profile online. Once I got in the chair, and Shea started getting a feel for my hair I showed her a picture, and a video of what I wanted, and she master the hair cut, and it matched the look I was going for! Throughout the whole process we had great conversation about our backrounds, and she shared so much knownledge with me about my hair, how to handle it, and the best way to use DevaChan products to get health, defined curls. She was very nice, attentive, and easy going. I encourage any curly girl, or guy to not only go to this salon, but set an appointment with Shea shes awesome!!!!

I moved to Richmond from Phoenix, AZ a year ago. My stylist in Phoenix was excellent. I followed him from salon to salon for a few years. He was also a Vidal Sassoon trained stylist. When I decided to move back to the East coast, I was intent on finding a stylist with the same excellent level/s of training. I found only one Vidal Sassoon trained stylist in Richmond; Mary Jo at Imago salon. There may be more, however, she was the only one that I could find. When I went to the salon I enjoyed the atmosphere, the service ( I loved the coffee, the greetings, and the interest in my well being), and the people. Mary Jo spoke to me at length about my hair, what I might want, color (if I was interested), multiple style types, my work, my interests, etc. She was trying to get to know a bit about me as well as my hair. In order for her to help me with my hair style, it was important for her to understand who I was, what I was looking for, etc. I have been going back to Mary Jo for a year now. She has consistently done wonderful, and fun, cuts, and color with my hair. I enjoy working with her. I do not feel like she overrides my opinions, or what is important to me. I am not the easiest person to work with sometimes, and I am very picky about my hair (as most of us are). I am so impressed with Mary Jos level of training, her talent, and her ability. I do NOT have curly hair, and point this out so that anyone without curly hair will know that this salon is excellent for anyone (though they do have a curly hair specialty). I would recommend Mary Jo to anyone without reservation. She has made my move to Richmond much better!

This is the only place I will go for a hair cut. I have extremely curly, thick hair. I have gone through every bad hair style, you can imagine-- the fro, the triangle, the frizz, and even straightening it until it was so unhealthy, I had to cut almost all of my length off. Imago introduced me to the Deva Curls hair care line, and it has saved my life. They taught me how to wash my hair, dry my hair, and style it. I wish I had known about them years ago! When I go to any other salon, I have to get a cut and then go home and rewash and style my hair, because they just dont know how to make my curls do their thing, even if the cut is okay. With Imago, I always leave feeling good about my hair. Their methods are very unique, especially dry cutting! I was a little concerned, when I saw how unconventional it was, but they really know how to work with curly hair, and it WORKS. After they showed me how to work with my hair, I began experimenting with those methods, and for the first time, I know exactly what to do to walk out of the house with great hair, everyday. That is a miracle, for a curly girl. I have had several stylists, and I have never had a bad cut. I regularly go to Shea, however. She is fantastic-- gives honest opinions about what will and wont work for my hair and is so willing to work with every detail I bring up. She is wonderful to go! Again, I have never had a bad experience with any of their stylists, and I have seen them do cuts and color on curly and straight hair-- never a bad outcome. I cant recommend Imago, enough.

After moving to Richmond, I went about 6 months without a hair cut because I could absolutely not find a salon that could deal with my wild hair (biracial, massive/thick, 3c curly spirals/ringlets, fro-ish, etc). I happened upon Imago from a radio ad and could not have had better luck. Jessica is AMAZING. I absolutely love her. Ive been going to her for about a year now and she has never ceased to amaze me. She gives a perfect cut, really works with you to understand how to style your hair at home, gives product advice without pressure, and is an all around great person to be around--which makes an appointment not the usual dreadful salon talk Id been used to. Without sounding like a full on groupie, I cant say enough great things about Jessica as a stylist and Imago as a salon. (Sidenote--Ive also been to Shea once when Jessica was sick, I was very pleased with the result. She was friendly and did a great job. If I wasnt such a perfect fit with Jessica, I would absolutely go back to her.)

Im new to Richmond and the positive reviews led me to this place, but it was nothing more than totally underwhelming. My hairstylist was Jessica who is new to the salon. When I made my appt Mary Jo answered the phone and assured me Jessica was a good stylist and she only hires the best. Jessica told me she walked in off the street with a resume and was hired after a coffee that same day. And that was exactly the quality haircut I got. Jessica is by no means a stylist - she can only do what you tell her to do and not well. This is the worst haircut Ive had that I can remember. The salon itself is dingy and cluttered. I cant believe there were such positive reviews for this place and I sincerely hope I can find better in Richmond. I think the only way to justify this place with the reviews is by comparing it to Supercuts. Probably compared to Supercuts its"awesome". Id say it was a dingy salon that I left with a bad haircut.
