We joined the 60-day challenge and were given almost no information on what the heck we were supposed to do over the 8 week program. Once we paid the $80 sign up fee, the trainers were more preoccupied with selling us a training session than teaching us how to accomplish our 60 day goals. My wife injured her foot during the "Try-it Tuesday: Week 5 Burn the Bird", because the trainer told everyone to incline their treadmills and start running instead giving us a safe warm up. She is now out completely from the 60 day training program because of torn ligaments in her toes, and is on crutches. No refunds. I brought my wife to the water aerobics class which the current fitness schedule states is on Thursdays at 6:00pm so that she could exercise while in recovery. There was no class and all three pools were filled with children jumping between lanes and running helter skelter virtually unsupervised. When I asked one of the life guards who was in charge, I was told to speak to a "Deborah". When I asked Deborah where the water aerobics class was, she promptly replied, "This is a reserved time for the childrens competitive swim, Monday - Friday 3:30pm - 6:30pm, 365 days a year. If the class isnt here, its because we were here first." Then, Deborah professed that her children were a part of this swim meet, so I have to just swim some other time. Ive been a member of Lifetime fitness for 5 years and this location is my home gym; never been treated like a second-class member by an LT employee until now. The Phoenix metropolitan has dozens of public pools which are tax-payer funded, and certainly more than available for childrens swim teams. Deborah claimed that her children pay more for their memberships than we do. Her words. We pay $175/month for a private gym because we expected unfettered access to these world-class health club amenities and its 3 swimming pools. Is there some exclusive group at Lifetime that gets more benefits than other members? We were contacted by a "Randy", the studio manager, and her response was that we were wrong because she saw Paula, the water aerobics instructor, in the pool area waiting for people to show up. What kind of manager attacks the customer for making a complaint and then insinuates they are lying?! Im not sure of what would even motivate someone to go through all this drama just to make a bogus complaint involving the right to attend a fitness class at a private pool. Again, this level of managerial ineptitude is new for us. Some other managers are great, and this lack of receptiveness may not be endemic, but this is a leadership issue. Who would appoint someone like this to be a manager? If we felt that our complaints were being heard, then we wouldnt resort to google reviews to vent our frustrations. If you decide to get a membership here, you may be disappointed to discover that any complaints you may have in the future will be ignored and even ridiculed by certain managers. Whatever you do, the pools are are almost impossible for regular members to use from 3:30pm - 6:30pm, Monday thru Friday, because of managements decision to allow it to become an after school water park for random children. Not worth the monthly dues if you get off work in the afternoons as well as for a private gym that stonewalls its own members. Even the pools drains are starting to turn yellow. Disgusting. Hope that helps.

HELP! - Life Time Fitness - Scottsdale is so ridiculous! I will NEVER step foot in one of their gyms ever again. A patient of the surgeon I work for had to get reconstructive surgery at the end of June 2013 and another revision at the end of October. Prior to the patients first surgery it was informed to several personal trainers that the member wouldnt be able to attend their establishment due to unforeseen circumstances. Long story short, Lifetime Fitness had been charging his card over $100 every month for 6 months. Finally now that our patient is able to attend to other obligations - he had realized what was going on and tried calling the establishment to let them know he hasnt even stepped foot in the gym since his surgery in June (which can be validated by their records). They told him he needed medical documentation to support his story and he contacted me. The doctor and I wrote a letter and I faxed it over. I called the gym and tried getting through to Chris who is the regional manager, but he is always in "meetings" so I spoke with Jennifer who attends to financial handlings. She told me their "medical policy" is they can not retro date a medical freeze. I asked her if the patient could not get refunded if they can apply his payments for future use. She stated they absolutely would not be able to because that is their policy and it was his "fault" he did not provide the documentation sooner - despite having already informed his personal trainer and several others. Aside from her unknowledgeable and highly unwarranted remarks, she proceeded to say that "trainers dont count". First hand experience, when I signed up with Lifetime Fitness they did not disclose to me their policies and when I asked to have my contract sent to me nowhere on it did it specify the protocol for obtaining a medical freeze on your account or any stipulations incase you should need one. I find myself torn with trying to rationalize their professionalism and how these are justifiable excuses. I called the corporate office who confirmed they do not retro date medical freezes. Respecting patient confidentiality I am limited with what I can divulge about our patient, but I reassured her as best as I could that he would have been unable to attend to other obligations. She told me to send the documentation to member relations. Wishful thinking... is their a glimmer of hope??? Highly doubtful and in the meantime, our patient had cancelled the automatic withdrawal through his bank. If this isnt resolved the way it should be, I feel obligated to educate, not to be confused with slandering, the public of their bad business and their situationally based arising "policies." My take away message to Lifetime Fitness - Lets get real, your fees arent exactly competitive and you are not going to be accommodating to your members??? Take care of who takes care of you, if it werent for your members you wouldnt be employed nor in business. This member had been dedicated to your establishment for years... and it is evident that your "valued members" are nothing more than merely financial resources. Furthermore, what does it cost your stupid gym for him to walk through your air conditioned doors and use your machines? He already made 6 months of payments in which he did not get anything out of and you mean to tell me you simply cant apply the payments?

In terms of overall quality, this is the best gym in Scottsdale. I was planning on leaving this gym because my girlfriend has started exercising and wants to expand beyond her apartment workout room. However this is a very expensive gym and I felt bad asking her to pay$90 a month, so I shopped around to my old gyms (and some new ones). What I discovered made me realize how much gym related non-sense I DON’T DEAL WITH at lifetime. For example, many reviews for the main “Globo gyms” all mentioned two things. One, the equipment is always run down and often out of order for repair. This is something I use to hate at Pure Fitness and LA Fitness, the quality and care in those gyms was reflected in there very low monthly rates. The other key issue was contracts and cancelation policy, which I can attest to, it’s a nightmare leaving one of those gyms. My point in all this is I have only been focused on the cost of Lifetime Fitness as a negative and became naïve to all the great things they do for us members, and have completely forgotten what it’s like to be a member in a “Globo Gym.” It’s also a true 24/7 gym, I even worked out on xmas in 2009 because the opened at 3pm (xmas eve to xmas 3pm is the only time this gym closes). I also like the lack of kids in this gym which I think is a result of the high member cost. Gym etiquette could improve at Lifetime, many of the members are not people who live or grew up in a gym so there unaware of a lot of improper things they do. Aside from that I really have no complaints. I’m about to head in now to add my girlfriend to my account, I currently pay $70 since I got a deal when I signed up and they’re matching that to add her which I think is a great deal with no contract. Regular monthly fee is $90 though.
