I went to Freds for service and can tell you this was by far the worst experience I have ever had from a so called "professional" mechanic. My car needed new brakes and Fred put in his cheap synthetic knock offs that were the wrong kind. As soon as I drove away from his shop they started squeaking. I took them back only to hear that it must be something else. $1500+ later the brakes were still squeaking. He called me up and wanted me to come in again so he could soak me out of more money---still insisting that they were not his cheap brakes. I got smart and went to a Ford dealer and guess what---it WAS the brakes and they put in the ones that should have gone in the first time. When I called Fred, the "professional" mechanic, all he said was, duh, well Im glad you finally found out what the problem was. Well duh Fred, since you werent honest enough to admit you were wrong I spent money that was completely unnecessary. What a poor excuse for a "professional" mechanic. No apology, no offer to make it right, just a goof ball reaction to something he was not man enough to admit. Avoid this rip off like the plague and find a real professional mechanic. Theres plenty of them around, but not at Freds!

I went to Freds for many years. Great at first but over time service suffered dramatic declines. They told me I needed over $1300 of front end suspension work (it was an old car). After the work, my car shimmied, shook and made all kinds of BAD noises. I must have taken it back to them at least 5 or 6 times. To their credit they never charged me more. However they never did get the car right again. Finally a CV joint snapped (I believe that was because of all the other problems they had induced since they had inspected the CV joints and said they were good). With towing and repair costs at Freds topping another $500 dollars I was now out nearly two grand on a car that still shimmied, shook and popped and now my trans-axle leaked like a seive. Evidently it was damaged when the CV joint snapped. Once again to their credit they tried several times to fix it but finally said they could not. I started with a car that worked fine; spent close to $2000 and untold hours of time and frustration and wound up having to basically give away my car for $800 so I could get a car I could trust. Freds lost its touch in about 2008.

We brought our van in to this scam artist last year to have our 60,000 mile service done. They quoted me one price on the phone then gave me another once the job was done. We paid it...not happy. We drove the van home and it was misfiring and surging down the road. We took it back to them and they said that a plug wire was pinched during the first repair. They wanted us to pay to have it replaced. We refused and they reluctantly said theyd fix it. We drove the car home after they fixed it and the owner, Fred Hobbes, called me at work the next day and told me that they did a full tune up on the van and I was supposed to come in and pay the bill. I refused of course. If this isnt enough......a year later, the van starts acting up again and we take it to a real repair shop and they tell us that whomever did the last tune up on the car unplugged some wires and put the wrong type of plugs in it causing a solenoid to short out. This was a $450 repair caused by Freds. We are taking them to small claims court.

My family, friends, and I have been going to Freds for years. The business is family owned and operated and I have never had any problem with any of the employees being unfriendly or ever felt overcharged. If Ive ever had a problem with the work done, Fred has been more than willing to work with me. Cars can be unpredictable and, especially on older model cars, having 1 thing replaced can result in something else going wrong. Anyone who knows anything about cars should realize this and just because it happened at Freds doesnt mean it was necessairly his fault!! I feel like Freds is the most honest place around town and will continue to recommend them!! They also have parrots in the office! Very entertaining! :) Hope to see you there!!

This auto shop has taken care of our familys cars for 20 years, first as Freds Auto Service and now as Automotive Engineering. They are honest, fair, and extremely knowledgeable. I have joked that I would give Fred a kidney if he needed it because they have done right by us for so many years. I have recommended them to people over the years and they are pleased too. Our daughters live in Atlanta and I am sure that there are more convenient auto shops but they come back to Freds/Automotive Engineering too. You cant go wrong here.

We have had our cars repaired here for 8+ years and would be reluctant to go anywhere else. They are completely upfront about what is needed and in my opinion their repair costs are very reasonable. We have never had any problems with their work, and have never experienced anything other than complete integrity. I highly recommend this business.

PUT MY CAR IN THEIR SHOP, ONLY ONE PROBLEM, WHEN THEY FINISHED THAT REPAIR, I HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM, THEN WHEN I PAID FOR THAT ONE, ANOTHER PROBLEM CAME UP, ONE AFTER ANOTHER. JUST STRANGE PROBLEMS KEEP COMING UP EVERY TIME THEY FIXED ONE. WILL NEVER USE AGAIN.
