Knowing friends that have been involved in Crossfit and being told that I should try it out, I was skeptical. Thinking that it was going to be another fad that would come and go. Man was I wrong. After seeing the results on them in a short time period, I knew I had to give it a shot. Im picky when it comes to certain things b/c once Im committed, theres no turning back. Thats just my motto. Its either all in or nothing at all. So I honestly did weekly research for probably about 2 months of different gyms. Called many gyms and asked about pricing, how many coaches to member ratios, schedules and even asked about what they thought about other boxes. I went to a few to check them out and see how their box operated. Well each time I left or got off the phone I was still unsure even though there were some potential ones I possibly couldve called "home". Some were really close to home and some had really good pricing. But that was until I stepped foot into Crossfit Riot. Just to get it out of the way, I didnt choose this gym b/c its on the way to work but it was nice to know it was. I couldve chose a gym on the way to home or even 2 miles from home but I didnt. I spoke with Derek over the phone he was straight to the point and was honest. Dont waste my time and I wont waste yours. Exactly what I was looking for! Once I got there and saw how the training was and that each class was broken down to about 15 members at max so the coaches can focus on the members I was very pleased. There were 4 main coaches that I met that day and till this day, they are VERY helpful and always pleased to see you back in each day. Everything from the environment, the people, the way its ran and not forgetting the very sick looking artwork on the walls, makes this box stand out from all the others that Ive seen. They didnt bad mouth other gyms when I asked about it but considered all of Crossfit as a family. Their prices are fair even though some other ones are cheaper but with more coaches here, I gladly pay the extra $10-$20/month compared to other ones Ive visited. So in my search of a box to call home..I can honestly say, I found it. Crossfit Riot has pushed my limits and I will continue to use their motivation to excel and hopefully be good enough to compete at the games some day. So dont be worried about not being fit enough for crossfit. It is made for people of all shapes, sizes and ages. They recently had more members join so to accomodate that, theyre moving next door to a bigger facility. The artwork over there is even bigger and better. Theres alot more room to get your WOD done. Once the new facility is opened, I might even stay for more classes or just to hang out more. The coaches have made it enjoyable each day and there isnt a day that I dont look forward into coming in for a workout. You totally get your moneys worth and you meet people with the same goals and such a positive attitude. Everyone wants to help each other out and it really is like a family. Come check out Crossfit Riot if youre in town. You wont be disappointed. Thank you CF Riot!! Come get some!!

While they may fit a certain demographic, they are not for everyone. I tried them out after purchasing a 30 trial from OC Register Deals. It was supposed to be 30 days and include nutrition advice etc... The first day I went was high pressure to sign a membership stating, "You will either join after 3 days or quit, thats the way everyone is." It is a warehouse/gym which serves the purpose very well, however I hope you dont mind dog hair. They had a couple black labs and anytime you were doing something on the floor you got up covered in dog hair. Dont think I am a dog hater, I have a full sized doberman and home and he is an indoor dog, but I keep it clean and dont enjoy rolling around in dog hair. The instructor was dropping F-Bombs constantly, which again, may work for some, but not so much for me. If it is that much a part of his vocabulary, he should do a little reading and come up with some other words to use. So, if you want to get your butt kicked in a workout and get in great shape while rolling around in dog hair and listening to F-Bombs, this is the place for you. They will challenge you and you will end up in better shape than you have probably ever been in. But, while that may work for some, it does not for me. Edit: Free speech is alive and well in the United States, apparently just not in Brea, CA. Do you wonder why there are no negative reviews for Crossfit Riot? Perhaps its because if you post something other than a glowing review, you get the following email like I did over on yelp. "Hello Richard I am the owner of CrossFit Riot. Its unfortunate you had a bad experience at my gym. However, the waiver that you signed before working out at Riot clearly states that if you have any issues with my facility or staff that you must contact me before posting any negative review on the internet. We would love to have you at Riot but I have to let you know that I have your waiver that clearly states that you must contact me before posting any negative review on any site online. This waiver has your email address, phone number, and address. If you do not take this review down I will be forced to send your information to my lawyer and yelp along with a copy of this review. Please let me know if you have any questions." My review simply stated the facts of my experience there. They do fit a certain demographic, as do all businesses. They have found a niche and are apparently filling it nicely. There are lots of different workout options out there because there are lots of different people. Crossfit Riot is good at what they do, and many people enjoy it. I did not.

I started at CrossFit Riot in November of 2011. Originally I was pretty skeptical about the idea of CrossFit in general. All I had seen was people doing long circuit work outs and laying on the floor afterwards. I came to realize that each CrossFits gym has its own style and I love what CrossFit Riot is all about. The owner Derek and the staff have created a family atmosphere that makes you want come work out with your friends. In addition they have a wealth of knowledge in the strength and conditioning field. They teach proper technique for Olympic lifts, power lifts, and gymnastics. My favorite part about CrossFit Riot is the way they program the work outs. Riot has made me stronger and faster, while making me lose body fat and build muscle. My roommate goes to a different CrossFit closer to home and is always jealous of Riots work outs.

Alright, so exercise definitely wasnt my forte. So when one of my friends recommended that I join her at the intense-work-out-place she called crossfit I just laughed. It definitely wasnt something I could see myself doing. But then I realized that I definitely wasnt going anywhere with what I was doing--Soooo I went to Crossfit Riot for day one. Its been about a month now and I can honestly say that it is one of the best things to happen to me. Of course Im still new and still have a lot to learn as well as a lot to go but I can confidently say that its a "life-changer" (cheesy I know haha). Everyone is so friendly, and helpful--its like a family. If I can do it, anyone can do it! Crossfit Riot is aaaamazzingggg!
