First of all let me say that I do not write a poor review of any business without a great deal of thought. I do not want to tarnish anothers reputation or effect their business in a negative manner unless I feel it is truly warranted. In this case I believe it is. I received a phone call from the King County Sheriffs office letting me know that they had a lap top that they believed was stolen and was thought to belong to me. At first I couldnt imagine what they were referring to. However, as the Detective continued it soon became clear that it was very possible that someone had broken into my storage unit at Sherlock Self Storage. Apparently, a women had been renting a space with Sherlock and was breaking into units in the same building--stealing others valuables. I called the office of the Storage place and spoke with Jim and asked him what was going on. He said that he was familiar with the case. I told him about the phone call that I received and he say incredulously "That was nearly two months ago." I responded that was exactly what had concerned me. That this happened so long ago and that I had not been notified about the situation. I asked if he had checked my unit and he sort of danced around the topic. I was quite distressed and asked him to check and to call me back as soon as possible. Nearly a half of an hour went by and he still had not called. At this point I was beside myself worried that my belongings were in someone elses possession or the trash after being deemed valueless. I called again and still no answer. I left a message urging him to call me back as quickly as he could. Unfortunately I was far away and unable to follow up myself. I finally called again and this time he answered saying that he was at the unit and the lock had been drilled. I couldnt believe it. It had been nearly two months since her arrest and they were aware of the fact that she was stealing from the same building as the one my unit was in and still they had not checked my lock. His excuse--we wouldnt have been able to tell that something was wrong with the lock by looking at it. But obviously he could figure it out once he checked it. I am in disbelief still--when someone says they offer secure storage and they dont do routine checks of their facility--ESPECIALLY AFTER IT WAS ROBBED-- it is unthinkable. I do not think they are bad people but they are incredibly inept to say the least. If you value your belongs and cannot check on them daily--think twice about using this place. They need to change their name from Sherlock--because they havent got a clue. Send to a Friend Link to This Review

I run a very small nonprofit (consisting of: me) so cannot afford an expensive storage unit. I also, however, put on a local 5K every year, which requires a significant amount of equipment, AND I just added to my roster a recurring fundraiser with Value Village, which involved a large number of household donations and absolutely required a large unit. I was never very happy with my prior storage place (no need to mention names), including an absolute refusal to provide any sort of discount to a registered 501(c)(3). I made an inquiry of Sherlock via email and received an immediate response from Aaron Beal, one of the managers or owners. He expressed interest in our missions and a desire to be a part of our organization, and he immediately instituted a significant "nonprofit discount" for our organization so that we could in fact afford to rent a large unit there. Then, to beat that, on our "load-out" day ( i.e., empty the storage unit into their truck and deliver a literal truckLOAD of stuff to Value Village), Aaron joined me and my two other volunteers and spent two and a half hours helping with the very strenuous work on a very hot day! Never in a million years would I have expected that. I am thrilled to have found Sherlock Self-Storage, and they will be keeping my business for the foreseeable future!

This is the worst storage place. I am currently renting a pretty large unit which isnt cheap but I am looking to take my business elsewhere. My bill is paid every month and my wife and I are constantly sweeping up after ourselves even though most of what gets swept wasnt even tracked in by us. The guy who moved out of a unit directly across from mine said he found a lot of rhode that droppings all over his stuff. The place is filthy and they have really poor customer service. The owner is so wealthy he has lost touch with reality and his humanity while flaunting his fancy Tesla. We cant even take stuff out of the unit to get to stuff behind it without one of the office guys rushing out in their goofy golf cart ( b/c God forbid they walk anywhere) to give us s hard time about stuff being in the hallway! Oh and if you do rent here, DONT take a unit in the A bldg b/c the office dudes chain smoke inside the first unit and the whole building smells like an ash tray upper AND lower floors. My advice; give your business and your money to some other place that wont make your stuff smell like you smoke a pack a day

I have a unit at this place until the end of this month. They have terminated my lease agreement in retaliation for an unfavorable review. I have paid them on time, been friendly and complied with every request they have made to me and when they told me I was spending too much time there accessing my unit, I even stopped spending as much time there even though it was in compliance with their gate hours. My husband submitted a review detailing his displeasure and they sent me an email saying we were evicted and they restricted my gate access and will only allow me in during office hours. From that point on, they have been holding my unit hostage, they harass me relentlessly each time I try to go and move even a few of my things and by limiting me FOR NO GOOD REASON they are setting me up to fail at getting moved out. It is beyond retaliation at this point, it is cruel and intentional harassment and I am going to post up on the street at their entrance and picket because I have no other recourse. PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE.

RENTER BEWARE! Poor business ethics.... There is a 3.5x15 unit that they are marketing as a 5x15 unit with poor lighting. Sherlock is trying to charge this wonky 52.5 sq ft unit as a 75 sq ft unit. When I asked them to come down on the price because the price per sq foot was astronomical and they were misrepresenting the unit space, I was told they couldnt budge on price. Essentially, what theyre saying is "Wed rather wait for the next sucker to come along and rent it OVERPRICED at the 5x15 rate". The ONLY reason I knew the space was smaller than what they told me is because I brought my tape measurer back thinking that theres no way the width was 5 feet long. Horrible. Poor business ethic and business. All I need is a storage unit... not someone to scam me. In general, the storage rental business seems to be very shady.
