I would give it a five star, because the pool is cleaner than the one I used to go to on Ft Lewis, but then again, there were renovations- and I have not been there since then. I do know, there was foam along the edges at one of the pools in Ft Lewis and I was happy to find the one in Lakewood, which appears to be cleaner than the YMCA in Tacoma. I am a disabled Veteran and I have been going there and it is the only thing that helps my pain for the most part. But the last time I was there, there was some older military jerk, and he had no tolerance for me being in the same pool and sharing the space, because I cant lap swim and the pool was crowded that day. I saw him going and complaining to one of the pool guards, but he handled it well. Then that brainwashed jerk left. I dont care, if you are in the military, be respectful towards people, and lead by example, and dont act like you own the place. If your rank has gone over your head, wake up and realize, there are people in this location, who are not always physically fit and may have disabilities and that may be the only way that they can do something for themselves. I know, what it meant to be fit once, but things happen and people get hurt while serving and respecting people while working out is just paramount.Well, I really like the pool there, the one thing I dont like, there is such a lack of modesty, people are naked in front of each other and really all of them are strangers, it is so weird to me, that people can just be naked in front of another person. For people, who have privacy or religious values, it is difficult to change. The one thing I miss was in Germany, where the pools had dressing rooms and then separate locker rooms with two benches inside and the children and other people had absolute privacy. The rooms for grooming were separate from the bathroom stalls. I wished that was adapted here. But I will keep on going there, because it is better than having no other place to go. For the few things, that have kinks, this place is pretty o.k. and very affordable.I am giving it a three star, because of the lack of privacy and modesty in the shower and changing rooms. I am afraid, if there is a gender identity issue, that there will be less modesty, not that I am judging people on that, but modesty is something that at least I am comfortable with and I do not want to have to see a blurred look away vision from the corner of my eye of another undressed person, it is just weird, creepy and uncomfortable to me.

Unfortunately the only "family" gym I know. (1)Theres so many adult classes the kids and I are not able to go to certain rooms during the time that we are able to (usually morning and late afternoon) even and especially in the summer. (2) unless you sign up for a class (usually have to pay for something worthy) and you are with your kids consider yourself exempt. (3) there is an age gap between nursery and when children are allowed to roam free and even with close supervision at 7, and behaved, are they not allowed on the top room (although they have many times before) so there are "rule" and staff inconsistencies. (4) many times have paid extra for sport classes only to find out the coaches are not well trained or serious about what they are doing. This is considered (as the manager said) "more thorough with skills". I was then recommended to do classes that come with our membership that dont have additional fees when I complained about how poorly the service we pay for is...but if we pay $50 extra for each child for a class what exactly would "free" look like? Does FREE JUSTIFY crap service? This is not a "family" Y. I feel this is more geared towards the elderly, which is great obviously, but dont ever say family! I have felt xd out in a sense, beings I see children younger than my kids age being unsupervised especially upstairs, where my children are well behaved and always told to leave the area. If I can find a different REAL FAMILY oriented gym I am switching.

The people working here are the nicest Y employees that I have ever known. Its a really great place. Ive never had a problem with cleanliness and I have been going for years. The main reason that I love this YMCA above other clubs is the people working out there with me. They are so helpful and im a little chubby and so im self conscience when im working out but i feel so comfortable there. Its a great family environment. In response to "The Ghetto YMCA" remark, I dont see how you could say that. Maybe its because of all the minorities that go there? The Lakewood YMCA is very diverse and just because its not filled with rich snobs like other gyms does not mean its ghetto.

The 12 week program at the Y is a good program but lacks experienced and dedicated trainers, and the follow up is really bad. This could be a great program if it was run correctly and had management behind it. The fact that certain people continue to let their small children into the upstairs weight area is a real bummer. Some people dont respect the rules and it seems that management does not do a good job of enforcing them. Maybe management is the problem. Someone needs to let certain people know that we have rules and they will be enforced, Keep you damn kids out of the weight lifting area! Its a nice facility but could be managed a little better.

1. Hours: -Terrible. They close early whenever they want with only one-day notice. I dont and cannot go everyday to catch your sign saying "close early, bye". PLEASE CHANGE YOUR HOURS!!! urgh! 2. Pools: -Heavily chlorinated that hurt my nose when I walk out form the locker room. They probably reuse the same water a millions times. Fact: Chlorine is a radical reactant. -Theres this water aerobic class which always turns up the music so LOUD, despite all the complaints from other customers. -Naked women walk around without being discreet.

If you are an adult and you want to swim at the pool... forget it. This is an organization that is dedicated to the children. All fine and good, but no room for you in the summer. Hundreds of screamin kids (REALLY LOUD) and one hour a day at noon-time when adults can swim without being asked to move over ... Dont go there. I am having to buy an above ground pool at Wal-mart to place in my backyard. At YMCA charges of $50.00 a month, I will have the thing paid off in 6 months.

great for old people or the disabled. Horrible for adults. Classes are always packed and MOST of the facilities are occupied by these classes. Very small windows for swimming and the sauna is WAAY to small considering how many people pack in there. Last three days there have been no hot water and it seem like this is a reoccuring problem. Only reason I even pay what I do and btw is very overprice is because there is no other gym that offers kids stuff.

I LOVE this place! Ive had a membership for almost a year and have not had one bad experience with the staff or other patrons. I recently took advantage of the fitpath program and I highly recommend it as either a starting point or refresh of your routine. I had Mara as a coach and she was awesome. Long story short, this is a clean facility with an excellent staff. You wont be disappointed
