After coloring my hair at home for over ten years, I decided that I wanted to try getting it done professionally. I was not disappointed! Marki sat down with me and spoke with me about what she thought would work well with my hair. I have naturally black hair which was dyed a dark brownish/red. Also as a medical student, I have to maintain a professional appearance for my patient interactions. Originally when I had scheduled, I requested a full set of highlights over the phone, but she actually told me that they wouldnt give me the results I wanted and explained that a partial set of highlights (which are actually less expensive!) would actually work best, and she would make them 2 shades lighter than my current shade. When she was finished, I had noticeable yet natural highlights dispersed in the hair framing my face, about two shades lighter than original. I also thought the environment was great. From the receptionist (sorry cant remember her name) to Marki, and also Shannon who washed my hair.. they were all very friendly and also took the time to make me feel welcome and explain what they were doing, what products they were using and why. Luxor = 5/5 stars!

I got one of those haircuts where you are too embarrassed to even stop at the grocery store on the way home. Marki seemed to believe she had superior knowledge (on all subjects) and this really made it difficult to communicate. Plus the actual skill level didnt match the talk. I know it was my fault for not leaving when I realized this but I kept hoping that the positive reviews had been correct. Now I am wondering if those reviews were written by friends or staff. I left with chunks sticking out in strange places plus one side of my hair was smooth and layered while the other was in kind of an uneven 2-layer flip. The 2 sides didnt look like they belonged on the same head, and, no, I had not requested an asymmetrical style- I even brought pictures. I realize I could have gone back and asked her to even up the weird places but it was one of those situations where I knew I would have more success getting another hairdresser to fix it because it would be difficult, if not impossible, to convince the Luxor stylist that there were any problems with her cut. At least my friends got a few laughs over that new do!

My appointment hasnt been within the week (cant get that to go away!) Its been a while in fact, but LUXOR was not my favorite place. The hair cut was fine; not memorable. One of the owners kept trying to sell me on certain products every time I was there. And very talkative on almost every subject imaginable. Also sharing her points of view on everything because she knew everything. (Thats a matter of opinion.) And, why do I want to know all this anyway on my first visit to their salon? Second time I kept a magazine in my face, but she didnt get the message. Also, my manicure was fine, but this young lady talked during the entire manicure. Non-stop!! I think she was actually uncomfortable with silence. I know I sound unsociable, but I like to relax when I go to a salon, maybe read a magazine, and yes---conversation is fine to a point. I was exhausted when I left. Went back a second time but realized it just wasnt a good match. In all fairness most of the staff seem like good stylists.

I hadnt cut my hair in nearly 6 years, and wanted to donate it to Locks of Love. I live near Luxor, so I called on a Thursday and got an appointment the next day with Nicole. Obviously I was apprehensive about getting a shorter cut, but after lopping off braids longer than a foot I felt comfortable enough to trust Nicole. I walked out of the salon feeling like a million bucks, with a style and cut that after two weeks is still extremely versatile and super easy to care for. Their charges are very reasonable, and while I was in the salon I saw a wide variety of people getting a wide variety of cuts, colorings, etc. The entire staff was very pleasant and the salon was clean, welcoming, and professional from the appointment to my exit! I will return!

I have been going to Marki at Luxor Salon (and also in her former life at Tanglz) for about 12 year now! I consistently get compliments on my cuts and color. Ive asked Marki for just about every cut and color, and even perms! She is always honest and tells me what will and wont work for the shape of my face and my complexion (and age!). I highly recommend Luxor Salon for anyone of any age. Mia, Markis sister, and Noelle are amazing stylist also. If Marki cant take me, usually Mia or Noelle can so you can almost always get the appointment you need.

I am new to the area and after searching on-line I finally went to Luxor for highlights. One of the worse mistakes in my life! The hair stylist fried my hair! I had to have my hair cut to get rid of the damage! I am surprised after reading all the positive reviews but I WILL NEVER go back to Luxor! I called and asked to speak with management and they never even returned my call! Still looking for a good colorist in Richmond but after this catastrophe I am more cautious about all the GREAT reviews!

This salon was recommended to me 5 years ago by a beauty supply rep as the best one in the city. I went and after spending years having stylists tell me that my hair was to thin to be able to grow long, I am happy to tell you that I have strong, healthy hair down to the middle of my back. I refer everyone I know to them. I moved out of town about 45 minutes away, and still drive the distance to stay here. Fantastic salon!
