I have had my 2000 Honda CR-V serviced at East Rock Auto over the past few years. The service is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. I was most impressed with my last experience at East Rock Auto. My car needed a new catalytic converter and exhaust pipes. I first took it to the Honda dealer because I was told that some of the exhaust parts were under lifetime warranty if they were replaced/service at a Honda dealer. They quoted me a repair price of $2,600 for the exhaust system, catalytic converter, and oxygen sensor that they said needed to be replaced. I did not want to put that kind of money into a 10-year-old car with over 130,000 miles on it. So, I took it to East Rock Auto. I was able to drop my car off before they opened in the morning. By mid-morning, I received a call with what needed to be repaired and an estimated price of around $950. They also told me they would do their best to try and save the oxygen sensor if they could because that part alone is $300. They said they could have it done by the end of the day. By the afternoon, they called to tell me that they were able to save the oxygen sensor and the entire cost with an oil change and taxes was $1,000. I was not able to get back there before they closed to pick up the car, but I was able to pay with my credit card via fax and was able to pick up my car after hours. I am not only grateful to East Rock Auto for saving me over $1500 in parts and labor, but also because they are friendly, very efficient, they communicated what was happening and when I could expect things to be done, and I also feel they are very honest about what really needs to be done/replaced and what does not. I will take my car here for all furture repairs and routine maintenance.

Its been a year and a half since I first reviewed East Rock Auto on Yelp, giving them five stars. Since then Ive had multiple oil changes and a number of other repairs given the cars age, and also gotten married and had them do work on my wifes car too - and my review remains five stars. Just today, I took my minivan in for what would have been a $300 repair. Paul, the owner and head mechanic, said it was optional and recommended I not do it since the car is so old! Good advice, but when does a mechanic ever suggest you NOT give them money? In my first review, I wrote that I hadnt met the mechanic, just the customer service person (Lianne is always professional and friendly), but since then Ive met Paul several times, taking advantage of his free shuttle service in the morning and evenings. I enjoy talking to him on a personal level, and on a professional level, he always levels with me. I definitely recommend his services and am happy I found him.

+++ My radiator hose separated and I needed to choose a garage to be towed to by AAA. Out of the blue I opted for East Rock Auto over Firestone. It was an excellent choice, from the moment Paul answered the phone I felt reassured. Paul replaced my hose assembly, purged the system test drove the car and determined something was not right. He researched the problem on line, diagnosed it, and corrected it. I had to insist he charge me for the extra time and antifreeze he put into my car. I had a rare feeling of confidence after a stranger worked on my car as I got back on Rt.95 for my 45 minute drive home. Paul owns and runs a true "service station" a rarity in our neighborhoods today. I am grateful and blessed that I was brought to his door. I suggest you not hesitate to try him.

The staff is friendly and nice, and as to the two repairs Ive gotten there - quality work. However, I am not so happy about the up-front, pre-repair service...first they charge something on the order of $90 to even look at the (broken) car, even though I could already tell them within two components what was wrong. I thought that maybe they would refund that when I actually let them fix the parts, but it is just a separate charge entirely. Then they call you to run through a list of everything that could possibly be wrong (including in my case "bad axles" that I know isnt the case) in what seems like a weak attempt to get more out of you than what you want/need. After that, however, the service is great and the repairs good.

I have had my car there a few times and have had them inspect a couple of cars before I bought (or not bought) them. Each time they did a complete inspection appropriate to the presenting issue, gave me pretty extensive feedback that we discussed (what needed to be done now, might I do it myself, special tools, training to do a job etc) and then settled on a course of action. They have always done the job they were hired to do well, completely and offered good advice about what i should be looking at next. I do a lot of my own work and know a lot more than average about cars and they are always good to work with. I have never been surprised by some huge unexpected gotcha.

Yeah, theyre very nice and probably good mechanics too but I didnt wait to find out after they tried to charge me $70 to replace my spark plugs. They also told me I needed to replace an axle that was perfectly fine (confirmed by an honest mechanic) and on which Im still driving three years later. If you dont know anything about cars and have lots of money to spend, these are your people. If you are aware that a new set of spark plugs cost <$20 and takes an amateur 5 minutes to replace, or if you just dont want to get ripped off by some jerks that probably just think youre a rich Yalie, go somewhere else.

Consistently excellent service. Ive been a customer for more than 20 years. Paul Tremblay is one of the most trustworthy, capable, reliable human beings I know. He goes out of his way to deliver cost-effective repairs, and he backs them up 100% if anything goes wrong. I count on him to give honest and helpful advice about what I need to fix for safety, and whats optional. Brought my ancient Honda Odyssey in last month to have the timing belt and water pump replaced; he worked with my schedule, got the job done beautifully, and billed me LESS than the original estimate.

East Rock Auto is awesome. Ive had to get quite a bit of work done on my car over the last two years and they have always been extremely upfront about everything that needs to be done, and the urgency of each issue. You never have to worry about being pressured into getting any repairs you dont need. I can usually get my car in the next day, and theyll have all the work done within a day or two at the most. A great business that I would recommend to anyone.

I now own my third vehicle ever. I took my second car and now my van to East Rock Auto. I have been a customer since 2002. I have only received courteous, timely, fair service from Paul and his employees. I recommend East Rock Auto to everyone. They have gone out of their way for me again and again, and they help me to prioritize the repairs my older vehicle requires. Pauls experience and reliable service has been a great part about living in New Haven.
