The short version: Good on site service but costly with seemingly arbitrary pricing. The long version: Two experiences with this company. 1st visit was to install an outlet in the ceiling for an LED cove light. Turned out the trough wasnt deep enough so Darrell and I brainstormed alternatives but decided to hold off. He hung a light in the foyer and replaced a timer with a light switch in the garage. The bill initially went to my spam folder so I didnt find out until later that they charged me $220 (after a $30 Angies list discount and before tax). 2nd visit was to figure out why a few outlets/lights werent working after we replaced some outlets. Friends & I tried to troubleshoot ourselves but the breaker started sparking so we were convinced it was a bigger issue. Turned out an outlet wasnt wired properly & the breaker wasnt a concern--resolved in about 15 minutes. I think the guys realized I was about to cry at the $210 bill and kindly offered to show me how to do a GFCI outlet since I had mentioned needing that but not being able to afford the $300-something for that and the troubleshoot. (The rub is it would have cost less for them to do all the GFCIs in the house than it did for them to find the problem outlet). I called the office to express the grief caused by the bill given the simplicity of the problem. I suppose I expected to get some understanding about the charge being incommensurate with the work. Winona offered $20 off bringing the total to $190. She also told me that seeing an electrician is like seeing a doctor -- you pay for their expertise not their time. Thats kind of like saying you should pay a very large minimum every time you see the doctor regardless of what the doctor does. If I tell the doctor I need knee surgery, and the doctor gives me a check up and says, "actually you have tendinitis. Ill wrap your knee," should I still be charged for knee surgery? Im happy to pay for peoples expertise and to support local businesses but no one wants to feel like they are paying an arbitrary price for a service. There are electricians in Oly with a more comprehensive & fair approach to pricing. With Shocking(ly expensive) Difference, you will get efficient and friendly on site service - just be aware that it will come at a steep cost.

Had a Zinsco panel changed out by Shawn and Zeb. They arrived right at the scheduled time and were very prompt with their work. Both of the guys were respectful of our home and all of our pets (which is a bit of a feat, dogs can go oitside, cats cant, Shawn and Zeb were always mindful of animals while going in or out). The work performed was top notch, quality replacement parts and Shawn was really good about telling us what was going on at each phase as we peek in throughout the day. The company owner Winona was as nice as could be and I really felt like she was trying to find us ways to reduce the cost of the project. Shocking Difference was the only company to provide a written estimate which did not change after work was completed. They were also the lowest bid we received from 4 different electricians in the area. Great company and great service. They will be my goto for any electrical work I need, and I would recommend them to anyone with confidence they will receive the same great service as we did. Thanks Shocking Difference.

I found Shocking Difference through Angies List and called them about updating kitchen lighting. From the first meeting until the end of the project, I was very impressed with not only the knowledge and experience this company has to offer but also the great customer service I received. They spent time with me helping me decide how to upgrade the lights and how it would look. Their price was fair and they gave me a discount for Angies List. The work was completed quicker than I thought which was also first class. They did a terrific job and cleaned up the area. I would never have known work was even done, until turning on the lights! I LOVE my new lights!! Thank you Shocking Difference! I will definitely be using them in the future for additional updates.

This company did everything possible to help us with a very tricky, messy problem. A case of DIY gone bad A tight escrow deadline, and the boondocks. Oh-Cold Pouring Rain and mysteriously switched. THEY WERE Wonderful!!! Fast, neat, very knowledgeable. They sorted out the Goat Rope electrical, MAKING IT SAFE, Legal, and passing Appraisers reinspect in record time. I felt they were quit reasonable, especially given the scope of the work. I would highly recommend this company. They go above and beyond. And-they are nice. Courteous. Fantastic experience from the very start. I had never used them before. Darrell responded to a request for a bid to change out my residential service panel. He evaluated the situation and mentioned some options and alternatives. Sent his quote be e-mail within a week and was able to do the job within 2 1/2 weeks. Tom and mike were very knowledgeable and kept the place clean with their little booties, cleaned up when they were done. Winona has been great on the scheduling and on the phone, price was very reasonable and overall the experience was great. They will be the ones I call whenever I need anything electrical done. I would highly recommend Shocking Difference to any and all friends and relatives.

I had an electrical problem on Sunday. My manufactured home had power to some areas, but no or greatly reduced power to others. I called several electricians from the yellow pages, but received no return calls. I contacted Shocking Difference through servicemagic and was contacted by Winona and Darrell within a half hour. They made some suggestions to try before coming out, trying to save me a service call. When those did not fix the problem, They were here within an hour. There were unexpected problems, but they stayed until almost 9PM to fix the problem and didnt charge me a higher rate for a weekend call. Thanks and 10 stars to them.

I couldnt be happier with the service I received from Shocking Difference! They came out to my home even though I am quite a ways away and outside of their normal service area. Prior to the visit, Winona had me take pictures of the installation area and worked extensively with me so that we both knew exactly what we were going to do during the visit, and so they could provide an accurate estimate before even seeing the site. Shawn and Adam were extremely efficient, friendly and helpful. They helped me with a couple of issues unrelated to the main job, and finished everything in a professional, clean manner. It looks great!

Im a electrically knowledgeable home owner in the Olympia area. Ive used Shocking Difference several times for large and small jobs including adding a subpanel plus generator plug and transfer switch. Ive always been very satisfied with this company. Good people who give personalized service, quality work, and clearly care about having satisfied customers. Darryl has addressed a few minor issues without cost literally years after the work was performed. This is a company I always go back to when I need electrical work. (And I dont have any connection to anyone at the company beyond their providing electrical services.)
