Extremely dishonest with sub par work. Im not sure how this place has 5 stars. Id give it 0 if it were possible. Let me enlighten you. I took my Jeep there to get a lift kit. It was a 2" spacer lift that mounts directly to the struts. First of all, the owner quoted me $300 to install the lift. I thought that was a fair deal, so I dropped it off that morning. I got a call that afternoon from the shop telling me the price is "going to be a little bit higher than expected." Apparently, they didnt do their research on how to install a suspension lift on an "05 Grand Cherokee, so it was going to take them longer than they had previously thought. However, they had already installed the rear portion of the lift kit. Why would you call someone half way through the job? What am I supposed to do? Pick my jeep up with HALF of it lifted? If they had called and told me this before they had even touched the vehicle, I would have came and picked it up. Anyways, I drove over there the next morning to pick it up, and he wanted to charge me $100 dollars more than his original quote. How is it my fault he didnt do his research before he gave me the initial quote? I gave him the Year, Make and Model of the vehicle when I called him. Anyways, I talked him down $20 and bit the bullet. But it gets WORSE. Upon inspection under my hood, I realized the mechanics broke the mount to the electrical box (you have to remove it to install the lift). AND they forgot to replace a nut on the mount as well. Shortly after, I drove to a different mechanic to get an alignment. They did a free inspection for me and told me my struts needed replaced because they were leaking fluid. REALLY?! 1st Rock Auto charged me almost $400 to install spacers on my struts AND DIDNT TELL ME MY STRUTS WERE BAD. So now, Im taking it to a more trustworthy shop to essentially redo the job 1st Rock Auto was supposed to do in the first place. Needless to say, Ill never take another vehicle there again.

I had a few issues with this shop. I took in a 1988 jeep Cherokee with the sole purpose of getting it to pass emissions. Karl claimed he could get anything to pass. After a day of work they couldnt get it to pass emissions. He called my jeep a pos and made an excuse about the make and year of the engine being the reason it wouldnt pass. I was charged $400 for work that didnt translate into the results I needed. I took the jeep to another shop that specializes in emissions and they were ale to fix it to get through emissions. Second incident I had with them I took them a snorkel I wanted installed on the same jeep. After one of their mechanics examined the jeep and the snorkel he said it couldnt be done. Karl made the assumption that the snorkel was not made for my jeep but for a Toyota. I said ok and they offered to buy the snorkel off me because they work on many Toyota 4x4 trucks. I sold them the snorkel. A few months later I wasnt convinced that it couldnt be done so I purchased the same snorkel again off the internet and did some research on some jeep forums. I installed the snorkel myself on my own driveway. Although I did have issues with this shop I still recommend it to people who have small problems with their cars because their prices are cheap so if you need a quick fix for cheap I would go to them. Karl the owner however has a rude attitude and is hard to deal with. Customer service is not a value that he possesses. You somewhat feel as if he is doing you the favor for working on your vehicle, dont feel welcomed at all.

Karl initially contacted me on 9-14-12, in response to an ad I placed on Craigs List to repair a 1994 Ford F-150 which I repaired. A few weeks later, Karls mechanics fixed an overheating problem in another truck of mine after which I wrote a favorable review on Google +. My next few engagements were unpleasant, so I edited my review to read as follows: "Although Karl initially fixed a simple problem for free, thereafter I paid for work even though the problem was not solved. I discovered his "Car Talk" advice is usually wrong. He is difficult to get along with and considers clients "squirrels." His shop is a mess. When pressed for cash, hell renege on a deal." Karl did not discover my edited review until 4/19/13. Upon discovery, he sent a threatening email followed by a voice message claiming that he would shoot me in the heart, and kill my sons for posting the above review. Further-- that he would be willing to do 15-25 years in jail (apparently Karl believes he would not get the death penalty for reasons of insanity). This from someone who claimed to be my friend. While Karl may work wonders for young coeds who know nothing about cars, to leave a voice message threatening murder over a bad review is criminal at worst and a cry for help at best. Im hoping that airing this in public will help him realize the necessity of changing his approach to inter-personal relationships, especially if he intends to operate a small business.

I’m not interested in paying a secretary’s salary, office space, or for computers and software. When you take your vehicle in for repair and sit down with the service writer who then enters your complaints into a computer, well, you just know you’re in the wrong place. I’m interested in fixing my car. Karl, the owner of First Rock, meets you in the lot to discuss what you need. He has never failed to do this. He’s a little gruff and may not be in a pin stripped suit but he will give you an estimate to fix what you believe is the problem. Likely his estimate is about half of what the other guy wants out of your pocket. In the background you’ll hear the whirr of wrenches as Aaron clicks through the drives. It’s grease monkey heaven. In all likelihood you simply don’t know what you need to bring your car back to roadworthy condition but rest assured you will get an honest assessment and a reasonable cost to repair the issues. I’m a contractor and I use my vehicles. First Rock has brought my 1986 4runner back to life and put the bounce back into my 2000 Tacoma. I can load 20+ sheets of 4 x 8 OSB, various porch lumber, tools, fasteners, and the Taco drives like its nearly empty. I can’t say how much I appreciate being able to load up, turn on the AC, and still get 21 – 23 miles per gallon in each vehicle. TOYOTA BABY! . . thanks Karl.
