Midas gets 1 star because: 1. It took 2.5 hours for an oil change because they forgot that I had an appointment and 2. They tried to convince me that I needed a new engine. For details, please read on. I made an appointment the morning of, spoke to a man who scheduled my appointment at 2pm. I went right at 2pm, there was a long line so it took about 10 minutes to get to the counter. When it was my turn, I told the lady, "I have an appointment at 2". She asked for my name, and the mileage on my car. I wasnt sure, so she borrowed my keys to take a look at the mileage. She came back saying I needed a new battery because it was "hard to start". It was very weird she told me that because it started fine before I got there, and also you dont need to start the car for the mileage to show up. I told her just the oil change was fine, and she told me to sit down. Great. My appointment was confirmed and I would be out in no time! Or so I thought... An hour had gone by, and I still did not have my car back. They were busy so I decided to cut them some slack and wait a little longer. Another hour had gone by, so I finally went up to the counter to ask them whats taking them so long. "You didnt have an appointment", the lady didnt hesitate to answer back. I assured her I did have an appointment (I told her in the beginning). All I got back was, "sorry sir, there was a little bit of a mix up". I get it. People make mistakes. But its a mistake that couldve easily been avoided by double checking. The best part comes when they ring me up. They told me that I came in with very low oil, and there were "metal shavings" in the oil. They told me that my engine had been "irreversibly damaged", and that my engine could "seize at any moment". They told me they would call me when they found a replacement engine. The thing is, I knew that my car was low on oil because it has a little leak, and at 180k miles, it burns a lot of oil. Its been about 10 days since I drove the car, so it would seem about right that the car was low in oil. But whenever my "low oil light" comes on, I always fill it up with engine oil (which I keep in my car), and I never drive my car far distances with the low oil lamp on, so I was very surprised to hear that. I tried to explain that to them, but before I could finish the lady said, "Only cars after 2010 (or 2009, or a different year, I forgot. The point is shes saying my car is too old to have one) have low oil lamps". After hearing her blatantly lie right in front of me, I decided immediately to get a second opinion. Lucky for me, I had plans with my mechanic friend later that evening. I asked him about it, and it turns out that just because there are metal shavings in the oil, doesnt mean you should go replace your engine. Its not good that theres low engine oil and excessive metal shavings, but for them to say that my engine is busted and I needed to replace it is preposterous. They didnt inspect my engine. They didnt do an oil analysis. They didnt do anything to see if my engine is busted. All they saw was that I had low oil and metal shavings in it. I am not denying what they told me. I knew that at the time of the oil change, there was very little oil. There was probably metal shavings in the oil. What ticks me off is that they took this opportunity to try to get me to shell out $3000 for a new engine (They told me it would cost 3k or more). If the engine is busted in my car that has 180k+ miles on it, any honest mechanic would tell you that you should use it towards a down payment on a new car. But if I bought a new car, how is Midas going to get any money from me? Thats just it. They dont care about their customers; all they care about is the money. I am not saying that Midas lied to me (except for the low oil light part). Using your car with low oil will cause "irreversible damage" to your car. And they just merely "suggested" that I get a new engine. However, they definitely dont tell the truth, and if they see an opportunity to take your money, they will. .

Few weeks ago Midas replaced 2 rear tires on my car and did courtesy check (fluids, brakes, etc.) and reported everything was fine. After that car started to pull right direction pretty badly. So I went to them again. Technician confirmed that alignment is bad but rejected to admit that they could mess it up (said "Its absolutely impossible.") then he tried to convince me that I might had some accident (seriously???) which could mess up the alignment. Needless to say that I didnt and the car of course doesnt have any signs of accident and looks like new. Then he made an assumption that alignment was like that before (even though front tires, which are old have very little sign of alignment problem, which means alignment was messed up very recently) and suggested to talk to the people who did my alignment last time. Which was Toyota dealership 9 month ago and alignment was perfect since then until Midas did their work on the car. So basically he said: "Its anybody elses fault but not ours" (even though problem appeared after I visited their shop) and offered to do an alignment for their regular price. Im not going back to this place again! UPD: In response to the owner. There are few facts to take into account: 1. 1st time Technician not only changed tires but also disassembled brakes (removed rotors and drums) in order to check them. 2. In my 2nd visit technician (different one) told me (quote): "Alignment is bad. Changing the tires will not help, b/c alignment is wrong!". Thats not my words, thats his words. 3. I know for sure that car didnt pull any direction 1 month ago (before I visited Midas for the 1st time) 4. I also know for sure that I didnt have any accidents, didnt hit bumps, didnt roll through large potholes in a last month. I.e. didnt have any physical impact on the car that could mess up alignment. 5. And I also know for sure that car started to pull right AFTER visiting Midas. Therefore I have a strong reason to believe that something happened during my first visit to Midas which caused the car to start pulling right.

i didnt get what i was expecting, i was told mechanic will check the cabin filter, air filter. The mechanic couldnt figure out where the cabin filter is, after fiddling with the dashboard he said, its 2,3 hour job to find and check, when i told him it was part of the service, the Asian guy was able to open it in 5 minutes. He showed me the filter and i requested him if he could blow it so that all the dust goes off, but he refused citing frivolous reasons as i had pressed him to check the cabin filter. Then i asked, did he check the engine air filter if its ok? He said yes its absolutely fine, i went ahead and checked the cover of the air filter it was not even opened as all the dust was resting on the cover as is. Then again i requested him to open it, now he opens the filter and i again asked him to blow the air filter so that dust goes off. But he refused again citing same reason, i asked him give me the filter i will blow the filter if not him but he wont let me do it. Whats the big deal, i could have cleaned it then and there myself had he given me the filter, but he did not coz he wanted to finish it in a hush. I was very dissapointed with this asian guys attitude. The 17 or 7 point check list was also farce, they didnt check anything at all, i asked them to check the brakes, then the mechanic looks at the brakes with a torch after tyres are fixed --> very Dissapointed I was told they will top up the coolant but that was also not done. I requested for Vacuum and the front desk guy put a note on it, that was also not done, i had to request again and he just vacuumed front two mats. I hope you guys have a fix for this Thanks.
