I got a free pass to try out the L.A. Fitness in Alpharetta. I had never been to an L.A Fitness and wanted to see if it would work for me. I will not be signing a contract with them. Here was my workout plan. squats shoulder presses deadlifts maybe some dumbbell bench presses pullups There was one squat rack that I could even do squats on. Luckily, most people dont do squats, so it was unoccupied. The rack guards didnt look like theyd support the weight if I failed a squat set, and the bar wasnt quite wide enough so that I kept having trouble re-racking the weight. It was a Monday evening, and the place was packed, but thats when I want to work out, so I figured that was the best time to test it. Other people were always getting in the way when I tried to change weights. Worse, some of the time when I went to do a set, someone had arrived to occupy the area I was going to squat in. The weights themselves were all over the place. The top bar over the top of the squat rack was low enough that it prevented me from doing shoulder presses. There were two other racks that I could have done shoulder presses on (but not squats), but they were occupied. I ended up doing dumbbell presses. The dumbbells were all over the place, almost never in the right spot, and I had trouble just finding some open ground to do them. There were I think only 2 water fountains, and I had to weave my way in and out of equipment and people to get to them. The place has a lot of gear, but at a point, its becomes a problem. For deadlifts, again, I had limited options. Loading and unloading weight was again a problem with people and equipment in the way (and I was in the corner!). Humorously, at one point to remove the squat guards, I had to pull them out and almost became too personal with another patron. I wanted to do dumbbell bench presses, but it was too much trouble to find an empty bench. I moved on to pullups. For these, there were at least enough machines that I didnt have any logistical issues. Then I wanted to work my lower back on a reverse situp machine. Then it occurred to me: I hadnt seen any spray bottles and towels. I asked one of the attendants, and he pointed me to the one spray bottle next to the paper towel dispenser. Id have missed it. Since apparently no one who works there goes around to put the weights in order at the end of a night, Im guessing they dont do much of a job of cleaning surfaces. Id expect to be sick a lot going to that gym. I realize my workout regimen isnt typical. Maybe if your goal is cardio, some classes, machine weights, and talking with other patrons, everything would be great (except for the spray bottles and towels). For me, it was inefficient at best, and at worst, dangerous. The good: Lots of cardio machines, racquetball courts, swim pool seemed ok, classes, and the showers had nice water pressure The could be better: No towel dispenser No bathing suit dryer Not enough drinking fountains The awful: No spray bottles with towels Way too many machines (12 bench press stations) except if you want some barbell training, in which case youre mostly out of luck Way too many people in the cramped free weight area, to the point of being dangerous

I had received a complementary 30 day workout pass, and when I went to LA Fitness to set up my trial no one was working at the member services desk to help. I waited for 15-20 minutes, with my four year old, and still no one acknowledged my existence! I have worked in the gym industry before for many years, and I know there should always be someone at the front desk to assist customers. So after getting tired of waiting, I left, then decided to call the gym and ask them about my 30 day workout pass. I was hung up on FOUR times. When I was finally able to speak to someone, he was very rude. He told me that my workout pass was probably not even real, and he told me that I was lying to him about no one being at the member services desk. Obviously I would know if I was helped out or not? So in conclusion to all of this disappointment, I will not be joining LA Fitness, and I will stay at the gym I am currently working out at. They need to work on encouraging customers to sign up with them, not scaring them away.

My problem with this gym is their pitiful and dangerous Kids Club. For the last 3 times Ive dropped off my child their have been several young (2-4 yrs old) children trying to open the door to leave, the single attendant has been sitting under or at the tv watching the movie playing which does not give her a line of sight to the exit/door where the kids were pulling on the door handle. She was NOT friendly, professional or even attentive. The kids are always crying or sitting on the floor doing nothing. They have maybe a dozen toys in the entire space. And the child to attendant ration is absurd! Last time I was there there were 11 kids to one practically asleep attendant. 2 of the kids were infants under 8 months, maybe 5 of them were under 3 and the rest around 6-7. I cant possibly work out knowing you dont even know my child is there let alone that he may be trying to escape. This place is a tragedy waiting to happen!!!!!

Love-Love-Love this particular L.A. Fitness Center/Gym. The equipment is always clean and in working order, the personal training area is extremely organized, no loose hand weights or medicine balls out of place to fall or trip over. There is always someone available to answer any question I may have about training or fitness. I go here frequently, enjoy the camaraderie of the front desk and staff that Ive gotten to know, as well as members who go to the gym on the days that I do. The gym offers something for everyone: a full, complete line of all types of weights, weight bearing equipment, basketball court, juice bar, racquetball courts, steam room, VERY clean bathrooms and locker area, upstairs: treadmills, bicycles, stair masters and more. You will not be disappointed with your work out experience in this wonderful facility!!

Would not recommend this location. The gym is always dirty and the gym constantly reeks. Equipment is worn and old. Many of the ellipticals, as seen in the picture, has holes in foot pedestals. Equipment is often "out of service". As busy as the gym is too, its very disappointing that the staff does not take more pride in their gym. The only reason why I continue to use this location is due to it being super close to my house. Ive seen other LA fitness gyms local to the area, all clean and updated. Wish the windward location would be renovated. Especially as much money is in this area and being located in a more "upscale part of town" this gym is by far low grade. Im being generous by giving 2 stars... Edited to prove my point, walking out the door, two employees walk by the trash and dont bother to pick it up... wow.. 1 star

So feel free to join when ever you want at your connivence..... But if you need to cancel your membership for any reason you can only do it between the hours of 9-5 M-F with a manager?! and No over the phone and no you cant send a spouse. What if you work 9-5 should I take off just to cancel my membership? talk about inconvenience. And when noted of the inconvenience they reply yes most people do work during that time we get that a lot, cant you come on your lunch break? one that is not the purpose of my lunch break and two no because I work 45 minutes from home where the gym is located. So thanks a lot LA fitness. Also the gym is packed with people, maybe expected from big gyms but coming from a smaller more personal gym I found this overwhelming.
