About 1 1/2 years ago we went here to get a wig for my teen daughter with alopecia. Neither of us have forgotten it. I found the wigs to be more expensive than other Madison wig providers. There was a small section, and once ordered, we were obligated to pay and keep it, even if we didnt like it. However, that was not even the worst of it. I found the owner unacceptable. I should have guessed his personality based on the huge portrait of him in the lobby. Then, though we had an appointment for a wig consult, the owner had the room we were suppose to use, so we didnt have access to all the wig information. Then we were across the hall from the owner and I we could easily hear his entire conversation, every other word was inappropriate.

Just from reading responses to valid complaints, I will not be going there on my way home from work today. A woman wrote a post 2 years ago that said "1 1/2 years ago", which would make the total time, over 3.5 years ago. So the "new" owners reply 1 month ago that they KNOW this comment must be false because over 1.5 years ago Gene was diagnosed with cancer. Well, since they were there 3.5 years ago, I guess its entirely possible they were there while Gene was, and that gives their post credit, and makes the owners response moot.

I am a native Madisonian who has alopecia and needs a full wig at all times. After visiting and purchasing items from Genes a couple times I soon realized their products and services are extremely overpriced, since they have the full market in Madison. Wigs and wig services can be purchased in any other big city for much less money and much better service. I was also very disappointed with the lack of courtesy and caring given to a person with no hair, who after 7 years, is still embarrassed by my condition.

I was new to Madison WI area.I wear a hair piece.I went to Genes for about little more than year,they are very pricy and not very good in service.Every time I have gone there for the same service prices were different without any explanations in fact the last time they have admitted that they have overcharge me and still owe me $7.Now Im having the same haircare and better service from other haircare business in city for lot less money.

Tanya is very skilled at bringing out the best in my stick-straight thinning hair. I have had two PERFECT shampoo/cut/styles by her this year (2016) and have just scheduled my third. I love having a private individual room, even for a simple haircut. There are cheaper haircuts out there, in noisy salons where you wait and receive services out in the open. But Im heading back to Avvair and Tanya.

I have been seeing Tanya for several years. I followed her to Avvair from another salon as its rare that you find a colorist/ stylist as professional and caring. The staff is friendly, including the owner who is a magnificent female business owner! While the building itself is a bit older, I appreciate the private rooms that lend to courteous attention and private conversation.

I love how sweet and friendly everyone is! Private rooms for haircuts, delicious door county coffee, clean and organized waiting area, and very professional staff! I would highly recommend this place for all your hair needs! Wigs, hair pieces, color, etc! They pretty much do it all :D

I have been getting hair cuts, styles, and beard trims by Tanya and Deb for three years. They do an excellent job! Better than any other stylists and salons that I have gone to in the past. The reception staff and stylists are top notch. I appreciate the free premium coffee.

When I went there not too long ago it as called Genes which I believe had a pretty good reputation. However, I have worn a hairpiece for 30 years and this was by far the most expensive and worst one I have ever had, very disappointed with the product and the poor service.

The staff is so friendly-Tanya has been taking care of my hair ever since I moved to the Madison area-I like her at the Avvair salon!!! Nice place too!! I would highly recommend Avvair to anyone-BTW they are all good listeners too :)
