We feel extremely fortunate to have found Buzzy Bee Preschool and Sonia Carr. As a mom of 3 children we wish we would have known about Buzzy Bee Preschool when our other two children were small. Sonia offers so much more than the big centers and has far fewer kids. Our daughter has been attending Buzzy Bee Preschool for 1 year and is starting her 2nd year of preschool here. She has grown and learned so much academically through Sonia’s excellent and structured preschool program! She has learned letters, numbers, counting and writing among many other things. Sonia incorporates crafts and activates into the themed lesson plans. The preschool is in a nice clean home with a dedicated and spacious finished basement for the preschool area. The play area is very well lit and has many play centers for the children to explore and learn. Sonia has always prepared and provided healthy meals and snacks every day. She has even encouraged our daughter to eat more things that are healthy for her and we have noticed the difference. Nap time or quiet time is from 2 to 4 pm but my daughter sometimes only sleeps about an hour and a half or so and Sonia provides her with quiet time activities as not to wake the children who do need longer naps. Sonia is from Brazil and speaks fluent English but the perk is she also knows Portuguese and Spanish and has even taught my daughter some basic Spanish. Win win! Our daughter has always been safe and well cared for at Buzzy Bee Preschool and she loves to go. The prices are very reasonable if you compare them to other area full day preschool programs. However with Buzzy Bee Preschool you do get amazing value for what you pay (as a mom who has paid big bucks at big box preschools for her older children I realized this value immediately). Buzzy Bee Preschool does have requirements to hold your spot and for notice if you are leaving but after visiting several home day cares/preschools I found that the contract and agreement was fairly standard and reasonable as it would be in any respectful business agreement. If you are looking for an excellent preschool program for you 2 ½ to pre K child I give my highest recommendation to Buzzy Bee Preschool and Sonia Carr. Sincerely, Val McKnight

My son has attended Buzzy Bee Preschool for over 2 years, and we love this school. Before we found Miss Sonia, our son attended one of the larger corporate preschools in town. We had a hard time with the frequent shifting of teachers and classrooms (“graduating”), not to mention the crowded classrooms and occasional teacher no-shows. Buzzy Bee has been a perfect combination of a stable environment with a warm and caring teacher and an enriching curriculum. Miss Sonia structures each day with crafts, songs, story time, study time (letters, numbers, coloring, etc), and outdoor play. She tailors the lessons to the ability of each child, so the older ones continue to be challenged (printouts with higher numbers, more advanced vocab etc). We love that the kids all study together, so the younger ones can learn from the older ones, and the older ones can develop confidence helping their younger classmates. Children are assigned a job for the week (line leader, lunch helper, etc) to instill a sense of responsibility. Every week there is a show-and-tell, and the kids get a fun “treasure box” toy at the end of each week. Lots to look forward to :-) And Miss Sonia prepares a fresh lunch each day with a morning and afternoon snack (built into the tuition I might add). The classroom itself is a finished basement with an open layout that she has completely converted into her school. Miss Sonia keeps it very clean and our son has loved the classroom from day one. For playtime the kids go outside to her large backyard with a jungle gym for some exercise (our son learned to swing when he was just three!). It’s comforting to know that our son will be more than ready for Kindergarten next year (geez time flies!). He can write all his letters and numbers and he’s even starting to sight-read new books from the library. He has had a terrific time here and made some great friends. We are so happy we found this school and are forever grateful to Miss Sonia for all she has done for our child!

This review is based on our boy attending Buzzy Bee Preschool for several months before we finally took him out last week. Facilities (D): The preschool is basically run out of the finished basement of a suburban house. Very little light and quite cramped. The "kitchen" is a little area with a microwave/toaster oven. Backyard converted into mini playground. Safety (C): All kids (up to 8+ kids) overseen by one person during the entire day. Our boy had bruises from several accidents in the playground. Academics (D): Only little structured learning of even basics like alphabet or numbers. I was surprised how much further along kids from other preschools were compared to the kids at Buzzy Bee. Nap time is very long up to 4PM (to fit whose schedule I wonder) which makes getting your child to sleep at night a very difficult task. Teacher (D): The teacher/owner is from a Brazilian background with a fairly noticeable accent which really didnt help our boy develop his speaking skills. If your kid is from a multi-cultural home (like our kid) she is the wrong type of teacher. Tuition/Value (F): As we discovered belatedly, you can send your child to a "real" school with an actual academic program, good facilities and better qualified teacher at the same or maybe slightly higher tuition. Management (F): Although we gave more than three week notice, they still confiscated almost all of our two week deposit. I suggest that you read the contract EXTREMELY carefully before you sign anything with them. Conclusion: There are plenty of MUCH better schools with great teachers in the area. We just enrolled our kid at the Lone Tree Montessori and love it ...

Buzzy Bee preschool is a great preschool. I started there when I was 2 1/2 years old and now Im in the 7th grade and an A student. Buzzy Bee preschool taught me a lot when I was there, Ms. Sonia taught me Spanish, numbers, how to write my name, and the alphabet. When I was four my parents took me to kindergarten for a test to see if I can attend school and I passed thanks to Buzzy Bee preschool and Ms. Sonia. At Buzzy Bee there are a lot of toys donated by past students and outside there is a fun play ground for the kids to play on. Now when I do not have school I sometimes go to Ms. Sonias to help her with the kids and all of them are so smart. There is a 3 year old who knows how to write her name all by herself. All the kids have very good manners like please and thank you and table manners. Overall Buzzy Bee preschool is a great school for little kids. From: Maya

My children have had an overwhelmingly positive experience at Buzzy Bee Preschool. My oldest daughter, now in 3rd grade, learned so much in her time with Sonia! It fostered a love of reading that continues to this day. She was absolutely prepared to enter Kindergarten when she left Buzzy Bee, thanks to the structured learning, fun crafts, positive reinforcement, and fantastic social interaction that she got with the other children there. My son is currently a student at Buzzy Bee as well. We didnt even consider another school because there was no need. He is improving his reading and writing skills so much every day! I have absolutely no doubt that he will have no problems moving into Kindergarten next year thanks to the wonderful environment he enjoys at Buzzy Bee! I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
