I usually dont write reviews but reading what Michael wrote, I have to definitely defend Steve. Ive been with American gym for almost 3 months. I go there almost everyday training Muay Thai (which is a great class too, Franky is the man!) and also Steves boxing sparring classes to enhance my boxing skills. I knew Steve knows whats up ever since the first time I checked out his sparring class. If youre new, hell jump in the ring with you, spar for a few rounds and give you pointers here and there and never leaves you hanging. I definitely learn a lot from the guy so far. The more advanced people there are also very helpful and want you to improve along with them. Ive spent quite some time visiting different gyms around OC to find one that will teach me good muay thai and boxing (not just cardio classes) and affordable, and this place is the one!

I went to check out American Gym in Costa Mesa because a friend of mine goes there. I went during the day and when I walked in it wasnt too crowded like alot of other places like 24 or Ballys. I talked to a guy named Jeff who showed me around the place and talked to me about the classes they have and what I wanted to do. I told him that I liked the UFC and he said that they have several boxing, kickboxing, and muay thai classes and that they also have an MMA class called Hybrid Fight School there and that he is the instructor for it. He offered to let me try the class for free so I did. It was great. I didnt realize how much of workout it is to do that kind of stuff. Anyway, this gym has a ton of good classes, good instructors, and a full weight room just like 24 hour but less corporate. I recommend it for anyone, guys or girls.

Unbelievable experience daily! Ive been an athlete my entire life and have developed relationships with a lot of coaches, trainers, ect. throughout. As a competitive athlete/trainer myself its easy to walk around with a chip on your shoulder, it happens all the time. The well accomplished Athletes/Trainers here at American Gym easily separate their personal endeavors from coaching those willing to learn and improve daily making it a very comfortable experience for everyone. It honestly feels like a second home! Along with the exceptional Personal trainers here youll find; the membership fees more than reasonable, professional gym management (Brian), and outstanding front desk customer service. Keep up the great work! Jason Hernandez

Ive been working out here for about a year now and I have to say the environment is great. The gym itself is clean and the equipment is well maintained. The staff is great and theyre all willing to offer advice and help if you need it. Ive received a lot of help from Brian (the owner) and Steve. I am not sure what Michael is talking about, but Ive personally never paid for a private lesson since Ive been here but I still managed progress a lot from a year ago. The sparring classes are meant for advanced students, and Steve will observe and offer advice to newer students but he doesnt babysit them. All in all this is a great gym with great staff AND clients.

I specifically chose this place over the usual 24hr/LA fitness options because of the value. There are no juice heads or girls with make up taking selfies anywhere. All staff members and people are super friendly and the people that come in do so to get work done. There are classes every day and you also have options to pick up personal lessons and group classes from each individual trainer. I will gladly pay my monthly gym membership knowing I dont have to wait in line for the weights, there are no sales people walking around trying to sell me anything, and to know I can attend as many free classes as I want versus whatever those other gyms charge.

I have been working out at American Gym for about a year now and all of the classes are awesome! I especially love Scotts class, he is very knowledgeable, professional, determined and extremely helpful. They offer over 130 classes a month that you can choose from ranging from boxing to muay thai. The gym is always very clean and the employees/trainers are always willing to go out of their way to inform you of ways that are going to help you hit your fitness goals. What a great and professional gym, I highley reccommend American Gym and all of its trainers to anyone serious about hitting their fitness goals.

classes are good, staff are nice, theres not much of a wait for weights ever. The only complaint i have is one of the boxing trainers "Steve Franklin" is a crazy bipolar old man. When i came back from surgery sparring sessions shrunk from 10-14 people to about 2-4 and steve is the reason why. He runs the sessions but doesnt help anyone whos not paying him for private lessons and instead of encouraging boxers to improve and aspire to being better, he goes off on them with nasty comments. If the gym owner got rid of this man the gym would be close to perfect

This is a great gym!!!! Everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable, I do not personally know Steve but he has always been very helpful and seems to be a great boxer. Classes are all great and you can really get in shape if you go there everyday. I lost almost 20 pounds in about 2 months just going to the classes and hitting the weights. Brain the owner is extremely helpful, the other trainers are also helpful and will take the time to answer any questions and show you how to properly do what ever exercise you ask about.

I have tried all the other boxing gym around (La Boxing & No Limit) and this was is by far a superior gym. It is not a cattle herd like No Limit and it isnt as corporate/girly as LA Boxing. Classes are good sizes, and you actually get instruction from the instructors on correct form. Also, enough cardio and weights were you dont have to wait for a machine like 24hr. Been there over 3 years and dont plan on quitting any time soon. Go check it out!!

Juan is the sickest boxing coach Ive ever had, this place is awesome and has everything you need as far as weights, bags, and trainers, Nick Moghaddam is a sick bjj blackbelt trainer here too. And Jason Drexel is a straight lengend, he has spent more time in the ring than anyone in the sport of MMA.

Great gym, doesnt have the impersonal corporate feel of the 24 fitness or LA Boxing. It is a lot more like a gym you would go to with friends. The trainers are very knowledgable and professional as well. Very reasonably priced.

American Gym is a great facility with awesome instructors. Franky Chavez, who runs American Gyms Muay Thai Classes, is a top Muay Thai fighter and coach. Definitely the top MMA and Muay Thai Gym in the Costa Mesa area!

Id been a member for 2 1/2 years and had a good experience with trainers. Then I had to deal with the management. They were evasive, unresponsive and had little care for my membership. They just want your money.

Love this gym - the people, the environment, and the staff is really friendly and professional. Many classes are offered, too! Brian and Andre are the best - friendly, helpful, and courteous!
