Today I was the recipient of an early April Fools Day present courtesy Matthew Michaels Salon @ The Loop. I just didnt know I was the guest of honor. Months ago I thought I had hit pay-dirt in finding a salon that would would provide the service I asked for, which is all that I ask when I get a haircut. How ironic it is that during my last appointment, 3 weeks ago, I signed up and paid for their frequent customer program, considering Ill never again frequent that establishment. Today I arrived on-time for my scheduled appointment with my fiancee, who had an appointment with her stylist conveniently scheduled for the same time. We were greeted by the receptionist and after a short wait my fiancee was greeted by her stylist. I was informed there would be a short wait for my stylist, Gilbert, but that it "wouldnt be long." 10 minutes later the receptionist was kind enough to ask if I wanted something to drink while I waited, a wait which she then said would be "less than 5 or 10 minutes more." When I had been waiting for 30 minutes I had decided I would only wait for my fiancees cut and style to be completed and I would leave. At 5:00PM we finally left the salon, fully an hour past the time of my scheduled appointment. While the receptionist was kind enough to ask me if there was anything she could do the only reason I was at the salon, and had made a scheduled appointment 3 weeks in advance was for a haircut and highlights, not a social visit. At NO TIME, while I was waiting was my stylist courteous or professional enough to walk over and either apologize OR offer an explanation for the wait. 10-15 minutes I can understand, but my fiancees services took an hour and I was still waiting. I dont care that Matthew Michaels is one of Americas Top 200 salons...according to whom? What I care about is receiving the service for which I have made an appointment for. How ironic that they call to remind you of an appointment, and charge a fee if you are a no-show, yet when youre waiting AN HOUR past the time of your scheduled appointment your stylist does not have the decency to face-up to the error. Matthew Michaels lost two well-tipping customers today, and following a similar posting on Facebook, Twitter, and word of mouth, I only hope they lose more. What I experienced today was simply inexcusable.

I called to see if I can walk in they set up the appointment for later that day. When I arrived I filled out the paper they gave and my boyfriend complimented the receptionist and she gave him a really rude snarky look and continued doing what she was doing. The lady I got my hair was super friendly. I told her about my past mishaps getting my hair cut and every time it turns out horrible. She asked me what brought me there and I said the good reviews. The experience itself was good and she was kind to me buuuuut she did not give me what I asked for. I asked for long layers with a v cut and for my bangs to be trimmed. Now initially I did not say anything because I didnt see how my hair looked like straight before she curled the ends. Because they were curled it looked like what I wanted. Then when I got home and I straightened it to see what it actually looked like and it wasnt great. My hair looked very choppy and uneven. I paid 65 and 15 tip for my hair to come out disastrous. I feel so bad because she was a wonderful girl but her work to not match her confidence. I called to get it fix and they wont have anyone available till Friday I called them on Wednesday . They didnt ask me if I was able to have it redone that Friday or even ask when is the soonest I can come in. honestly my other mishaps at other saloons actually came out better than this high end salon. Im very disappointed that I look like a hot mess. I have 2 layers she didnt part my bangs right some pieces are longer than the others. The last photo is how I wanted it to look like. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE CURLY thick HAIR they dont know how to style it or cut it. I ended up having someone make my hair even and fix it as much as she could and she did an awesome job. I will not be going back.i think the lady was in a rush because as soon as we left she left too. My hair was all the way down to my butt. I know I had to cut a lot and I told her that was fine as long as it was in a v cut which I did not get. EDIT I would also like to add that no one from aveda has contacted me to get my hair fixed after I called them and them promising someone would contact me.Never again.

I went in with high expectations, as I was referred to this salon. I arrived around 1:00 pm on a Friday, had a brief consultation with Pedro and was informed that what I wanted was entirely possible. The man didnt listen to a word that I said. I told him specifically that I could not have multi-toned hair, and that I wanted the color of some celebrity (I even brought in a picture). I stopped him multiple times after over hearing what he was doing and I had little confidence. By around 3:30, I was passed off to some of the "assistants" and was informed I would be in good hands. Once rinsed out, my hair was orange at the roots, and two-toned. I asked for a specific tone of blonde, and I got platinum bangs and brown hair with some minor highlights. He fixed the orange with the brown. By the time I was done and out of there, around 8:30-9:00 (longer than I spend at work most days), my hair was still the same, platinum bangs, etc. Only now, instead of the orange, I had spots and stripes. I contacted the manager of another location, informed her of the situation and she offered someone else to fix it from her salon. All he did was tone down the blonde in my hair to make the two-toning less noticeable. I forgot to mention the hair cut I received from Pedro. He did it in tops, five minutes and Ive never seen such a poor job. I dealt with three stylists while here the first time, then one other the next time. Maybe if they would pay more attention to their clients, the place would be able to do a decent job. The miscommunication issues here make me hope no one ever goes to this salon. Stay away from here! Theyll screw up your hair and charge you full price then try to cheat you out of your refund.

Let me just say that I have been to numerous salons/spa and am very accustomed for paying for services, but the customer services would be very rude. A year ago, I called Matthew Michaels salon out of desperation for both my sister and I. Teresa was wonderful and actually felt for my sister and I that she said she would work something out for me and call me back. Well she called me back was able to get us in last minute to sit with the wonderful Michael himself. He was very patient, attentive and welcoming that I was completely and utterly hooked. I come quite a bit, having my pedicures done by Yaritza, my facials & eyebrows with Olga, and sometimes have had the pleasure to have Pedro dry & style my hair. No matter who I have sat with at the salon, they are all wonderful. Very welcoming and when I walk they know my name. That means a lot! Just to finalize a last note, I am sending over some important clients to them and as stressful as the group planning had been for me, Jaime and Teresa were great and supportive. They took care of everything for me. My salon for life, no matter were my sister and I are. Great, great services and people.
