My first experiences with Salon Vivace were through modeling in RVA Fashion Week. Salon Vivace provided the main hair and makeup stylists for those runway shows. Ive had my hair and makeup done by several of their stylists many times, and I was always very impressed with how creative and talented they ALL were at achieving unique, sometimes avant-garde styles. If they can do elaborate runway looks, they can definitely do your everyday ones. I decided to go to Josh at one point to get my hair cut and colored. I had been dying it auburn from a box, and he was able to give me the same color, but it was richer, shinier, healthier and overall much, much better looking. He would apply the Olaplex treatment, which I highly recommend, as it made my curly, frizzy hair sleek and easy to style, without losing all its texture the way a Brazilian Blowout can do. I would get out of the shower, let it air dry and have perfect, shiny, natural waves that looked like I used a curling iron. Before I went to him, there was no chance of it cooperating like that without using a hair dryer/curling iron, and even then it would still look a little rough. The effects of his color and treatments also lasted much longer than I expected them to. Red dyes can fade into really strange colors, but with the way he did it (toners? magic potions??) it would maintain the desired color for months. Ive since moved to Texas and its been about three months since my last appointment with Josh. My hair has obviously grown out some, but Im surprised at how well the color has held up. I really only had to have him do root touch ups because he was able to match the color so well. I think hes great at giving you exactly what you ask for, but also at recommending variations on what you asked for that will probably end up looking better. Overall, Id highly recommend Josh and the salon in general. I always got compliments on my hair after Id see him and I wish I didnt live so far away so I could go in for another visit.

Facials by Jillian!!! I moved back to Richmond four years ago at a point in my life when regular facials were becoming something I could a.) afford and b.) probably needed. Richmond has a huge variety of salons, but I returned to Salon Vivace because I had been there for a wedding and remembered good service and decent prices. Its also 5 blocks from my house, at the top of Carytown, with a small parking lot and is open late. But the REAL selling point was Jillian, whom I randomly picked, instantly liked and have been visiting regularly ever since. She doesnt just administer a facial and call it a day. She thoughtfully considers your complexion, your lifestyle, your environment, etc., and recommends a service that makes sense. Afterward she recommends products (and provide samples when she can) that she sticks by, not because shes trying to move merchandise, and asks later how theyre working out. Ive even asked her about products that Vivace doesnt carry, and shes researched on her own time whether or not they are good for my skin. Shes always reading books about wellness and passing on handy information about water and pH values, etc. And finally, the facial itself: AWESOME. In addition to the skin treatment (which, again, can be customized to your needs), Jillian hooks you up with a serious head, neck and shoulder massage, as well as hands, arms and feet. Its almost like getting two services for the price of one. She never feels rushed, and I always leave feeling refreshed and like the only customer in the place. I just wish I could go more often!

I just got back from getting a wax at Salon Vivace and I had to come inside and immediately write this review. I have to say I have never written an online review before, however their service warranted a huge thank you, and I want everyone to know how fantastic they are! Jillian and Sarah-Catherine took such great care of me! I was very nervous going into the salon, as I had had a terrible experience prior to today with a wax at a different salon in town. I voiced my concerns and they were taken very seriously and sensitively. Sarah Catherine was incredibly honest, personal and careful. She obviously enjoys what she does, and she was wonderful at it. Jillian came in to over see the last part of the wax, and was fabulous. I really cannot rave enough about their professionalism. I already booked my next appointment! Salon Vivace changed my mind about waxing, and I hope others will give them a try! I have also had a pedicure and haircut there by Melanie which I was equally pleased with.

I have gone to this salon twice to get my hair done by Joshua, and I have to say, I cant imagine having anyone else do my hair now! To say that Joshua is helpful, accommodating, and talented at what he does would be the biggest understatement. He walks you step by step through the process and tells you exactly what hes doing with your hair, which is reassuring since I think its important to know what exactly is being used in your hair! He not only tells you what hes using, but why hes using it and how it can benefit you. He is open to suggestion and his goal is to make you feel happier about your hair once youve stepped out of his chair. Hes done that for me every time. I always feel so confident and good about myself after an appointment with him! I request him to everyone I know in the Richmond area!

I have been going to get my hair done by Josh Cruz-Magee at Salon Vivace for about 3-4 years now and have always had an excellent experience! My hair is in tremendously better condition than it was before I started going to him. He always nails what I ask for and will sit there and adjust/fix/refines the results until Im happy with them even if it takes longer, which means so much to me considering how picky I am with my hair :-) always very flexible and accommodates me even though I have a tendency to make a split-decision call for a hair appointment the next day or two. Ive moved out of the area to go back to school and still wont trust anyone else with my hair. Highly recommend!

Its pretty obvious that this salon has a very talented staff in terms of hair, nails, make-up, massage. Whats just as impressive as the expertise of those who cut, curl, color, and sooth is the outstanding customer service they provide. Theres always a warm greeting from the receptionist, an offer of tea or other beverage or to hang up your coat; pleasant conversational exchanges between clients and the front desk. This hospitality extends to phone calls, as well. While their prices might be a little on the high side, the personal, pleasant experience they provide makes it worth it. I always feel special when I go to this salon...and I always look extra special when I leave!

went here a couple times and received an eyebrow wax, mani/pedi, updo, and the Aromaplus facial. I have always loved the quiet and relaxing atmosphere here. The spa itself is very small, and the services are divided into different rooms- massage/waxing/facials, nails, hair, etc. They will schedule your services to make sure you come out refreshed and relaxed, and I didnt make the mistake of scheduling my wax last like some girls do on their first time at a day spa. The service was wonderful and all the staff will listen to what you want and they DELIVER.
