Pay the extra money to hire a Professional company. They will move you faster so even if the hourly rate is higher, you will still save money because you wont be paying for as many hours. I was quoted 4-5 hour move by most companies and since this one was the cheapest I went with them. It took over 9 HOURS!!!! So it ended up costing me more AND I lost out on 4 hours of unpacking on the day of the move. The movers didn’t move a single item in the first 30 minutes of our move. One of the movers was slow as molasses walking up and down the stairs. He wasn’t able to move our mattress (one of the biggest reasons we hired movers was so we wouldn’t have to move the heavy stuff ourselves) When the truck was half full he started complaining that it would take us two trips. He cost me additional hours of work b/c of the 2 trips and his overall laziness. When unloading at our new house, he was in the truck folding blankets and rolling up straps instead of moving our items. Moving is stressful and expensive. SS Movers let me down by costing me more time and money than was necessary. I will not be recommending to friends nor personally using Starving Students again. Buyer Beware!

6/26/2013- I went with this company because a friend referred us and they were the cheapest of 3 quotes. I called several times in the days before my move to confirm, ask questions, etc. On the day of the move my husband and I both took off work and my parents were in town to help unpack. They were scheduled to arrive at 1pm. At 1:15 and no show/call I called customer service who referred me to the branch and I left a message there. At 1:30, no call so I called again and wrote down the number of the branch manager and left him a voicemail. At 1:45, no call so I try both #s again and then finally customer service who said they would call the Regional Manager and figure out what was going on. I heard back around 2:15pm and he said they had a broken down truck, but that they could come tomorrow with a UHaul or Penske truck--oh and they would take $10 off. I said you can do it for half the price and, after checking with the manager, no deal. SO, we ended up renting our own UHaul and getting friends/family to help last minute. What a frustrating experience. I dont believe for one second there was a broken truck. They likely overbooked the first job or plain just didnt show up.

Horrendous experience on a local move. Starving Students crew of 4 showed up 2.5 hours late, talked on their cell phones and texted throughout their "work day" while moving slowly and taking frequent breaks, took an hour+ for lunch, did damage to both homes of origin and destination by banging furniture into walls and molding, refused to move a treadmill saying it was "too heavy and awkward to fit in the door so they would leave it in the driveway" leaving it to me and my 9 year old daughter to move (which she and i did with no problem) and in the end attempted to overbill me for over 2 hours more than they were actually there. I continue to deal with them in their attempt to collect for more time than they worked, and I never recovered damages for the holes they put in the walls and damage to the furniture they moved. Awful.

They were 2 hours late for the appointment (OK, they gave me $10 off for that). They didnt have any tools to fragment and then re-assemble the bed (how can a professional mover not have any tools? I asked them to go buy one and he said he doesnt have a dime in his pocket and of-course no credit card etc. so I had to buy tools for them) And at the destination, our carpets were new, so I asked them to wear booties, they didnt have any, when I was insistent, they first called their manager (they call their manager for every little thing by the way, even though he doesnt pick up ...) then they told me they have a life (not sure what that was supposed to mean...), then they "remembered" that they are not allowed to wear booties for safety... Overall, it was a pretty bad moving experience...

On the day of the move, they informed me there had been a mix up and that they wouldnt be able to make their move time. When they finally showed up, they were disorganized and did not pay attention to items that needed to go. They did not deliver a mirror and a lamp, did not put the furniture back together or put it where I wanted it. They were in a hurry to make their next job and did not provide good service. The Seattle office said that I would get a 3rd man free and would receive a discount as well. They provided the third man (who they would never have been able to do without in the first place) and then did not provide any discount. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.

Chancy as to the service you will get. Roommate had a good experience, though they were 4 hours late showing up. So, I called them. First excuse was a truck had an accident. Second, was that the window was 4 hours, and they would be there that morning. Third, the lady in the office wasnt there yet. Fourth, after being transferred three times, a curt young lady informed me that because I hadnt responded to a voicemail, no truck was guaranteed, but that she might be able to get a truck out in two days. In spite of the English accents, seems a very unprofessional, unreliable outfit. Would not ever call them again.

The worst experience I have ever had with any company. I should have read the reviews and gone with someone else. They cancelled my move without telling me. I had to phone on the morning of my move to find out that they apparently had no crew available. When I asked what I could do, the lady in the Seattle regional office asked if I had internet access so I could look up some other moving companies in the area. Then I called their regional director, and he spared no effort in assuring me that he couldnt do anything to help. His suggestion? Use the Yellow Pages. Choose another mover.

If you want a mover to show up three hours late with a drunk off the street use this mover. I had such a bad experience with them. They broke my microwave. The drunk guy from of the street droped it. The guy working for starving students admitted he found him off the street. Another guy quit on him that morning. It took them an hour to show up from three blocks away to my new place!! Trust me do not use these guys. BAD!!! BAD!! JUST PLAIN BAD!!!!
