THE BEST for people "new" to the whole gym scene looking to get in shape. I really shopped around - looked at LVAC, FFC East Lakeview, Ballys, XSport, and FFC Halstead. LVAC was way too expensive and you wont get any attention there. You have to be an expert and a millionaire to go to LVAC. Ballys was gross, XSport was PACKED with no room to even walk through and had very poor customer service, and FFC East Lakeview was super nice, but it was in a weird location and the layout was way off. It was poorly designed and just didnt work for me. FFC Halstead was the best in all categories. Customer Service is a top priority here. I feel they really care about my health. I had no idea what I was doing, which is why I joined this gym. They let me work out for free as a "guest" - NO STRINGS ATTACHED! This was big for me because so many other clubs advertised a "guest pass", but there were so many hoops to jump through. FFC Halstead even extended my guest pass to more than a week (for free) because I told them "i still wanted to do more research". Not a problem! "just let me add more days to your free pass!" AMAZING. After I decided to join, they took me to a personal trainer that best fit my "personality". My trainer took me through a full fitness "consultation", then a full "orientation", which is 1 free personal training session, then offered me 2 more free personal training sessions. The "2 free personal training sessions" was the deal the club was having if you joined in June. My trainer took all my vitals, blood pressure, body fat, measurements, and the whole 9-yards. We then discussed my history and goals, and then designed a workout just for me based on his expert opinion. Then he took me to certain machines and evaluated my strengths and weaknesses to tweak the designed routine. This was all during the "consultation". THEN my 3 free personal training sessions began. What a deal. The facilities are clean, too, and equipment is newer and in good shape, which goes a long way. I work out in the evenings after rush hour (or during) and it has never been full. Im glad I did my extensive research and chose FFC Halstead. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area. Trust me - I looked at everything for every club, and went with FFC Halstead for a reason. I was not referred by anyone. I am totally new to Chicago, so youre getting a 100% unbiased opinion.

FFC Halsted is in the heart of LAKEVIEW at Halsted and Belmont. Its location is one of the most convenient things for me as I can walk their from my apartment. Their is a neighborhood vibe with members and staff usually having friendly conversation. This is a place where you are going to get results, they sincerely pursue every member to help them reach their goals. I have worked with several PERSONAL TRAINERS who were experts in the field and made me confident I could get results. I also have tried the PILATES reformer, no its not a torture device, it actually shocked me how challenging and effective the various exercises were. I would recommend PERSONAL TRAINING or PILATES to anyone who is skeptical. Another huge benefit of FFC Halsted is that it seems to be always be clean, their are always towels, a locker comes with your membership, and they have all the amenities you need to get ready for work (hair spray, anti - antiperspirant, cue - tips, hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, body wash) Overall incredible place!

I joined this gym a little over a month ago and I love it. Great hours, great location, trainers are always available, and equipment is always available. I started off my introductory package with four pilates sessions with Zara. She has been awesome and has really motivated me to keep up with pilates. Running on a treadmill and using weights were really my go-to exercises, but she made pilates so much fun, and so beneficial. Shes positive, knows a lot about body alignment, and was really patient with me as I was getting back into the swing of things. If you do pilates, choose her! A 50 minute session with her is really a full workout. But she also is flexible, and if you spring something on her, like a knee pain from running, she will totally change the plan to help you get back on track. Love this gym!

This is one of the better gyms in the area, but you pay for it - about $80 a month. I primarily use the gym for weights and cardio - I do not take advantage of the myriad free classes they offer. The equipment is generally diverse, new and in very good condition. All of their cardio machines have their own integrated TVs, which I think is a big advantage over other local gyms. Also of worthy of note is the free 2 hour parking in the attached garage. The gym gives you complimentary towels as well, and has a smoothie and snack cafe open during peak times. FFC does get crowded at peak times - say 5PM or so on weekdays and 10AM-2PM on weekends, but I generally go during off peak. Even during peak times, you wont have to wait long. The members are friendly and courteous.

FFC Halsted isnt my main FFC location, but its so easy to get to from the Red Line, Clark St bus, Halsted Bus, and Belmont bus that I do stop in on the weekends. Its definitely one of the most convenient locations if youre northside resident. This location seems a bit smaller than others, and theres no pool access. Its still a great location for cardio and weights, and the weekend crowd is light, even in January. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and that seems to transfer over to the members as well. Everyone Ive interacted with has been courteous, and its great to be a member of a non-threatening gym. Overall, I think this is a great location, and the only reason it doesnt get a full five stars is that there is no pool (my preferred method for cardio).

The people are nice, it is rarely crowded, and I like that people workout hard there. Most of the people that workout there are really fit so it encourages you to work harder. Its not a gay gym as someone earlier claimed, but there are a lot of gay people that go there. After all, its in boystown.

Excellent health club with tons of amazing equipment. I must say that FFC does a really good job of staying on top of the latest exercise trends. I especially enjoy the Yoga and cardio kick boxing classes. Very nice.

Great gym. The options you have make the money worth it. My only complaint is they close earlier now and arent very accomodating to different schedules

Nice gym, has everything you need but the weight area gets pretty crowded. One of the older FFCs.
