Laundry Mart 6th Avenue, run by a husband-wife team, opened doors in 2006 in a building that used to house a restaurant. The front dining area, not fully visible from the back, now houses the self-serve washers and dryers. The back room, around the corner, has bathrooms/sofa/TV/snacks/kids’ play area/video games/ service counter. For drop-off laundry, at $1.19/pound, your clothes are weighed at a scale next to the service counter. They are then tagged and washed out front in the self-service washers and dryers, and folded in back. Because there are no vending machines, the staff is often busy selling snacks at the counter from the snack displays, as well as laundry supplies. Because they are out in the front area cleaning and helping customers, they can’t always keep an eye on the folding-in-progress in the back. Thieves take advantage of this distraction frequently, victimizing both customers and the laundry itself. When thefts occur, the management of Laundry Mart prefers to baulk at the issue or refund money with in-house credit rather than cash for the damages. For self-service, you load a card with money and start your own-machines, with an early-bird special weekday mornings which drops the price on some machines. However, some of these machines are used by the staff for commercial accounts. The machines and the hot-water heaters are state-of-the-art, but the timers on the machines are not set to wait for the water to fill before starting the cycle. Also,” F2” lights flash on the digital washer displays when the drain is clogged and held open from the previous washing. The end result of these factors is that the self-service washers are sometimes all in use; sometimes available but don’t fill up with water fully on busy days; or if they fill drain the water back out. On busy days, then, the staff must run around with water jugs trying to fill machines manually. Overall, the laundry is clean and high-class, but this 6th-avenue neighborhood that has two correctional facilities as neighbors is not really a high-class area. Theft inside and outside is common due to the “mixed” clientele of customers and non-customers hanging out in the laundromat. The staff is faced frequently with angry customers whose washers don’t work, whose clothes are stolen, who aren’t allowed to pay at the counter with their credit or debit cards, or who want to have their laundry card balances refunded. There is no sign stating what the cutoff time is for putting in your last load, and some customers have gotten angry with staff for being confronted about starting their wash real close to the 10pm closing time. The laundry is open 7-10 seven days a week, and has the capacity for a lot of laundry to be done weekly in modern machines. The policies of the management need to be improved to ensure that the issues of theft, water flow, cutoff times, and the distractions and confrontations of the staff. They also need to post instructional signs explaining how to start the washers and dryers properly with the computerized cards they issue.

HORRIBLE SERVICE! I have been coming here for over 3 years. Today me and my girlfriend had to do laundry, as we were removing a load from a washer, we noticed a used condom in the machine that was not tied off. I stopped, asked the attendant to come take a look so we could figure out how to rectify the situation. This was a load that contained delicates, which I was not comfortable having myself or my girlfriend wear again. She called the owner, who told her to do nothing. I filled out a form and that was all they did for me. I then told her to call the owner back to see what he could do. She handed the phone to me, the owner was extremely rude, threatened me with a lawyer if I were to do anything, and told me there was nothing that they would do. They then had us escorted off premises. Do not go here. If anything goes wrong, they will not help you.

Went to the one on S Hosmer street for first time and saw the odd prices on the machines and then only uses their own cards. They wont refund any amounts left on the cards so you loose that money especially when you have odd prices for the washers and dryers. Then the washing machines are so small and if you want a normal size washer be ready to pay like $5.00 or $8.00 and then the dryers dont dry very well so you spend quite a bit. This was my first and last time to this location. Way too expensive and no refunds for money left on card. Only nice thing was the attendant and her assistance. Nothing else going for this place. Avoid it and go back to a coin operator machine.

Best laundromat in the area. I actually drive all the way from Parkland just to use this place. You get a swipe card that you reload instead of having to use quarters. Large machines big enough to wash six loads at once. Always clean and not too busy. The only complaint I have is sometimes the swipe machine on a washer wont be working and you end up having to tranfer your soapy clothes to another washer. They should test these every morning so they can close the machine for maintenance if its not working. There is another location on Hosmer but that one is typically busier and not as clean.

Normally I would leave a 4 or 5 star, and usually this place is my go to for laundry but considering the price I feel that the AC (air conditioning) should be on in August! I could save my self a trip and a few dollars to stay on my end of town and sweat in a room full of hot dryers.... just sayin! Plus a lot of signs on machines saying they are broken lately....

I have done my laundary at this location a couple of times. Each time, my laundary smells like pesticides. When I do my laundary at home, it never smells like pesticdes. I asked the attendent if they put anything into the washers that might make them smell, and she said no. But I dont understand that pesticde smell. Needless to say, I am not going back.

The Laundry Mart is one of several laundry establishments that offer the option of dropping the clothes off and returning to have them done and folded. Good choice, and a little less expensive than similar places. If you choose to do your own laundry, the machines are modern and the place is well-lit and well-run. Recommended.
