When we found we were moving to Greene County (currently in Albemarle), we were excited to find that there was a preschool just a couple miles from our home. And their tuition was relatively inexpensive. However, those are the only 2 positives that we could find with the preschool. There are some things that I know are out their control, such as the building itself has very little natural light, which gives its entrance a very dark feeling. The classrooms are small, they are meant to fit 10 kids:1 teacher but 6 kids and 1 teacher looked crowded. And their Pre-K class is in a trailer addition. Again, things we understand that are out of their hands, but kind of a shock when youve been exploring other daycares in the area. However, what really turned us off from the preschool was their menu. Breakfast items included donuts, snack items included strawberry shortcake, vanilla wafers and pudding, and so on. Supposedly, this follows the USDA guidelines, but there are a bunch of ways to follow USDA guidelines and offer healthier options. Instead of strawberry shortcake, offer apple slices and crackers. Or canned peaches and graham crackers. Or baby carrots and dip. Or chips and salsa. Or cereal, bagels, and so on for breakfast. We were really shocked that almost every day our daughter would be offered some sort of "high sugar, low nutrition" option.

As of 2016, our twin boys have been attending the center for 4 years. In that time they have gotten the most loving and attentive care we could imagine. They also could not have been better prepared for kindergarten, we feel. The teachers there are not babysitters. They are constantly preparing your kids for the next level and the expectations that will go along with that. The Center is a non profit business providing an essential service to the surrounding communities and has been in Greene County for 45 years. The staff has an average of 9.5 years working there with a high of 27 years! They know what they are doing! The entire staff from Director on down is the most genuine and caring group of people you could hope for to provide care for your child. The Center is just off route 33 near route 29 and boasts a HUGE playground area as well. Additionally, I understand that there are several improvements being planned for the facility and surrounding grounds. I would highly recommend taking a tour of the Center and enrolling your child(ren) there...

We had a difficult time finding a good childcare situation for my first son. As soon as he was old enough, we enrolled him here. I was very nervous that this would be another temporary placement, but thankfully, we all loved it. He continued to attend until he left for Kindergarten. I felt like he was completely prepared for the transition. All of the teachers he had were wonderful, some of whom have been at the center for 20+ years. My youngest son has thrived there as well. He is loved and well taken care of, and learns something exciting and new everyday!

My two children have been going to Greene County Childcare Center for 5 years now and I have been very pleased with our experience there. They were both well-prepared for kindergarten after having been through the structured Pre-K class. Now that they are in the after school program with some kids theyve know most of their lives its become almost like a second family for them. I would recommend the center to anyone interested in childcare for any age group.
