Do yourself a favor and dont listen to all of the negative reviews posted online. Go to Shapes yourself and meet with them and tour the gym! After one of my friends lost a ton of weight, the rest of my friends jumped onboard and joined shapes. They encouraged me to join with me but I was hesitant because of the reviews. I went down there myself to do some investigating. So let me break it down for you: Customer Service: I have spoken to four different girls that work there and EVERYONE is absolutely fantastic. They are upbeat, friendly and are ALWAYS happy to help. And unlike in most big name gyms like LA fitness- they arent pushy! I went in knowing what I wanted out of a gym and they were happy to deliver just that. Cleanliness: Curious as I am- I asked them what their cleaning routine was. they mention that in addition to cleaning bathrooms and equipment periodically throughout the day and deep cleaning at night, they also have a cleaning crew that comes in at the end of every week to go the extra mile. Everytime I am there Ive noticed that the bathrooms, the showers, and the equipment are always spotless! Equipment / Amenities: Shapes offers a wide array of equipment including cardio based equipment like treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and rowing machines but it doesnt stop there. They have a free weights section with benches etc and of course tons of strength machines. Shapes provides fitness classes as well that are an absolute blast! From Zumba to Cycling and even a cycling class theres something to keep you busy EVERY day of the week! Shapes also provides a locker room for storing your personal items and right next to the pool there is toasty sauna to relax in after a hard workout! Shapes also offers kids club for your little ones to stay in while you pump some iron. I havent taken advantage of this since I havent got any children but I will definitely ask around to get some feedback on it! From what Ive noticed kids come in happy and leave happy (: Prices: Id say youre getting bang for your buck here at Shapes. I pay $35 dollars monthly for one year and receive access to all amenities. They also have trainers help you get to your goal for a minimal fee that you can ask about. While I havent taken advantage of this, one of my friends has and boy has it made a difference! You also get a free consultation with a trainer when you sign up and they take all your measurements including Body Fat % so you can start making a plan to get to your goal. Clientele: The people that come through shapes are probably some of the most friendly people I have ever met! I have yet to encounter anyone at this gym whom it wasnt a pleasure meeting. Everyone here is here for one thing- to improve. In this gym there is no judgement. Whether your big, small, young or old the trainers give you the encouragement you need and the other members accept you as you are. There isnt a competitive feeling like there is in most other gyms. At shapes, you are here for you. Overall: Shapes is a small gym compared to places like LA Fitness, but it definitely makes all the difference. Its more on a personal scale and has a homey feel to it. The staff is a blast to speak with and are friendly and incredibly helpful. The place is kept incredibly clean and is never too crowded. I give this gym 5 stars. I have had memberships with 3 other gyms and never have I felt so at home. This is a gym that makes you feel comfortable from beginning to end. Go check it out for yourself!

DON’T SIGN UP WITH THIS GYM!! There are several better gyms in the area. I was a member of this Shapes since it opened. I was lied to by the sales woman and told that all the equipment would be brand new. While waiting for this location to open, I went to the Carrollwood location. I was told there that they would get new equipment first because they’ve been open longer. Sure enough, it was not new equipment. Probably Carrollwood’s or Temple Terrace’s old equipment. The majority of the staff is rude with an attitude. They even stink at pretending to be customer friendly. Most of the time they didn’t say “bye” or “have a great day” when I left. When they did, I was already out the door and they would shout it to me as if obligated to do so by Shapes. Here’s the WORST part… I was LIED TO AGAIN by the same sales woman and told that if my aunt and I pay for a year membership up front, that they would make it 18 months for the price of a 12 month membership. Almost a year passes and I get a call saying that my membership was about to expire. I told them what I was promised and they said and I quote, “Yeah, there were some shady staff members that were making empty promises to get members to pay up front for memberships. This isn’t what Shapes is about and those staff members were terminated. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about it.” Even though I had 2 months of membership left, I joined a better gym that I love. My new gym has brand new, state-of-the-art equipment. They are also all about health and wellness, not just about getting nice calves. Plus the staff is really friendly and the energy in the gym is positive, unlike the negative vibe at this Shapes. I called Shapes to tell them I wanted to cancel my membership and why. The girl’s response was, “Oh my goodness, I can’t believe that happened to you. Of course we can honor the 6 months for you! Not a problem.” So you tell me there’s nothing you can do and then when I say I want to cancel you say it’s no problem??? It didnt make a difference, I was done with this place. Im SO happy I switched! A gym should be more than a cheap place to lift weights and do cardio.

I first think its hilarious to see trainers that work at Shapes giving reviews. Ive been a member for over a year. The gym is small and is only for women. I was attracted by this and the wide range of classes offered. Since I became a member Ive noticed that this location has a hard time keeping the bathroom stocked with toilet paper/paper towels/soap. There were even a few months where the water fountains were out of order. But of course you could buy a bottle of water. The last straw for me and the reason for my one star review is their new policy regarding small group training. I have a limited budget and their cost for personal training is expensive. The small group training was a nice compromise, the price was way more affordable ($60 for 5 sessions, $99 for 10) and it was a great way to work with a trainer, maybe not one on one but more intimate than a regular class. Shapes has decided to more than double the cost of small groups putting this completely out of my budget. Not only did they do this effective immediately with no warning they chose to do it right before the holidays. Because people often have lots of extra money this time of year. Update: The management at Shapes has offered us a compromise for this session because of the miscommunication between them and us (the clients). I think its a fair compromise between the two prices and allows for us to figure out what to do when the new pricing goes into effect. While I still have concerns about next year it is nice to feel heard and like they are willing to work with us during what (to us) was an abrupt transition. Ive raised my rating accordingly.
