After going into the cafe at lunch with a group (10) and ordering and paying for drinks and sandwiches to be told off by a rude barista. Understanding that the group was, indeed, large, but the DEMAND to call in before coming because the cafe only has ONE employee working at lunch hour was definitely not appreciated. Especially after the cafe made over $130 off of the group, alone, not including tips, and that the group did wait patiently for the drinks and food to arrive. In previous stops at Roast, the same, rude barista was repeatedly impatient and pushy when customers did not know exactly what they wanted when they came in, even though there was no line, and served the "hot" drinks cold. Love the drinks at Roast (specifically the Crackhead, Apple Chaider, and Vanilla Chai) when they are made correctly

Hip, medium sized, neighborhood coffee shop on a residential corner. Brick and wood decor, with old tin ceiling, ducts, and tile/mosaic floor. Alt rock a bit loud on the audio, and the acoustics are such that the (fairly constant) barrista conversations tend to carry : this is biggest downside. A dozen tables and a couple of short bars with tall chairs. Most of the tables have nice old leather restaurant style benches on one side. Several of the tables are wobbly. Plenty of outlets. Free wi-fi with no password. Small selection of Rishi loose leaf teas, none very exciting. Chai lattes are Rishi. Small but yummy looking selection of breakfast and lunch things. Small selection of pretty boring pastries. Torn between 3 and 4 stars - this place has a mix of strengths and weaknesses.

I got an iced drink and had some leftover that I couldnt bring with me since I biked there and as a former barista I know how leaky garbage bags come from people pouring their unwanted coffee in the trash. So I went up some older looking guy at the counter who mustve been a manager or something because he was counting money and I asked if there was a place I could dump out the extra coffee. He rolled his eyes because I mustve made him lose his count because counting money is so really hard, I know. Ok but he rolled his eyes, looked back down at his money, and just said "no." He couldnt even tell me an alternative for my leftover coffee, but whatever. Leaky garbage bags for yall.

Good price on breakfast bagel and nice atmosphere. Been there at least ten times in last 6 years. Almost every time the service is poor. Flat out troubled to serve you. Got a hot chocolate that was lukewarm at best, the person offered to put it in the microwave. Any Batista should cringe at that. I also had an argument with another Batista here about the cup size. He said it was 12 ounces. Was 10. He through a fit. To his credit he later apologized. I guess this must be one of those handful of authentic coffee shops. Why else would you feel like you are putting the staff out?

I love Roast. Where I live, I have many good coffee house options. Roast, however, excels over the rest in numerous ways. The coffee and espresso are consistantly excellent. Good coffee, excellent grinding and consistant prepration. Also, the owner regularly tries to improve his already superb brewing methods. Hes a coffee aficionado and is very meticulous about everything in his shop. Finally, its just a fun place be. Cozy decor, great food (sandwiches) and awesome coffee. I cant see a reason to go anywhere else.

Ordered a breve latte. Good service, but the coffee itself was burned in the roast and thus rendered an extremely bitter cup. Extremely limited syrup selection. Wifi is free, but only for 60 minutes. Speeds are pathetic, sitting around 1 Mbps down, 200 Kbps up. In short, I do *not* recommend this coffee shop. Head to one of the three nearby Starbucks, or better yet walk two blocks north and go to The Grind in the UWM Union second floor.

Extremely slow service, coffee is bitter. They dont accept debit card transactions under $5, super inconvenient for this generation that dont carry cash. Youre better off going to the UWM union Grind which is actually amazing or even one of the 2 Starbucks in the area. Trying too hard to be cool, alienating customers. Best of luck to you, not going back.

Cant believe I havent worked here in the 22 years I lived in MKE. Great coffee (especially their cold brew with citrus and almond & the April in Paris) but even nicer work environment where you can either hole yourself off or sit in front of the windows for summer sun.

The ice coffee was absolutely amazing. Price was good also, and the owner/operator was very friendly and knowledgeable. I am sorry it is so far away, I would definitely be a regular customer. Living in Maryland is a little too far to travel, even for amazing coffee.

Great atmosphere for studying, grabbing a coffee with friends, etc. Ive tasted almost every drink on the menu, and they are all consistently good. Theres nice outdoor seating in summer months and everchanging artwork on the walls to add to the relaxing atmosphere.

Consistently great coffee and breakfast. Feels great to support a local coffee shop and still have consistent results every time. Coy atmosphere in a perfect and safe location. Just make sure you specify if you want pour over as opposed to their drip!

Ryan has continually supported the community over the years with a knowledgeable and yes-man attitude. This is a spot that I will always go to. Great food, great coffee, speakers, shows, and door prize donations for our shows elsewhere in the past.

Latte was okay (milk not very foamy). Music choice was horrible though; screamo rock! I could barely have my meeting, and we took it elsewhere as soon as the drinks were gone. Turn it down, or change the vibe. Its a coffee shop, for goshdarn sake!

Always amazing coffee. Staff is friendly. It would be good if AM staff were always on time and if they had two people till like 9am to make food and do coffee drinks. Even tho i work up the street, I dont come as much because of the wait.

My favorite neighborhood coffee place. Used to be able to stop more regularly before class, but now my visits are special occasions. Good coffee, well crafted, good sandwiches, good atmosphere and meeting place.

Great atmosphere with lots of care that goes into the cup of coffee. This is hands down the best coffee in Milwaukee. You HAVE to go taste it yourself to believe it! Two thumbs up!

Best coffee, worst service! Theyre slow and rude. Youll never be greeted and the closest thing to "thank you" or "youre welcome" that youll get is "yup".

Best coffee Ive had in a long time. Their everything bagel with cream cheese, dill, tomato, and cucumber is to die for...and I hate tomatoes!
